Kansas health officials confirm the death of a person in connection with an outbreak of a lung disease related to the use of e-cigarettes. It’s the sixth death reported nationwide that’s connected to vaping.Other deaths have been reported in California, Illinois, Indiana, Oregon and Minnesota. The U.S Food and Drug Administration is being urged to take action on vaping, especially when it comes to teen use.Phillip Furman knows the teen vaping epidemic first hand."I liked the cool feeling in my throat, and the feeling that it gave me,” he says. The 16-year-old teen is part of Parents Against Vaping E-cigarettes and testified before Congress this year. He claims he bought e-cigarettes on websites without age restrictions or in stores that didn't ask his age.“I realized it was hurting my body, and I couldn't play sports as well or just walk down the street as well,” he says. Now, former New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg is donating 0 million to stop teen vaping.“Unless we do something very rapidly, it threatens to erode decades of progress of reducing smoking amongst our kids,” says Matthew Myers, president of Tobacco Free Kids.Myers and Bloomberg want to get flavored e-cigarettes off the market."We know kids who start using e-cigarettes, who have never smoked before, are far more likely to become cigarette smokers,” Myers says. They're also want the FDA to take a closer look at vape products before they're sold.Last week, Michigan became the first state to ban flavored e-cigs. This summer, San Francisco became the first city to ban the sale of all e-cigarettes.But Boston University School of Public Health's Dr. Michael Siegel says a ban isn't the answer."We need to be encouraging adult smokers, if they are unable to quit, [to use] other methods to consider, using e-cigarettes as an alternative,” Dr. Siegel says. However, when it comes to flavored e-cigs, Myers says there's no evidence they can help smokers quit. 1952

It's been over four months since Hurricane Michael slammed into the Florida Panhandle, but driving around some parts of Panama City, many would think it had just been four days since the storm made landfall. Especially if you saw Shelly Summers' backyard, which is now a tent community of 24 displaced strangers. “And we have more coming,” says Summers. Summers has been helping those whose homes were destroyed. "That's just what you're supposed to do,” she says. “How can you go home and shut your door and know that there are people sleeping in the woods? How can you be OK with that? That's not right." The tents have power, heat and even mattresses. Summers and her husband even built an extra shower. Summers and her husband won’t accept payment. “She won’t take it!” says one tent occupant Brittany Pitts. Instead, residents have found small ways to show their gratitude, like carving a fairy house into what was Summers’ favorite tree before the storm. But Pitts still can't help but think that no one should be living like this, especially this long after the storm. She feels the rest of the country has forgotten the victims of Hurricane Michael."You really see just how much people don't care,” Pitts says. Summers agrees, "I feel like the day after, we were forgotten about. It doesn't make me mad. It makes me sad, because that's not how it should be." TJ Dargan with FEMA’s Hurricane Michael Response Team says if residents feel forgotten, it’s through no fault of FEMA, which to date has contributed 6 million in rental assistance. “Well, FEMA is certainly focused here,” Dargan says. “We have a lot of people, and we're pouring a lot of money into this community. So no, FEMA certainly hasn't forgotten about this. The federal government hasn't forgotten about this.” But the fact that Congress has yet to fund any emergency relief for Hurricane Michael frustrates local residents, as well as local politicians.Until there’s more help, Summers believes the tents in her backyard will be her new normal for years to come, but it’s a challenge she says she'll gladly accept. 2108

Law enforcement agencies conducting a drug raid in Southwestern Ohio last week seized enough fentanyl to kill the entire population of Ohio...several times over, authorities said.According to the Montogomery County Sheriff's Office, 20 kilograms (44 pounds) of suspected fentanyl with a street value of several million dollars was seized in a multi-agency raid conducted by the Montogomery County Sheriff's Office, Ohio Attorney General's Office, FBI, and Homeland Security Investigations.Authorities also seized 1,500 grams of suspected methamphetamine and 5,000 grams of suspected heroin. Three guns and more than ,000 in cash were also located.“20 kilograms of fentanyl is enough to kill the entire population of Ohio, many times over,” said Vance Callender, Homeland Security Investigations special agent in charge for Michigan and Ohio. “As this significant seizure makes clear, HSI and our partners are united in our resolve to protect our communities and our country from the deadly scourge of drug trafficking. We stand ready to use every tool and resource at our disposal to attack and dismantle these organizations from the low-level dealers to the source of supply with our law enforcement partners.”Shamar Davis, 31, Anthony Franklin, 20, and Grady Jackson, 37, are facing charges of possession with intent to distribute 400 or more grams of fentanyl as well as the charge of being a felon in possession of a firearm.“These illegal drugs ruin lives, destroy families, fuel violence, drives up property crime, and wrecks neighborhoods. Anyone associated with it—especially those who sell and traffic it—are doing violence to people and causing harm in our communities,” said Montgomery County Sheriff Rob Streck.Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost said the drug seizure shows the "enormity of the opioid problem" in Ohio. Yost said the sheer amount of drugs amounts to chemical warfare or a weapon of mass destruction."This is an enormous amount of deadly drugs that will no longer be on our streets," Yost said. This article was written by Drew Scofield for WEWS. 2085

Just an update to an earlier tweet about Stoops coming on at Florida State:I've heard the announcement could come as early as the end of this week. With keeping Briles on as OC, it could turn into a HCIW role. Stoops is 59, would want to groom a successor before he retires. 287
