SAN DIEGO (KGTV) – Local community activists put together a report that shows what they’re calling the roadmap to racial inequality, basing it on housing data from the 1930s.On Thursday morning, members of the community used red paint to outline zoning lines of the streets of Kensington. The lines were a physical representation of what happened after the Great Depression under the order of President Franklin D. Roosevelt.Ricardo Flores, executive director of Local Initiatives Support Corporation, said, “The very benign use of zoning actually created segregation this day. It says if you can buy 7,000 square feet of land then you can live in this neighborhood.”Flores’ group and other organizations took to the streets to promote the data.“Today, in this day and age, you can ask a high school kid, ‘Where do black and brown people live?’ You ask any adult, ‘Where do black and brown people live? How do they know that? How is it so embedded in us?” said Flores. The activists hope to get support from San Diego officials and a promise in changing the way housing decisions are made.Flores said, “They should look at that parcel of land and allow them to be subdivided, sold, or build on it and rent it out.” 1221

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — It's time to put on your thinking cap and prove fact from fiction. The Fleet Science Center welcomes "MythBusters: The Explosive Exhibition" Feb. 24 through Sept. 3, bringing with it all the scientific chaos from the hit Discovery Channel show. The exhibition welcomes San Diegans into an interactive museum of props from the show, myths to bust or prove themselves, and more scientific fun to learn about in exciting ways.EXPLORING SAN DIEGO: More events to check out in San DiegoMythbusters hosts Brian Louden and Jon Lung, who have taken over for former leads Adam Savage and Jamie Hyneman, spoke with 10News about the new exhibit and what fans of the show — and science, in general — can expect."You finally get to be hands on. You get to be part of MythBusters," Louden said. "In MythBusters, you're always the third man in the room. Well now the room is here at the exhibit and you get to be apart of the show.""Everything you do has a story that comes with it and I think, in terms of retention and learning, it makes everything easier and more fun," Lung added.EXPLORING SAN DIEGO: San Diego restaurants on Yelp's 'Top 100' places to eat this yearVisitors to the exhibit will learn about everything from friction and flight to gravity and speed. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Members of a newly formed Guardian Angels chapter in Pacific Beach went on patrol for the first time Saturday night.Members of the Sacramento Chapter traveled to San Diego to train the new volunteers. Administrator Sarah Bonesteel joined after a neighborhood crime walk, saying "crime is getting out of control, we've lost our parks, and our library and things like that."RELATED: Guardian Angels look to start street patrols in Pacific BeachThe Guardian Angels are a national crime prevention nonprofit organization that started in New York in 1979. The group said it created chapters in over 130 cities in 13 countries. While the group has several programs to prevent crime, the most visible are its street patrols. The Pacific Beach Chapter hopes to provide a safe environment after the bars close.Guardian Angels patrol in groups of at least two while wearing red berets and uniforms, and say the patrols are meant to serve as a visual deterrent and aim to avoid violent confrontations.Angels on patrols are unarmed but trained in self-defense to protect themselves in case a situation becomes physical. They hope they do not have to use their training. The organization conducts background checks on new members to ensure everyone's safety. 1270

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — It's not the most family-friendly event in town, but it is one of San Diego's most time-honored bashes. The 66th Over-The-Line (OTL) World Championship returns to Fiesta Island Park for two weekends July 13 and 14, and July 20 and 21. The annual event, known for its color team names and characters, started locally in the 1950s and has since become a highlight of summertime in San Diego. What more can you ask for during the sweltering heat? Sunshine, brews, and a simple sport that everyone can follow. Well, it may not be that simple for newbies, but it's a quick lesson.RELATED: Ocean Beach summer tradition returns as 'David Buoy' is deployedHere's what to know:The batter and pitcher are on the same team. The batter's goal is to hit the ball into fair territory (over the line) without a fielder catching it. A hit includes any ball that lands in fair territory, if a fielder crosses over the line, or if a fielder drops the ball in fair or foul territory. If a batter connects with the ball but it does not cross the line, it can be saved and ruled a "no pitch" if the batter or pitcher are able to catch the ball before it hits the ground. Kind of like a redo pitch. An out is recorded when the ball fails to cross the line, a batter swings and misses, a fielder catches the ball in fair territory, a batter has two fouls, a player bats out of order, or if a pitcher or batter touch but do not catch a ball that falls short of the line.Nobody actually runs bases — at times, that's probably for the best — and three outs end each half of an inning just like baseball. To score:The third hit of a half-inning scores one run and each hit after that scores another run.A home run, which is when a ball lands past the last fielder without it being touched, scores a run and any hits before it. The hit count is then reset to zero.Anyone is free to spectate, but the Old Mission Beach Athletic Club (OMBAC) has a few guidelines. Participants and fans follow the "No Bs" of OTL, which include no bottles, no bowzers (dogs), no babies, and no battles (fighting.) RELATED: San Diego Airbnb experience transforms clients into mermaidsWhile the event is free, organizers warn that OTL is not the most appropriate and safe event for children due to crowds, language, booze, and the open sports setting. Before heading out, check traffic and weather conditions around the Mission Bay area. For more information on team registration, tickets, and parking visit the OMBAC website. 2497
