Volunteers at a Chicago food bank got a surprise treat for the holidays.Former President Barack Obama paid an unannounced visit Tuesday to the Greater Chicago Food Depository, where he helped bag potatoes for Thanksgiving meals.Wearing a Chicago White Sox hat, Obama arrived with bags of donated food and donned latex gloves to work side by side with volunteers at the nonprofit, which helps provide meals to more than 700 food pantries and shelters across Cook County, Illinois.The former President and longtime Chicago resident came with staffers from the Obama Foundation, which seeks to improve communities across the US through leadership training and other educational efforts."Hey, how's it going?" he asked volunteers as he walked in. WARNER SPRINGS, Calif. (KGTV) - Just ahead of Thanksgiving, a driver had a rare encounter with two wild turkeys on a highway in northeast San Diego County this week. Patrice Malloy was driving south on SR-79 to the community of Warner Springs Wednesday morning when she spotted the turkeys ahead of her on the road. “They were right in front of me; they wouldn’t move,” said Malloy. She slowed her Mini Cooper and honked, but that only attracted the birds’ attention. She grabbed her camera to get proof of the unusual confrontation. “There’s always wildlife,” Malloy said, noting this was her first experience with wild turkeys. “I’ve dodged quail…and there are coyotes.” Eventually, another car approached from behind, which drew the ire of the turkeys. Malloy used the opportunity to drive away, flashing her lights at other drivers to warn them about the wildlife hazard. "I found out very easily the way to anybody's heart is through baking!" said Terry Chamberlin. Chamberlin says she's lucky to be a grandmother to four."But then my son had an opportunity to move out of state, he took with him, against my will, three of my grandchildren!"She was scared to lose connection with her grandchildren, so she got creative.Chamberlin would send a box of homemade cookies with sides of frosting and sprinkles. Over Skype, she would decorate the cookies with her grandkids."It's so hard at Christmas time or their birthday to buy them a gift if you don't know them very well. So by staying connected by Skype, you get to see what they like and what shirts they're wearing and what their favorite color is," said Chamberlin.When friends started hearing about this, they wanted to do something similar with their loved ones.Chamberlin decided to start a business, called Gramma in a Box.For , you receive a themed box with three projects. Customers can get a monthly subscription or choose a plan that works best for them. The cookies come baked, and few household items are needed."The time you get to spend with your children or your grandchildren, or standing back and watching them be creative, that's worth more than a month to me."So far, she has about a hundred customers. Police are warning homeowners to be cautious about sharing the surveillance video publicly.Last week, a mystery woman was seen on camera ringing doorbells in a Texas neighborhood. The video was widely spread in hopes someone could identify the woman, who appeared to be distressed. It’s a type of situation police hope homeowners will first share the video with authorities before posting it on social media.  "What you posted on social media, that may well tell a thief, ‘Stay out of this neighborhood. I'm going to move on to another one,’” says Peter Henning, a law professor at Wayne State University Law School. “That could thwart an investigation."Another reason? You could be wrong.  "There's always that concern that might you be identifying someone who, in fact, has nothing to do with criminal activity," Henning says.And if the people in the video are in fact criminals, you could be putting yourself in danger by identifying yourself through posting on social media; It could make you a target for further attacks."If this were to be a dangerous criminal, someone who is prone to violence, it is better not to have ordinary individuals going out and dealing with them that could be disastrous," explains Henning.One of the most important reasons to share with police, before you go public, is they might have other information."The police are going to be aware of packages being taken from two blocks away that I may never have heard of," says Henning.Either way, Henning encourages people to think before they act, post or share.Being cautious can help you solve your case faster and with more effective outcome. 1911
