CHANGCHUN, Nov. 13 (Xinhua) -- An infrared camera set up by the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) and forestry authorities in northeast China's Jilin province has captured images of a wild Siberian tiger in the Wanda Mountains.Zhu Jiang, head of the WWF Northeast China Program Office, said Saturday that the photos, taken earlier this month, are the first images of a wild Siberian tiger taken in the mountainous area.He said the evidence consolidates the mountains' role as an important habitat for the endangered species, and reinforces the need for local authorities to tighten protection measures, especially clearing animal traps and improving animal rescue efforts.The agency estimates that there are fewer than 20 wild Siberian tigers remaining in China. They live in mountains in the northeastern Heilongjiang and Jilin provinces.Zhu said animal traps still pose a major threat to the safety of wild Siberian tigers and their prey.A wild Siberian tiger was found dead with a trap around its neck in the city of Mishan, Heilongjiang, in October.A WWF survey found an average of 1.6 traps for every 10 km of distance covered in the Siberian tiger nature reserves in Heilongjiang and Jilin last winter."The WWF hopes to cooperate with local governments to protect Siberian tigers and restore their habitats," Zhu told Xinhua. Even so, a property tax is unlikely to be put into effect for Beijing, they said.This year, the average price of commercial housing units stopped rising in July and so far has been lowered by 6.3 percent below what it had been in the same period last year. Our specific goals for the purchase limits next year are still under discussion."Chen Baocun, deputy secretary-general of the National Real Estate Manager Alliance, said property developers will be able to cope with an extension of the limits."Developers didn't expect a sudden drop of the purchase restrictions next year," he said. "They are prepared to accept the policies for a longer time."In an attempt at tamping down property prices, the central government took time at the country's central economic work conference on Wednesday to encourage more cities to adopt a property tax. Britain opted out of the compact.Under the fiscal compact, member states will have to submit their draft budgetary plans to the European Commission, the EU's executive arm.As world's largest economy, the stable and healthy growth of the European Union and the Eurozone will be crucial to maintaining the momentum of recovery in the world economy, Liu said.China will maintain its support for EU integration, and continue to back the EU's efforts in combating the debt crisis in various ways, so as to jointly promote the stability of the international financial market and the recovery and growth of the world economy, he said."We are confident in Europe and the Eurozone, and believe that the EU has the ability and wisdom to resolve the sovereign debt crisis," Liu said.
