CINCINNATI, Ohio — An Ohio man who falsely claimed in 2019 to be a long-missing boy received a mandatory two-year federal prison sentence on Tuesday after pleading guilty to aggravated identity theft.U.S. District Court Judge Michael Barrett gave Brian Rini, 25, credit for time served in jail, where Rini has been detained for nearly 21 months. That means Rini will be released from prison in about three and a half months.In April 2019, Rini told federal agents he was Timmothy Pitzen, an Aurora, Illinois, boy who disappeared at age 6 in 2011.Rini claimed he was also a sex trafficking victim who escaped from his captors.His lies prompted a massive federal, state and local investigation and raised the hopes of the Pitzen family, only to see them crushed again when the FBI soon exposed Rini's lie."I just want to say I'm sorry for what I've done and that I wish that I could just take it back," Rini said during a video hearing in Cincinnati. "I'm sorry for the family."Rini has twice before made bogus claims about being a juvenile sex trafficking victim and only admitted to the hoax this time after being confronted with the results of a DNA test, according to the FBI."He can't keep doing this. This is no way to live his own life and he really needs to think of the people that he hurts when he does this," said Assistant United States Attorney Kyle Healey, who prosecuted the case.Healey said Rini's lies prompted a major criminal investigation that pulled important law enforcement resources away from other cases, and caused "an enormous amount of unnecessary pain to the victim's family.""He needs to understand that when he tells lies like this it does cause damage. CORONADO, Calif. (KGTV) -- A man's peaceful visit to Coronado's Dog Beach turned into one of major concern when he saw boat debris lining the shore.Todd Tremelling feared the dogs and marine life would eat the materials. Tremelling was at Dog Beach over the weekend when he saw a boat stuck along the fence that separates the public part of the beach from Naval Air Station North Island.The boat is one of about a dozen abandoned boats that have washed ashore due to storms. On Saturday, he saw a crew from the base removing the boat with a backhoe."They were using the bucket to beat it into a million pieces, or probably 10 million," said Tremelling, who regularly takes his two dogs to the beach. When he returned on Sunday, he saw the shoreline was lined with boat debris, including wood paneling, fiber glass, and foam that lined the hull. Tremelling filled a bucket with the debris before an animal could eat it. "They need to do a better job," said Tremelling, of the removal. Sandy Duchac, a spokeswoman for Naval Air Station North Island, said crews follow strict procedures when removing the boats. "At the end of the day we do everything we can to remove the debris from the boats that people allow to come ashore," she said. "There's very little we can do about teh debris that ends up on the Coronado side."Duchac said the Navy has removed about a dozen boats that washed ashore after storms in the last year. It's almost impossible to identify the owners because the boats are often abandoned and the ownership information has been removed.It costs taxpayers about ,000 to remove each boat.  1646

CLEVELAND, Ohio -- After Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine tested positive for COVID-19 earlier on Thursday, he announced on Twitter later on Thursday that he, his wife Fran, and his staff all tested negative. DeWine took a rapid test for COVID-19 as part of the standard protocol to greet President Donald Trump on the tarmac at Burke Lakefront Airport in Cleveland. DeWine’s office said the governor had no symptoms at the time. On Thursday afternoon in a news conference from his house, DeWine said that other than a headache, he was feeling fine. Complaints about a gynecologist for students at the University of Southern California went back decades. His behavior included sexual and racial comments, accounts of improper touching during pelvic exams and saving photographs of patients' genitals.But the university didn't publicly acknowledge the history or reveal a report about the former physician's misconduct at the school's student health center until after it was contacted by the Los Angeles Times last week.On Tuesday, in advance of the newspaper's published investigation into the doctor's history, school university President C.L. Max Nikias released a letter to the USC community, apologizing and addressing the matter of Dr. George Tyndall, who resigned last summer."As the parent of two daughters who were undergraduates and graduate students at USC, I understand how vital it is for the university to do everything it can to care for the students who put their trust in us," Nikias wrote. "While we have no evidence of criminal conduct, we have no doubt that Dr. Tyndall's behavior was completely unacceptable. It was a clear violation of our Principles of Community, and a shameful betrayal of our values."Though Tyndall, 