Her health continued to improve, she said."I was feeling okay,” she said. “I watched my little nephew, and then around March 1st and 2nd, I started getting a fever. I started getting a little short of breath."This time, those symptoms persisted, and she eventually asked her husband to take her to the emergency room the second week of March. She tested positive for COVID-19. Merck provided a copy of her county health department notification, which requested she not have contact with members of the public while she recovers."I don't know where I got that kind of virus. That's the hard thing is not knowing I could have picked it up from a patient and I could have picked it up from a surface,” she said. “It could have been at an airport, on a place or a bus. I have no idea where I got it and that's the scary thing. And you know, especially since I am hyper vigilant about it, making sure my hands are clean and that I do the right thing.”Merck said she agreed to talk publicly, because she wants others to know what to watch for. She says she also wants the public to know that most people will beat the virus. "I'm feeling a lot better. I'm feeling more energetic. I did a little yoga this morning. Diaz moved from Colombia, so she had been learning a new language while also finding a job. She's deaf, which made the transition that much more complicated, learning the signed and written words of her new community. "In the past, I really had a lot of struggles and I really had to open myself up to opportunities," Diaz signed.Diaz went through the Disability Services Hospitality Training Program with CareerSource in Palm Beach County. She learned hospitality skills while being given fair access to an interpreter in class. When she was first hired at the hotel, she was provided an interpreter for her training there. "My team members, when they found out I was deaf, they didn't really know how to handle it. They thought maybe it would be really hard to communicate," she signed. General Manager Sharon Ballard said Diaz quickly helped the coworkers adjust. "She's no different from anyone else, it's just the few alterations we have to communicate with her," Ballard said.Ballard said Diaz gave such excellent customer service, she was promoted to the position of a Starbucks Barista. "So she's working a bit one-on-one with the guests, and then hopefully we'll be able to get her at the front desk as well. To just move her up in her career," Ballard said.Hyatt Place Boca Raton has provided a machine that allows Diaz and other employees to basically "text" back and forth quickly on two computers facing each other. A suspect is in custody after he allegedly stabbed five people at a workplace in Tallahassee, Florida.The suspect, 41-year-old Antwann D. Brown, was arrested almost immediately after police arrived on the scene at Dyke Industries.Investigators say Brown is an employee of Dyke Industries. Police claim he clocked in at 8 a.m. local time. He quickly got into a verbal dispute and was asked to leave at 8:20.That when, according to police, he "spontaneously" stabbed a total of five employees with a folding knife.Tallahassee nterim Chief Steve Outlaw said that after Brown attacked, employees held Brown at bay by grabbing anything they could find in the office. When Brown ran away from the scene, arriving officers quickly apprehended him about a block away from Dyke Industries, 10 to 15 minutes after the first stabbing.Outlaw said it appeared Brown only sought out certain victims and had no pending employment issues at his job.
