It's recited in schools across the US every day by students standing stiffly with their hands over their hearts."I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the Republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all."The Pledge of Allegiance has been a part of American life since 1892, when it 377

It was a tumultuous weekend in aviation as three planes crashed, killing all aboard, in separate incidents in Ethiopia, Colombia and the United States. On Sunday, an Ethiopian Airlines plane crashed shortly after takeoff, killing all 157 people on board. Investigators have started their search into what caused the deadly incident. On Saturday, a plane went down in Colombia, killing at least 12 people. On Friday, a small plane plunged into a Florida lake, leaving five dead.In the United States, there were two separate, non-fatal incidents Saturday, including severe turbulence that injured dozens of people as their plane approached New York's JFK airport, and an emergency landing in Newark, New Jersey.Sunday, March 10 An Ethiopian Airlines flight crashed minutes after taking off from Addis Ababa. Flight ET302, which was heading from the Bole International Airport in the Ethiopian capital to Nairobi, Kenya, lost contact at 8:44 a.m. local time -- six minutes after taking off.The plane was a Boeing 737 MAX 8, which had been delivered to the airline in November."As it is a fresh incident, we have not been able to determine the cause. As I said, it is a brand new airplane with no technical remarks, flown by a senior pilot and there is no cause that we can attribute at this time," said Tewolde GebreMariam, Ethiopian Airlines CEO.He told reporters the pilot reported technical difficulties after takeoff and asked for clearance to return to Addis Ababa. He was given clearance to turn back, GebreMariam said, citing the air traffic controllers' record. It's the deadliest airplane crash since an Indonesian Lion Air jet crashed soon after takeoff from Jakarta in 2018 -- killing 189 people. That plane was also a Boeing 737 MAX 8.2nd disaster involving Boeing 737 MAX 8 in six monthsThere is no suggestion yet as to what caused the latest disaster, and no evidence that the two incidents are linked in causality.Saturday, March 9Colombia flight crashesA plane in Colombia crashed Saturday, killing at least 12 people, according to Colombia's Civil Defense. The flight took off from San Jose del Guaviare and was headed to Villavicencio, in Colombia, the Civil Defense said. The plane called in an emergency at 10:40 a.m. and was later found in La Bendición, near Villavicencio, officials said. The cause of the crash is unknown.Turbulence sends dozens to hospitalIn a non-fatal incident on Saturday, at least 30 people suffered minor injuries when a Turkish Airlines flight encountered severe turbulence before landing at New York's John F. Kennedy International Airport. The injured were taken to hospitals and their wounds consisted mostly of bumps, bruises and cuts, said Port Authority spokesman Steve Coleman. The Turkish Airlines Flight 001, which had departed from Istanbul, hit major turbulence about 45 minutes before landing at JFK, Coleman said. The plane, a Boeing 777, arrived at JFK at 5:35 p.m. ET.Emergency landingAn Air Transat flight made an emergency landing at Newark Liberty International Airport in New Jersey after reports of a possible fire in the cargo hold, according to the Federal Aviation Administration.Passengers on board the Boeing 737 had to evacuate onto the airport's runway using emergency slides, according to FAA spokeswoman Kathleen Bergen.Flight TS942 had been flying from Montreal to Fort Lauderdale, when the pilot around 8:20 a.m. Saturday requested an emergency landing, saying there was smoke in the aircraft. Two minor injuries were reported, but they were unrelated to the smoke, said Coleman, the Port Authority spokesman.Friday, March 8Five people died when a small airplane fell into a Florida lake Friday, according to the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office. Their bodies were found in the aircraft fuselage, according to the sheriff's office. The twin-engine Piper aircraft went down in Lake Okeechobee at approximately 3:30 p.m., while on approach to Pahokee Airport, according to the Federal Aviation Administration. The plane fell about 400 yards from shore and had departed from Tampa International Airport, the FAA said. The investigation will be handled by the FAA and National Transportation Safety Board. 4181