71, insisted in conversations with the Los Angeles Times that he'd "done nothing wrong," more than 20 former and current USC employees interviewed by the paper offered a different story. They included nurses and medical assistants who'd served as chaperones and been in the room while Tyndall did exams. A number of them called his behavior "creepy."They told the paper that he had young women lie on the table fully naked to look over their bodies. He commented on their "perky breasts" and complimented their "creamy," "beautiful" and "flawless" skin.He moved his fingers into and out of the students at the beginning of pelvic exams, when common practice is to insert a speculum."My, what a tight muscle you have," a chaperone remembered him saying time and time again to patients, according to the Times report. "You must be a runner."After telling students their hymens were still intact, he'd reportedly add, "Don't worry about it, your boyfriend's gonna love it."Patients, many of them Asian international students, stayed quiet, witnesses reported."Some of them had never had a gynecological exam before," one chaperone told the Times. "They are so innocent, a lot of them."The paper reported that Tyndall wanted details about a student's first sexual experience. He asked a patient whether he could keep her intrauterine device after he removed it. A box containing photographs of students' genitals, taken years earlier, was found in his office.He put away the camera after staff members complained in the 1990s and the health center's executive director at the time, Dr. Lawrence Neinstein, made him stop, a former nurse told the Times.A number of complaints filed in 2013 by chaperones prompted an investigation by the university's Office of Equity and Diversity, which monitors discrimination and sexual misconduct. The office interviewed seven employees and a patient, according to USC, the Los Angeles Times reported, before determining that there was "no violation of school policy."Files kept by Neinstein, who is now deceased but served as the center's director from 1995 to 2014, were reviewed during an investigation in 2016, the USC president said in his letter. In them were accounts in which students said Tyndall made them "uncomfortable," "gave me the skeevies" and was "unprofessional.""Several of the complaints were concerning enough that it is not clear today why the former health center director permitted Tyndall to remain in his position," Nikias said. "Rather than elevate these complaints for proper investigation," he said, Neinstein addressed the gynecologist's behavior independently.The 2016 investigation began after a "frustrated" nurse visited the campus crisis rape center to seek guidance, the Times reported. Tyndall was suspended with pay. In June 2017, with a separation agreement including severance pay, he agreed to retire.The university only filed a complaint with the Medical Board of California in March, after Tyndall wrote a letter requesting his reinstatement at USC."In hindsight, we should have made this report eight months earlier when he separated from the university," Nikias said in his letter.Carlos Villatoro, a spokesman for the medical board, could not comment on Tyndall's case, explaining that the investigation and complaint process is confidential."I can't confirm there's an investigation taking place, but I can tell you we're looking closely at this story," he said.In broad terms, though, Villatoro explained that if a complaint comes in, an expert reviewer in the same specialty is assigned to review the case, study medical records and issue an opinion. If further investigation is warranted, the complaint is passed along to an investigations team to conduct interviews with witnesses and more. If the evidence in a complaint grows, it then lands on the attorney general's desk. And if the attorney general determines it's appropriate, charging documents will be filed.Before Tyndall stopped responding to questions from the Los Angeles Times, he told the paper he planned to keep working into his 80s. He renewed his medical license in January."When I am on my deathbed," he told the paper, "I want to think there are thousands and thousands of Trojan women out there whose health I made a difference in."The phone number CNN found for Tyndall on Wednesday was disconnected, and an email seeking comment wasn't answered.USC is encouraging former students and community members to call a dedicated line with concerns and additional information about Tyndall's history at the school."We understand that any unacceptable behavior by a health professional is a profound breach of trust," Nikias said. (KGTV) -- One person has been injured after a school bus crash on Coronado Wednesday afternoon, police say. According to police, the crash happened on 9th Street and Orange Avenue just after 1:30 p.m.Police say the person injured was riding on the bus which belongs to Coronado Unified School District. The district later put out a statement saying, "no significant injuries" were reported.  436
