Monday to reconsider plans to lay off roughly 300 employees at the company's Chula Vista manufacturing plant as it looks toward shuttering the facility entirely.Reps. Juan Vargas, D-Chula Vista, and Scott Peters, D-San Diego, joined California Sens. Dianne Feinstein and Kamala Harris to push back against the layoffs. Vargas and Peters also requested that the company answer a list of questions about how UTC decided to shutter the plant and how involved the machinists union was in the discussion.UTC notified workers in July of the company's plan to close the factory by 2020."We understand that complex domestic and international markets factor into these difficult decisions; however, we note that UTC's company website says it creates products for one of the ‘fastest growing industries on the planet,"' Vargas and Peters said in a letter to UTC Aerospace Systems President David Gitlin. "This robust characterization of the industry seems to conflict with the decision to eliminate hundreds of production jobs."UTC's plant in Chula Vista has operated since 1940 and produces engine pods and mounts for aerospace companies like Boeing and Airbus. (KGTV) — The Port of San Diego and Regional Airport Authority have reached an agreement over a fee that threatened to delay the revitalization of Chula Vista's waterfront.The Airport Authority agreed to withdraw from a lawsuit challenging a .50 rental car fee added to car rentals at the San Diego International Airport to fund a parking garage for the Chula Vista Bayfront project.Under the settlement, the Port also agreed to a number of provisions, "that protect a number of Airport Authority interests."RELATED: Dispute over airport fee could delay Chula Vista Bayfront project“We have reached a resolution that addresses the funding mechanism for a parking facility that will serve the public for many years to come. CHULA VISTA, Calif. -- Owners of vacant or blighted property in Chula Vista will now be able to get a tax break in exchange for growing fruits and vegetables.The plan was approved Tuesday by the county Board of Supervisors. The city is covered by an Urban Agriculture Incentive Zone which allows owners of more than 170 qualifying properties to submit plans to turn the land into community gardens or other agricultural uses.The program, created by a 2014 law, would lower property taxes based on per-acre value of the irrigated farmland.City officials say the aim of the plan is to increase green spaces, build community and educate the public about fresh food production."It's a great way to utilize parcels that maybe haven't been developed to their full potential," Supervisor Greg Cox said. "I think that's something we ought to see, frankly, in the other 16 cities in San Diego County and the unincorporated area."San Diego became the county’s first city to adopt the program in 2018 with 2,000 properties eligible for the program.Property owners must now apply with the city. The city says properties must be at least 0.1 acres, but no more than three acres and the entire property must be dedicated to agricultural use.If approved, the property owner and city would enter into a five-year agreement. 1315

(KGTV) -- The Chula Vista Police Department is investigating a series of suspicious fires over the weekend.According to the department, the activity began on September 17, when a series of fires broke out in East Chula Vista. Crews were called to the fires beginning at 3:30 a.m.The department says four separate fires sparked within a 30-minute window on Lake Crest Drive, Eastlake Parkway, Telegraph Canyon Road, and East J Street.RELATED: Fire scorches Chula Vista playground overnightOn September 19, a fire erupted at a Veterans Park playground. Video from the scene showed the raging blaze and an explosion at the playground.
