SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — The number of San Diegans who spend at least 90 minutes on their daily commute grew nearly 15% over the last decade, according to a recent analysis.Apartment List reports as San Diego County's workforce grew 10.8% from 2009 to 2017, "super commuters" (commuting 90 minutes or more one way) grew 14.9%. Overall though, the share of San Diego's workforce who endure a super commute is only 0.1%.The study showed the trend is much worse in other California counties like San Francisco (110.4% growth since 2009) and Los Angeles (up 22.3% since 2009).Other areas of the state located just outside San Francisco also saw large increases, like Contra Costa and Alameda Counties, which saw a 101.8% and 126.5% increases in super commute workforce, respectively.Rural counties were also more likely to endure a long commute, like Mono County, Calif., which saw a 1166.7% increase."Beyond the super commuters who drive from distant exurbs to work in the downtown offices of pricey superstar cities, we also see high rates of super commuting in some counties that are much closer to the urban core," the study said. "This is evidence of the large number of super commuters who rely on public transit. Super commuting is also common in certain pockets of rural America, particularly those with active drilling and mining industries."Extraction and construction jobs were the most likely to have the longest commute times. Education, training, and library; and food preparation positions were the least likely to have the shortest daily commutes. 1561

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) – The owners of a Webster-area restaurant that has been broken into in recent days decided to set up their own overnight sting operation, and their plan led to two arrests. At around 2:30 a.m. Tuesday, the owners of Trevi Ristorante on 4703 Federal Blvd., put together their own stakeout and waited for anyone who would try to break into the business. The restaurant had been burglarized three times in the past week, including one incident in which a safe was taken. Jonathan Romero, the owners’s son, told ABC 10News, “We’re tired of it.”While the owner remained on the roof, his son waited across the street and a family friend watched from behind the eatery. After several hours, they noticed an SUV park in an alley behind the restaurant and two men get out of the vehicle. As the family observed the two people go through gates to the restaurant’s back doors, the owner’s son called 911.San Diego police officers arrived at the scene and took one of the would-be burglars into custody. However, the other man climbed up the side of the building and ran across the roof. After jumping from the roof down to the front parking lot, the man ran away as officers pursued him.The man was able to cross Federal Boulevard, but officers deployed a stun gun and subdued him.The stunned man was treated at the scene for his injuries and is expected to be OK. 1373

That’s a lot of mouths to feed when you may be in the dark.“Are we going to have to worry about evacuating?” said Joyce. “What’s going to happen to our animals? All that stuff you start to worry about.”He has a generator that will run the well and some lights, but it doesn’t power everything.“You can’t start the oven or you can’t start you range, you can’t have all the lights on,” said Joyce. That rage and oven are vital tools he needs to not only feed his family, but the 75 other people he’s making holiday dinners for.“Knowing the power would go out we had to start cooking at 5:00 this morning. I didn’t know if it was going to get shut down at 9 a.m. or what have you,” said Joyce. The chef and for Dinner Bell SD raised more than ,000 to helps those who would otherwise go hungry. Joyce selflessly taking on a big project while the threat of fire and no electricity still looms.“Starting tomorrow we’re delivering prime rib and ham dinners along with all the fixing and over 0 in gifts per family,” said Joyce. “Just normal people trying to get by, and have young kids, and just bummed they can’t have a Christmas.”Joyce says because he started early, he was able to get all of the cooking done while the power was still on.As of Wednesday night, about 400 customers in Campo, Descanso, and Potrero had been impacted by the safety shutoffs, according to SDG&E. 1769
