ABU DHABI, Jan. 3 (Xinhua) -- More than 40 world leading renewable energy companies from China have confirmed their participation in the upcoming World Future Energy Summit (WFES) in Abu Dhabi, organizers said Sunday. The Chinese pavilion at the meeting, which is now in its third year and will be held in the capital of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on Jan. 18-21, has already grown to more than 1,000 square meters, ASDA'A Burson-Marsteller, a public relations consultancy, said in a press release. Leading companies and organizations from all across China, including Suntech Power, Yingli Green Energy Holding and China Sunergy, are expected to participate in the summit, the press release said. It noted that there is a particularly strong presence of companies from China's eastern province of Jiangsu, where solar power is a pillar of the local economy, saying approximately half of the Chinese firms participating are from the province. According to the press release, Shi Zhengrong, Suntech's chairman and CEO, will take part in a discussion on International Policy and Climate Change Action Plans during the summit. Suntech, a NYSE-listed company with a market capitalization of nearly 3 billion U.S. dollars, is the world's largest producer of crystalline silicon solar panels and has delivered solar energy products to more than 80 countries over the past eight years, it said. The China Greentech Report, recently issued by the China Greentech Initiative, a partnership of more than 80 of the world's leading companies and organizations, projects that the Chinese government's investment in its "greentech" industry will drive private sector investment, which could create a national market worth up to 1 trillion dollars annually. Such significant investment and government commitment have led to China playing a significant role in the exhibition at the WFES this year, the press release said. The WFES, a global platform for sustainable future energy solutions launched in 2008, gathers industrial leaders, investors, scientists, specialists, policymakers and researchers to discuss challenges of rising energy demand and actions to achieve a cleaner and more sustainable future for the world. Abu Dhabi, an emerging global hub for renewable energy, is the venue for the annual meeting, held along with the World Future Energy and Environment exhibitions. In June last year, the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) decided to base its headquarters in the UAE capital.
BEIJING, Oct. 31 (Xinhua) -- China's top legislature closed Saturday its five-day bimonthly meeting, adopted a law on diplomatic personnel and appointed a new minister of education. The legislation, aiming to enhance diplomatic personnel management, is the first of its kind to regulate Chinese government agents working in the 171 countries with which China has diplomatic ties. Top legislator Wu Bangguo said the law clarified diplomats' duties and obligations as well as titles and ranks, which was "conducive to the implementation of the country's independent foreign policy." Wu presided over the 11th meeting of the Standing Committee of the 11th National People's Congress (NPC), the top legislature. The session also deliberated a draft amendment to the Electoral Law, which was enacted in 1953. Lawmakers considered granting equal representation in people's congresses to rural and urban people. Wu Bangguo, chairman of the Standing Committee of China's National People's Congress (NPC), the country's top legislature, presides over the closing meeting of the 11th meeting of the 11th NPC Standing Committee, in Beijing, Oct. 31, 2009. Wu delivered a speech at the meetingThe draft amendment echoed Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee General Secretary Hu Jintao, who proposed in a report to the 17th CPC National Congress in October 2007 that rural and urban areas should have equal rights in election of lawmakers. Wu said the revision was in line with the spirit of the 17th Party congress and the conditions of the country's economic and social development. It ensured equal representation among people, regions and ethnic groups. He said the draft amendment to the Electoral Law would be submitted to a bimonthly session in December and a NPC plenary session in March next year for a second and third reading. Wu also reviewed the NPC's supervisory work this year, especially on the 4-trillion-yuan, two-year stimulus package announced by the central government last November to revive the economy during a global economic slowdown. The meeting also announced the appointment of two senior officials. Yuan Guiren, in replacement of Zhou Ji, was appointed minister of education. Li Xiaofeng was appointed chief procurator of the military procuratorate under the People's Liberation Army to replace Gao Laifu. At the session, lawmakers also ratified a bilateral treaty on civil and commercial judicial assistance with Brazil.

Zhou Yongkang, member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, meets with Seychellois Vice President Joseph Belmont in Victoria, capital of Seychelles, Nov. 20, 2009 During their meeting, Zhou said the CPC and the People's Party have maintained close and friendly cooperation since the two parties forged ties in 1979 and played positive roles in promoting the relations between the two countries and the friendship between the two peoples. Zhou Yongkang, member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, meets with Danny Faure, general secretary of the People's Party of the Seychelles, in Victoria, capital of Seychelles, Nov. 19, 2009. The CPC is willing to enhance exchanges and cooperation with the People's Party of the Seychelles to further strengthen the political basis of the bilateral relationship, said the senior CPC official. The CPC and the Chinese government are also willing to boost cooperation with African countries, including the Seychelles, in meeting the challenges of the international financial crisis, said Zhou. Faure said China has always treated the Seychelles, a small country, on an equal footing, adding that the two nations, the two peoples and the ruling parties of both countries have maintained friendly relations, which could be regarded as a model for relations between big and small countries. The People's Party hopes to promote exchanges with the CPC on the experience of governance, said Faure. When meeting with Vice President Joseph Belmont on Friday, Zhou said the relations between China and the Seychelles have witnessed a sustained healthy and steady development since the two countries established diplomatic ties 33 years ago. With the smooth implementation of China's eight measures regarding cooperation with Africa, proposed by Chinese President Hu Jintao in 2006, China and the Seychelles have seen increased exchanges of high-level visits, deepened traditional friendship and expanded cooperation, Zhou said. The Chinese government announced eight new measures to enhance cooperation with Africa earlier this month, and China is willing to jointly implement these measures with the Seychelles so as to bring more benefits to the Africans, including the Seychelles people, he said. The senior CPC official also expressed appreciation for the support of the People's Party and the Seychelles government on the Taiwan and human rights issues. Belmont said the Seychelles people have benefited extensively from China-Africa cooperation, adding that the Seychelles welcomed China's new measures on its cooperation with Africa and would implement them in a timely manner. While expressing the hope for enhanced cooperation in tourism, the Seychelles vice president also expected more investment from Chinese companies in the country's tourism sector. Zhou arrived here Thursday for a technical stopover after concluding visits to Sudan and South Africa.
BEIJING, Dec. 28 (Xinhua) -- China's anti-graft chief He Guoqiang on Monday called on the discipline inspection agencies dispatched by the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection to make due contributions to the fight against corruption. The agencies should strengthen the supervision over the leaders of relevant units, further investigate the cases of dereliction, bribery and abuse of power and focus on cases leading to mass incidents and other serious ones, He, head of the commission, said in a meeting in Beijing. The CCDI agencies played an important role in China's great achievement in fighting against corruption in 2009, said He, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee. Despite the achievements, the unified management of the CCDI agencies is a new thing that need to be improved in practice, he said, urging the agencies to explore new ways in curbing corruption. He also called on the government organs to support the work of the agencies and help to solve the discipline inspectors' difficulties in life and work.