Immigrant rights advocates across the United States say they've seen few signs of the ICE raids that Trump administration officials had warned would begin Sunday.Does that mean officials changed their plans? Or is the operation still unfolding?A senior immigration official who has seen the operation plans told CNN the list of target cities and individuals remains the same. The official had not received any details about total arrests so far. Officials previously have said ICE agents in 10 cities would be seeking 2,000 undocumented immigrants who'd been ordered removed from the United States.A senior administration official told CNN that parts of the ICE deportation operation began on Saturday and would be expanded into other cities over the coming days."I wouldn't expect a big splash that matches the hysteria we've heard over the last several days," that official said.Such ICE operations are not unprecedented. But it's uncommon for officials to talk about them so extensively before they occur. Some advocates questioned whether the President and his administration had released details about raids simply as a scare tactic. Others cautioned that it's too soon to say."It's very quiet. Let's hope it stays that way," said Jose Mario Cabrera of the Coalition for Humane Immigrant Rights of Los Angeles, speaking to CNN Sunday afternoon.Jennaya Dunlap of the Inland Coalition for Immigrant Justice in Ontario, east of Los Angeles, also said she hadn't seen signs of sweeps."The way we see it with all the rumors and hysteria, we're telling the community that ICE is always conducting operations," she said Sunday. "This is nothing new. It's a daily reality for us. "2,000 undocumented immigrants in 10 citiesThere also haven't been any confirmed reports of migrants being apprehended in Baltimore, Chicago or New York, immigrant advocacy groups in those cities told CNN.Acting US Citizenship and Immigration Services chief says he does not know details of ICE raids"For the most part, it's quiet," said Cara Yi, a spokeswoman for the Illinois Coalition for Immigrant and Refugee Rights. "We've been dispatching rapid-response teams out to meet with people who have reported ICE activity over our hotline. None have been confirmed as of yet."Most of the reports were about sightings of government vehicles, Yi said, but advocates had confirmed they were not ICE."We don't have any information that the ICE raids actually occurred," New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo told WNYC. "If he does have ICE raids, our law enforcement will not cooperate with them. I don't put it past him to actually deport people to make a political point, which would be reprehensible, but I wouldn't put it past him. But we see no evidence of it thus far."The raids are slated for Atlanta, Baltimore, Chicago, Denver, Houston, Los Angeles, Miami, New York and San Francisco, officials have said. New Orleans is also on the list, but the city 2935

It’s a sound that will change your life.“It’s magic; it’s the first real sign sometimes that you’re actually pregnant, to hear that heart,” said Elizabeth Madrid, a physician assistant. She's helping a new mom listen to her baby’s heart. This mom is a student at Florence Crittenton High School in Denver, Colorado. And at this school, all the students are moms or expecting moms. Like Emily Castaneda.“I never thought that I would go to an all-girls school, so it was kind of weird at the beginning. But I was like, I can relate to all of them, so I like it now,” said Castaneda.Castaneda is getting ready to graduate in May. She has a 1-year-old son named Eliin. Normally, she’d have to find daycare for him if she wanted to go to high school. That’s if she could afford it. “I’m like literally so close to him. I can come check him anytime. I probably wouldn’t even finish high school to be honest,” said Castaneda. This high school has daycare on-site, so new moms like Emily can continue their education. And if they need to see doctor for anything that moms, their kids, or expecting moms might need, they don’t have to go far. “We do prenatal care, we do their physicals for the children, we offer mental health services, we do dental services, any sick visits. We try to make it as easy as possible,” said Linda Almanza, a medical assistant at the clinic. The clinic, in partnership with Denver Health, helped Rebecca Roldan get through a scary moment when her second daughter had respiratory syncytial virus, or RSV.“She almost passed... I was just scared, and like coming to the clinic, they helped me. Like you don’t have to be afraid, we’re here to help with whatever medical you need,” recalled Roldan.Roldan’s daughter was in the hospital for a while, but now she’s out and healthy. Not only is the school helping her with her daughter's health issues and finishing high school, but they’re helping her look to her future. She wants to be a mental health therapist.“I’m taking phlebotomy and medical office so it gets me like in the doorstep," she said. "I’m getting an internship. I don’t know where yet, but this summer I’ll be doing a medical internship."That’s high-level training for a high school student. But Florence Critterton provides what they call a MEDConnect program, courses and work-based learning experiences for students interested in a career in the healthcare or biomedical sciences field. There are a handful of schools that offer daycare across the country from LA to Maine, but the staff here thinks the on campus clinic makes it one of a kind. “This is the only Florence Critterton with a high school and a clinic attached, and a daycare,” said Almanza. While they think they’re unique, the people who work at Florence Critterton would love to see this type of school all over the country.“This could be a role model to a lot of places in America," said Almanza. "You know, teen moms is not a thing we choose, it’s something that happens sometimes. Instead of bashing it sometimes and making it something negative, let’s make it positive." 3084

Is Die Hard a Christmas movie? The world may never come to an agreement on this matter.Lead actor Bruce Willis attempted to put the argument to rest during his Comedy Central Roast earlier this year saying the film doesn't qualify. On Tuesday, film studio 20th Century Fox took to the other side of the argument with a newly recut trailer of the film, making a convincing case to all the naysayers."Facing Christmas 3,000 miles from his estranged wife and two children, New York policeman John McClane (Bruce Willis) flies to Los Angeles bearing presents and hoping to patch up his marriage. Stylish and cool Hans Gruber (Alan Rickman) is in Los Angeles as well for the holiday season, but he's not there to give out presents. He's there to take: more than 0 million in negotiable bearer bonds from the multinational Nakatomi Corporation, where McClane's wife Holly (Bonnie Bedelia) is an executive. When the takeover becomes hostile, it's up to John McClane to take on the terrorists with all the grit and determination he can muster--but not without a sense of humor," the trailer's description reads.Watch the trailer for Die Hard: The Greatest Christmas Story Ever Told below: 1194
