JAKARTA, Dec. 23 (Xinhua) -- Visiting Chinese Vice Premier Li Keqiang met with Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono Monday afternoon, calling on the two countries to step up partnership and tackle the international financial crisis.     Li said that the development of cooperation between China and Indonesia, both as important developing countries in the region, serves to the significant purpose to promote peace and stability in the region and the world. He told the entrepreneurs from 33 Indonesian provincial districts that the two-way trade is expected to exceed 30 billion U.S. dollars by the end of 2008, an objective previously set to be realized in 2010, and Chinese government is willing to make joint efforts with the Indonesian business community to expand the fields and promote the level of the bilateral cooperation.

Among the delegations were Japanese youth from various walks of life, including parliamentarians, government officials, businessmen and journalists.

BEIJING, Nov. 8 (Xinhua) -- China's first non-governmental community foundation, the Arcadia Public Welfare Foundation, was launched at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing on Saturday.     The foundation was established with 100 million yuan (about 14.65 million U.S. dollars) donated by Shenzhen Airtown (Eastern) Industrial Co. Ltd. and Shenzhen Arcadia Real Estate Group.     "In the past, it was largely the government that took care of China's communities, but now social groups are playing a vigorous part," said Wang Jinhua, an official in charge of community construction of the Ministry of Civil Affairs.     Arcadia, a residential community built on landfill in Shenzhen, the city that was China's window of reform and opening-up, has received domestic and overseas habitat awards since 2005.     Li Aijun, board chairman of the Shenzhen Arcadia Real Estate Group, said the foundation planned to provide financial aid for community welfare projects, such as senior citizens' housing, schools, recreation facilities and environmental protection teams.     The first project will help a local hospital improve community health care and provide free exams.

LIMA, Nov. 22 (Xinhua) -- Chinese President Hu Jintao said here Saturday that the central government would take effective measures to help Hong Kong to ward off the impact of the global financial crisis, safeguard the stability of financial markets and boost economic growth.     Hu made the remarks during a meeting with Donald Tsang, chief executive of the the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) of China.     Hu expressed his belief that as long as the HKSAR government and people from all circles could be united, the region would maintain its long-term prosperity and stability.     Donald Tsang briefed the president on his government's efforts in dealing with the current financial crisis and voiced his appreciation for the central government's support to Hong Kong. ADDIS ABABA, Nov. 8 (Xinhua) -- At the invitation of Ethiopian Federal Council Speaker Degefi Bula, Chinese top legislator Wu Bangguo on Saturday afternoon arrived here to begin an official visit to Ethiopia on the third leg of his five-nation Africa tour.     In a written statement released at the airport upon his arrival, Wu, chairman of the Standing Committee of China's National People's Congress, highlighted the rapid growth of the China-Ethiopia relations in the past 38 years since the two nations forged diplomatic relations, noting that the bilateral cooperation between the two nations have yielded remarkable achievements in fields such as economy and trade, culture, public health and tourism. It is the first visit to the AU headquarters by a Chinese top legislator.     Wu arrived here after he concluded his official visit to Algeria and Gabon. After Ethiopia, he will travel to Madagascar and Seychelles.
