Are you stuck with a Toys 'R' Us gift card, and thinking it is worthless? Kmart announced on Tuesday an exchanged program for those with defunct Toys 'R' Us gift cards. Toys 'R' Us is in the midst of closing all of its stores, and liquidating products. Earlier in May, the retailer stopped accepting gift cards. Kmart said it will allow those with gift cards to Toys 'R' Us to exchange cards for  of FREECASH in points through the in-store exchange. The offer runs through the end of July. In order to take advantage of the offer, Kmart customers will need to join the Shop Your Way program. The offer is good even on expired gift cards. "Kmart has long been a family shopping destination for expecting and current parents," said Leena Munjal, chief digital officer for Sears Holdings Corporation. ANCHORAGE, Alaska – President Donald Trump is projected to win the state of Alaska, according to The Associated Press.Winning the state gives Trump three additional electoral votes, bringing him to a total of 217, still far behind Joe Biden.The AP still projects Biden will win the presidency, since he is on track to finish with at least 290 electoral votes. A candidate needs 270 to win.With the contest in Alaska called, the only two states that remain up in the air in the presidential race are Georgia and North Carolina, based on AP projections. Regardless of which way they sway, it likely won’t alter who takes the White House.Along with the presidency being called, the AP also projects that Alaska’s Republican senator, Dan Sullivan, will win reelection to the U.S. Senate.Sullivan's win brings to the GOP to 50 seats in the Senate, while the Democrats have 48. The Senate majority will all come down to who wins the two runoff races in Georgia. Residents in the state will vote on Jan. 5.Additionally, the AP projects Republican Don Young will win reelection to U.S. House in Alaska's at-large congressional district. 1136

Another Confederate statue came down on the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill campus this week.A crowd of nearly 250 protestors took down the statue known as Silent Sam on the eve of the new school year.According to a school website, the statue was built in 1913 and was put up to commemorate Confederate soldiers from the university, "who died for their beloved Southland" during the Civil War.The removal of the statue comes months after students and some faculty began calling for it to be taken down.As that played out in North Carolina, another monumental change occurred in Oklahoma, as the Tulsa Public Schools, after weeks of debate, voted to rename Robert E. Lee Elementary School.In the past three years, over 100 Confederate monuments have been removed. However, far more remain, and are still being cataloged.  They’re also not just in the south.According to a recent report by the Southern Poverty Law Center, more than 1,700 monuments and namesakes, commemorating the Confederacy remain."The SPLC, of course, does not support destruction of memorials,” says Lecia Brooks, with the SPLC. “We just believe they should be removed from public space to a place where they can be taught about in context-- to a museum, to an archive.”Brooks says the two events this week, both occurring at the very start of the school year, sends a message that the debate is far from over."College admins do themselves a disservice and underplay the students if they think that they’re just going to simply forget about these things at the end of the school year and come back and start a school year anew with the same monuments existing,” Brooks says. “I think it’s wonderful. An Arizona man is facing a second-degree murder charge after shooting his girlfriend in the face at his Mesa apartment on Sunday morning.According to police, around 8:30 a.m. officers responded to a report of an accidental shooting near Country Club Drive and Broadway Road.Responding officers found the woman with a gunshot wound to the eye. She was transported to the hospital and was pronounced dead, police said. During interviews with police, 22-year-old Martin Larney confirmed that his girlfriend had spent the previous night at the apartment, which he shares with his brother.Larney told police that as the victim was sitting on the floor changing her clothes, he tossed his handgun onto a couch in the room, causing it to go off and strike her.Police said Larney changed his story twice, initially reporting that he was trying to clear a round when the gun discharged, then finally admitting he was waving the gun at the victim because he "was upset at what she was wearing."According to police documents, Larney also admitted that he thought about shooting the victim as the gun went off, and had "thought about shooting the victim in the past."Larney has been booked on one count of second-degree murder.   1260

Around ten people are still missing after the blaze broke out on Sunday afternoon, when the mall was packed with shoppers and cinema goers. Ten others are in hospital, Vladimir Puchkov, the head of the Ministry of Emergency Situations told journalists Monday.Preliminary investigations point to the fire having broken out in the cinema hall area of the four-story Winter Cherry shopping mall in the center of Kemerovo.Early images from the scene showed thick black smoke pouring from the shopping center, a former sweet factory, as firefighters continued to battle the flames after dark.The shopping mall, which has an overall area of 23,000 square meters, opened in 2013. It has a parking lot for 250 cars, shops, a bowling, a children's center, a cinema, and a petting zoo, according to TASS.Earlier Petrenko said four people had been detained and questioned in relation to the fire according to Tass. Among those detained include "the tenant of the premises where the epicenter of the fire allegedly was," Petrenko said.Sputnik, the semi-official newspaper reported the head of the city's fire department Sergei Yakovlev as saying the blaze had spread via flammable thermal insulation, making it difficult to put out.It is not yet known how the inferno began.People were gathering at the scene Monday morning to lay flowers and toys, Sputnik reported.Russian officials say 20 psychologists are working with relatives of missing people.  1452
