I just need money for gas and food," said Alice.Alice told the man to keep the ring and then had her husband put in on a pump with their credit card."I believed their story ... I put myself in their shoes. I would be devastated, and I would want someone to help me," said Alice.Days later, she learned from her cousin in Los Angeles those strangers were scammers."I was the fourth person she knew of personally that this happened to. I was duped," Alice said.Then this past Wednesday, she was back at the gas station and filling up, when she saw something familiar. It was another new GMC Yukon.Inside was a different family. She saw them talking with a young man, before pulling out a ring."I ran over put my hand in front of the guy and said, 'You should be ashamed of yourself. This is a scam!" Alice said.She learned the family had a similar story about vacationing from Dubai. The SUV sped off."It makes me angry. It's the giving season and they take advantage of that. They're actors. They played their part perfectly. They're going to get an Oscars, and I handed them the award," said Alice.Alice believes both vehicles had out-of-state license plates. She says she contacted the sheriff's department but was told this incident would likely be defined as panhandling, which isn't a crime. 2115

(KGTV) - A North County school district said it was hacked last week, forcing them to shut down parts of their network during registration week.The San Dieguito Union High School District sent out an email to parents on Thursday alerting them to “an attempted malware attack” on August 9.While they called it “attempted,” Superintendent Robert Haley confirmed to 10News that district IT employees detected malware implanted in the district’s system. However, Haley assured parents that no data had been viewed or taken from their network.As of Thursday, the parent portal remained shut down, which is where parents were supposed to input information for the start of the school year.In the email to parents, Haley said the portal would remain unavailable through the weekend. ENFIELD, Ct. – An officer shot and killed a pit bull that police say violently attacked a woman in Connecticut on Tuesday.The Enfield Police Department says the officer was investigating a call at about 4:30 p.m. when he observed the large dog attack the woman.As the officer ran over, the dog continued to bite the woman’s foot, causing severe lacerations and tissue damage, the department said in a statement.Police say the dog’s owners were able to briefly stop the dog from attacking the woman by pouring hot water on it, but the animal then lunged toward to victim’s neck, bit her again and begun to pull her back into the front yard of the property from the sidewalk.The officer then “dispatched” the dog to avoid further injury to the woman, according to the department.The woman was treated by EMS personnel at the scene, but her current condition and the severity of her injuries are unknown at this time.In their statement, the department stressed that actions like killing the dog are taken only under extraordinary circumstances.“This outcome, while unfortunate, appears to have been unavoidable, in an effort to protect the female victim from any further harm or additional injury,” wrote police.A supervisory review of the incident is ongoing. 1265
