SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Southern California's theme parks are gearing up for holiday fun starting this month.Disneyland, California Adventure, Legoland, and more welcome in the holidays this month with several special events, parades, activities, and treats for guests to enjoy.Here's a look at what parks are planning this holiday season for guests and when the fun begins:Disneyland: The holidays return to Disneyland Park from Nov. 8 through Jan. 6, 2020, bringing fireworks, parades, and delicious treats to Anaheim. Disney characters create a magical winter wonderland during the "Believe ... in Holiday Magic" fireworks show and "A Christmas Fantasy" parade with Elsa, Mickey, Santa, and others. Guests can check out the park's 60-foot Christmas tree on Main Street, and Sleeping Beauty's Castle dressed for the holidays every day. Of course, the Haunted Mansion celebrates the holidays with Jack Skellington, and "it's a small world" will be dressed to impress in more than 50,000 lights. Guests will also find holiday treats throughout the park this season.California Adventure Park: Disney's Festival of Holidays runs Nov. 8 through Jan. 6, 2020, at California Adventure Park, bringing sunset concerts, festive foods, and craft stations to the park. The park's "Disney ?Viva Navidad! Street Party" ushers in the season with folklórico and samba dancers, and Cars Land zooms into the holidays with special decorations and Luigi's Joy to the Whirl and Mater's Jingle Jamboree attractions. Santa Claus will also be in town at Redwood Creek Challenge Trail, where guests can visit him. And every night, the "World of Color — Season of Light" light and laser show.Legoland California: Legoland's holiday fun runs Nov. 23 through Dec. 31, with cheer around every turn. Santa and toy soldiers will spread fun throughout the park with photo ops for children, and Fun Town will decorate a 30-foot Lego Christmas tree with more than 400 Lego ornaments. As the day closes, a Holiday Light Show will dazzle the skies over the park, and a life-size Lego Santa pulled in a sleigh by his trusted reindeer will give guests more photo fun with families. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Students and teachers from two classes at Sage Canyon School in Carmel Valley will have to return to online distance learning for two weeks after two people tested positive for COVID-19.In a statement to ABC 10News, Jenni Huh, the Del Mar Union School District Director of Student Services, said:“The District has confirmed two positive cases of COVID-19 at Sage Canyon School. All students and staff who were directly exposed have been contacted and will be quarantining for 14 days. The District has been in consultation with the San Diego County Department of Public Health.”Parent Amy Berkley said she was notified of the two positive cases on Sunday. She has two sons who attend the school and said her third-grader was in the same class as one of the people who tested positive.“They had two students in the school test positive, one was in first grade and the other in third grade,” Berkley said. “We got the notification on Sunday, and by Monday morning, all class materials were available for pickup, really easy and convenient.”While the positive cases are alarming for some parents, Berkley, who is also the PTA president, said she was pleased with how the situation was handled. Her son didn’t miss a school day as the classrooms impacted transitioned back to distance learning Monday.“We picked up a Chromebook, learning packet, homework worksheet, whiteboard all the material they’ll need; it was very well thought out.”According to the Del Mar Union School District’s safe reopening plan, if a student or teacher tests positive for COVID-19, the whole class will quarantine for 14 days, and learning will be offered remotely. Substitute teachers will also be trained to give online lessons if they do need to step in.The California Department of Public Health released guidelines and recommendations for schools reopening for in-person learning.According to the department, two-week closures will be put in place if at least 5 percent of the total number of teachers, students, or staff test positive in a classroom or school, or 25 percent of a district’s population tests positive. 2126

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — San Diego's LGBT community center, The Center, says it will not allow armed, uniformed officers at its facility or events.The announcement comes less than a week after San Diego Pride said it would not allow law enforcement to participate in the parade or events.The Center's Board of Directors voted that starting Tuesday, armed, uniformed law enforcement officers will not be allowed at the facility or future events unless its a last resort or true emergency, according to CEO Cara Dessert.RELATED: San Diego Pride: No law enforcement agency contingents in Parade, Festival"This is not about good or bad individual law enforcement officers, but rather a systemic problem in law enforcement that devalues Black lives and creates an environment in which our Black community does not feel welcomed, and in fact strikes fear and trauma," Dessert wrote, in part. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Standing outside his Vista headquarters on Wednesday, Republican Darrell Issa told reporters that he's comfortable he'll stay ahead of opponent Democrat Ammar Campa-Najjar in the run for a seat in California's 50th congressional district.“Statistically, it’s impossible for him to win with probably 60,000 votes left to come in,” he told reporters.Issa is a veteran politician looking to return to Congress after a two-year hiatus. He represented coastal North County's 49th district until 2018 but decided not to run for re-election as that district turned blue.“I've already spoken with Congressional leadership and I’m planning to go back to what will be a very unusual freshman orientation for someone with 18 years [of experience],” he added.ABC 10News spoke to Campa-Najjar on Tuesday after polls closed when early returns showed that he and Issa were still neck and neck. At the time he said, “Obviously, we know we've had a strong campaign that put people before politics and country before party and it is showing in this ruby red district. We're transcending partisanship.”The 31-year-old has continued trying to flip the historically red district which spans parts of East, North, and Riverside counties. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- SeaWorld San Diego is set to close Wednesday as another round of storms move through the county. According to a SeaWorld spokesperson, the park will be closed December 4 due to “forecasted inclement weather, including periods of significant rain and possible thunderstorms.”“The safety of our guests and employees is our top priority,” the park said in a statement. Rain is expected to become widespread by Wednesday morning with periods of heavy rain, possible thunderstorms, localized flooding and heavy rain, according to 10News Meteorologist Megan Parry. As a result of the rain, the National Weather Service issued a flash flood watch for Wednesday from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. for San Diego County’s coastal areas, valleys and mountains.
