BONITA (KGTV) - A Bonita man is seeking the public's help to find the people responsible for ransacking his family home last Tuesday night.Michael Currier grew up on San Miguel Road in Bonita and once you understand his family's history it's easy to see why this home means so much.A couple doors down is where his mother and uncles were raised, at grandpa's house. His mother stayed close to care for grandma who had Alzheimer's and when the house went on the market, Currier and his wife pulled together what they could to keep it in the family.They bought the home in 2013 and have been renovating. He and his wife are now taking care of his mother, who also has Alzheimer's, so they weren't home last Tuesday night.Currier came home Wednesday and found it barren. All the construction tools in each room, gone. Incredibly rare parts he was using to build specialty motorcycles, gone too. Shelves full of black bins barren, with dust outlining where they sat for years."The parts that were stolen are irreplaceable. Those motorcycles, I'll never be able to work on again," Currier said.Currier worked as a contractor to pay for nursing school, and collected tools since he was 15. While he's glad no one was hurt from the break-in, what he lost was more than items on a list."Definitely makes you feel a little uncomfortable in your own house in your own neighborhood which is frustrating especially when you grew up in this area and this has always been a home, a safe place," he said.He filed a report with the San Diego County Sheriff's Office and they are looking into the incident.In the meantime, Currier's resorted to hanging signs, with a reward for information, around the neighborhood. 1726

(KGTV) — Big Bear's most popular bird is expecting another baby, as the area's nesting bald eagle laid her second egg last week.The female eagle has been nesting an egg since last Wednesday before a second one arrived last week, according to ABC-affiliate KABC.A camera installed by the group Friends of Big Bear Valley has kept interested bird watchers in the know: live streaming the eagle as it waits for its eggs to hatch.So when can viewers expect to see the new babies? BOONE COUNTY, Ind. -- New jailhouse pictures that appear to glorify and praise the man accused of murdering Boone County Sheriff's Deputy Jacob Pickett have appeared on the internet."Outright despicable. It makes me sick to my stomach that this can reach social media," said Boone County Sheriff Mike Nielsen.The pictures show 21-year-old Anthony Baumgardt and his fellow inmates laughing and posing."He's not only celebrating with people in jail. I don't know if he is celebrating the crime, but it doesn't seem to bother him. That is what hurts me the most. That is what hurts people who have seen this," said Sheriff Nielsen.One image even describes Baumgardt as a "Hoosier Hero"."I don't like hearing that. It makes me uncomfortable. Bright colors paint the streets and sides of buildings across America, as murals are created as a symbol of solidarity for the black community.But many of the murals already have scars, vandalized with tar, tire marks, and words of hate."No, not surprised. Racism is still prevalent in Santa Barbara, as it is in the entire land, unfortunately," said Ron Paris Green, a musician who lives in Santa Barbara, California. When a mural paying tribute to George Floyd went up in the downtown area, Green jokes that he thought he was in a different city. Santa Barbara has strict rules on what signs are allowed on buildings. The town has a uniform architecture of red tile roofs and white stucco walls. "To have a Black man on the side of a wall, which is supposed to be white, is not something a lot of people want to see, especially in Santa Barbara," said Bix Kaufman, owner of EOS Lounge. After the death of Floyd, Kaufman broke the city's longstanding tradition, inviting an artist to transform the white wall outside his club. The overwhelming white community has a Black population of less than 2 percent."This is, I think, one of the strongest statements in Santa Barbara right now, and it feels really good. And there's been so much positive feedback," said Kaufman. Green visits the mural twice a day now, "I'm very optimistic, yes, because of the young people stepping for the cause."He's been marching with young activists and hopes to send some to a massive march planned for this August in Washington D.C., led by Al Sharpton and Floyd's family. But we can start with having justice served," said Kaufman. But in the face of hate, artists and activists have grown more resilient.In Santa Barbara, the mural was not only repaired within hours but also granted permission by the city to stay up indefinitely, according to Kaufman. "We heard the word revolution during the 60s. this is a cultural revolution," said Stan Holder, a poet and activist. Holder has helped cover the Santa Barbara mural with stories of pain endured by generations."How many more innocent Black lives must be sacrificed for us to all realize we are all in this human race together?"
