ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — A Florida woman was arrested on Sunday after police say she stripped naked and ran around at a public park because she believed a giant spider was on her and she had to get away from it. St. Petersburg Police arrested 40-year-old Danielle Teeples on Sunday at Bartlett Park around 2:15 p.m. Police say that Teeples was completely nude and that there were numerous people in the park at the time of the incident. Police say that traffic on 4th Street South was heavy at the time of the incident and that numerous vehicles were slowing and honking at Teeples as they saw her behavior. According to an arrest report, Teeples was "acting erratically and rubbing her hair and breasts while screaming and running between two trees."St. Pete Police say Teeples initially refused to get dressed after police contacted her. Post Miranda, police say that Teeples admitted to recently using drugs such as crack cocaine, spice and crystal meth. She also said that she believed a giant spider was on her and she had to get away from it.Teeples was arrested and charged with exposure of sexual organs.  1164

Snapchat as you know it may soon disappear.Snap, the parent company of Snapchat, said Tuesday that it is planning to redesign the messaging application to make it easier to use after facing several consecutive quarters of anemic user growth."One thing that we have heard over the years is that Snapchat is difficult to understand or hard to use, and our team has been working on responding to this feedback," Evan Spiegel, Snap's CEO, said in prepared remarks for an earnings call Tuesday.Spiegel added that the redesign could be "disruptive" to Snap's business in the short term. "We don't yet know how the behavior of our community will change when they begin to use our updated application," he said. The announcement came after yet another disappointing quarter for the newly public company.Snapchat added just 4.5 million new daily active users in the third quarter, bringing its total audience to 178 million daily users. Instagram Stories, a Snapchat knockoff product, recently hit 300 million daily users. The company's losses more than tripled from the previous year to 3 million in the third quarter, while its sales fell well short of Wall Street estimates.Even Snap's first foray into hardware appears to be a failure. The company took a nearly million writedown for excess inventory of Spectacles, its smart glasses.Snap stock plunged as much as 20% in after hours trading Tuesday following the earnings report. 1437

So much has changed from just one week before the COVID-19 pandemic and lockdown hit New York City.Though a lot has changed, the NYPD’s “Options” program still persists.“Options” bridges relationships between police and some of the city’s toughest neighborhoods. With a rise in shootings and violence, it is needed now more than ever.Just a few weeks before a worldwide pandemic and months before nationwide unrest over racial injustice and police brutality, there was NYC youth engaging in candid conversations with members of the NYPD.The program has been two years running and bridges the gap between the police and the city’s dynamic youth.“This is the new era of neighborhood policing, and we see that NYC has to open up a lot more and really start listening to the youth of tomorrow,” Det. Jason Anazagasty said.A virtual reality program was also created, scripted and voiced by “Options” teens. It includes real-life scenarios that play out through a virtual reality headset.Their choices on how to handle cyberbullying, violence on the streets and so much are on full display — as are the consequences of those choices.Det. Anazagasty helped create the program with the help of the Police Foundation and community schools and leaders. He said “Options” is breaking barriers, and most importantly it is working. While the ongoing pandemic has paused some planned expansions of the “Options” program to other parts of the country, Anazagasty said it will not stop in NYC and he hopes it will only grow. This story was first reported by Narmeen Choudhury at WPIX in New York City, New York. 1598

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell vowed on Tuesday that legislators would not go home for the holidays without an approval of a stimulus bill.“We're not leaving here without a COVID package. It's not gonna happen. We're gonna stay here until we get a COVID package. No matter how long it takes, we’ll be here,” McConnell said.Last week, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi made a similar proclamation. But both sides have been working on economic relief for months, but have failed to come to any sort of compromise. But a major sticking point is on whether companies should be protected from coronavirus-related lawsuits. The White House and McConnell have said companies need this protection in order to stay open amid the pandemic. Pelosi and Democrats are against the proposal, citing concerns that businesses will not follow public health guidelines.“This is protection for our small businesses, so that they're not held liable for COVID incidences through no fault of their own,” White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany said on Tuesday. ”And (Pelosi is) really playing up to the trial lawyers and opposing liability protection, which should be something that's just mere common sense.”Two weeks ago, a bipartisan group of legislators proposed a 0 billion stimulus plan that would extend funds for additional unemployment benefits for up to 18 weeks per worker. The legislation also would replenish funds for the Paycheck Protection Program, which helped companies affected by the pandemic make payroll. There would also be 0 billion earmarked for state and local governments, which have seen a drop in tax revenue due to the pandemic. There is in additional billion allocated toward the transportation industry, most notably for airlines, which have seen an over 50% reduction in business since March. But the bipartisan group’s newest proposal is to make the funding involving state and local governments a separate bill. It’s unclear, however, if that measure would gain enough support to pass, given McConnell’s and Trump’s past opposition to providing pandemic relief to state and local governments facing cuts amid a drop in tax revenue.Another area of contention is on whether Congress should provide Americans with a second round of stimulus checks. While the bipartisan proposal doesn’t call for checks, members of both parties have suggested that a final proposal should include stimulus checks. 2426

Someone is making death threats against a 10-year-old girl at her school in Framingham, Mass. The girl is a fifth grader at Hemenway Elementary and the two notes directed at her have now drawn the attention of Framingham Police. It was Friday morning when the Muslim youngster went to her classroom cubby and found a note calling her a “terrorist.”“She was visibly upset, she was crying,” her uncle Jamaal Siddiqui said. “That’s not what Islam teaches, and that’s not what Muslims are.”Her uncle says the principal visited each classroom urging the culprit to come forward with an apology and sent an email to parents condemning the incident.“Hate is not brought from birth, it is embedded into a human being either by parents or their surroundings,” Siddiqui said.On Tuesday morning, there was a second note, this time saying “I will kill you.”“Just the thought of that makes me feel sick to my stomach,” Siddiqui said. The principal quickly brought the superintendent and police onboard, but despite their safety concerns, the little girl’s family has not pulled her out of class.“If we take her out of school it’s just going to show that we can’t stand up to the situation,” Siddiqui said. The principal says many classmates have rallied around the student and some disgusted parents did the same.“It’s absolutely devastating and I don’t want this to happen in my child’s school at all,” one parent said.“It’s nuts basically,” another parent said. “Hard to believe this thing could happen.”So far, school officials and police have not been able to ID the handwriting or trace the notebook paper. Her family has urged the young victim to smile through it and not become bitter, but know that’s a tall order for a 10-year-old.“It’s sad, it’s sad that kids at such a young age have to deal with this,” Siddiqui said. The girl’s parents will meet with school officials and police Wednesday to discuss a safety plan going forward. The FBI announced Tuesday that hate crimes in this country are up 17 percent this year. 2017
