(KGTV) -- Summer is nearly here, and the County is preparing for pests. On Wednesday, the first rounds of larvicide will be dropped on 48 rivers, streams ponds and waterways. In previous years, crews sprayed neighborhoods by hand to fight mosquito-borne illnesses like Zika and West Nile viruses. This year, the County will use a helicopter to drop the batches or solid, granular larvicide on the waterways that cannot be treated by hand.The drops will take place about once each month of mosquito season (April to October). Mosquito larvae that ingest the larvicide will be killed, but the larvicide is not harmful to people or pets. The list of waterways equals just over 1,000 acres from Chula Vista to Fallbrook and from Oceanside to Lakeside, according to the County News Center. Protect yourself from mosquitos 864

(KGTV) - Wait times at Southern California Department of Motor Vehicles offices have some drivers traveling hundreds of miles to avoid long lines.The DMV in the high desert town of Needles has some of the shortest lines in the state, KABC reported. When a news crew arrived at 10:30 a.m. Monday, there were only two people waiting in line."It's really nice. Not like back at home in L.A. County," one customer said to KABC.RELATED: New system and REAL ID to blame for long DMV linesAlthough the DMV's long lines are infamous, the situation worsened when the DMV started processing information for California’s REAL ID. The modified license will be required for travel in some states and access to secure federal facilities after October 1, 2020.A spokesperson for the DMV said the agency is monitoring wait times at all 172 field offices across the state."Generally speaking, the busiest offices tend to be the ones located in major metropolitan areas," spokesperson Jaime Garza said to KABC. Those without appointments had a wait of two hours and 20 minutes. San Ysidro, Poway, San Marcos and Chula Vista had the longest wait times. (KGTV) - Uber is expanding its role as a common ride-sharing platform into the healthcare sector in its release of "Uber Health," the company announced Thursday.Uber Health partners with healthcare organizations and is designed to provide rides for patients, caregivers, and staff. The primary aim is to serve patients, though, as access is available without a smartphone."Riders don’t need the Uber app, or even a smartphone, to get a ride with Uber Health because it’s all done through text message. (KGTV) -- Rideshare company Uber may temporarily put its operations in California on pause in light of its challenge of a state bill that reclassifies its drivers as employees.Earlier this week, a judge sided against Uber’s challenge to Assembly Bill 5. Under the bill, Uber will be forced to provide reclassified drivers with employee benefits such as health care and paid time off.Uber has previously said AB5, authored by San Diego-based state Assemblywoman Lorena Gonzalez, limits its drivers’ flexibility and puts a financial strain on the company.In an interview with MSNBC on Wednesday, Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi said the company’s fight against the bill may put its rideshare service in California on hold until November, when ballots come in on Proposition 22, a measure that would classify drivers as contractors.“If the court doesn’t reconsider, then in California, it’s hard to believe we’ll be able to switch our model to full-time employment quickly,” Khosrowshahi told MSNBC’s Stephanie Ruhle.Uber and fellow rideshare company Lyft both said they would appeal the judge’s ruling, which takes effect Aug. 20. 1131
