SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Video captured shots ringing out, apparently pelting cars in a Rolando neighborhood, including the vehicles of a family already impacted by the pandemic.A shattered windshield is what Ondria Aviles found when she went to her Dodge Journey, parked outside her home along Marraco Drive on Monday night."Just couldn't believe that had happened," said Aviles.Her husband came out and found the driver side window of his truck - also parked on the street - was also shattered."My husband had a BB pellet hole in his window," said Aviles.Turns the moments their vehicles were vandalized were captured by neighbor Ryan Dick's surveillance camera. Just before 7:30 that night, a red sedan was recorded driving through when three shots rang out in a span of three seconds. The final two shots sounded near Aviles' vehicles.According to posts on the Nextdoor app, at least four other cars and homes were struck in a several-mile stretch. "Couldn't imagine if they missed and hit someone, a young child. We have three kids," said Aviles.Along with her outrage, there is frustration. The bill for the window damage will be a hardship. Because of the pandemic, she's been furloughed for several months. Her husband's work hours reduced."This is the worst time this could happen, in our current situation," said Aviles.That mystery car is believed to be a maroon Lexus IS. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — While San Diego has several desirable neighborhoods, Solana Beach may take the cake.That's according to a recent survey by financial website 24/7 Wall St., which named the coastal city one of the best places to live in America. Solana Beach ranked seventh on the list of 50 cities, based on its walkability, commute times, and attractions."Located less than 30 minutes from downtown San Diego, area residents have access to jobs and entertainment located in the major urban area," the website wrote. "The city is also home to one of only three train stations in San Diego County, providing commuters more options. For recreation, the city boasts 1.7 miles of beach, and a higher than average per capita concentration of restaurants, gyms, museums, and movie theaters."The website used data affordability, economy, quality of life, and community to develop its best cities list. Things like crime rates, number of restaurants, employment, income, taxes and home value, and health care statistics all factored into the site's analysis.Cities that made the list included:1. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) --  On Monday a settlement was reached in two cases against San Diego Sheriff's Deputy Richard Fischer. Those settlements come to a total of more than 0,000. 10News has been covering the story since November when a victim shared her story with Reporter Steve Fiorina. The Sheriff's Department opened an investigation into Fischer last fall after a woman claimed he groped her while responding to a service call.The investigation then expanded to more than a dozen incidents against Fischer dating back to 2015.RELATED: San Diego County sheriff's deputy accused of sexual misconduct pleads not guiltyThe 32-year-old deputy is on unpaid leave and out on bail pending criminal court cases. At his February arraignment in a Vista courtroom, Fischer pleaded not guilty to all charges. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - With the cost of living going up in San Diego, a lot of people are looking for ways to make extra cash. A new startup in San Diego called Bounce wants to help drivers maximize their income. "The drivers are the most important element," said CEO Mark Potter. Potter transformed the front of his law office into the startup space. He is a longtime fan of rideshare. "Before there was rideshare, I was hiring people off craigslist to give me rides," Potter said.His model for this new company is to focus on the driver and give them more incentives to want to stay and work for the company. "Our drivers are owners. They earn ownership in our company through stock options," said Potter. This stake in the company is one of the main reasons Pamela Bernier signed on to be a driver. Bernier said, "Working my own hours, calling my own shots, still enjoying the income and the people at the same time."Bounce also has a repeat customer option. Riders have the freedom to create a list and request their favorite drivers. They also have the luxury to arrange future rides in advance.  According to the company, this provides a safer environment for both the rider and driver and also gives the driver a more consistent cash flow. "I could bounce you here, I can bounce you there, I bounce you home, where you wanna bounce let's go," said Bernier. Uber and Lyft are two other companies dominating the rideshare space. According to Lyft, 68% of drivers are primary earners of their household, and so far in 2018, Lyft passengers also spent an additional million on local businesses in town. According to Uber, rideshare and delivery drivers in California took home more than .97 billion in gross revenue for 2017. Bounce is set for a September launch, and the company is currently interviewing drivers. They require in-person interviews and background checks for each driver. They are also in the process of putting in a panic button option in the app for riders to feel safer during their ride. "We envision is that our company will be very successful with loyal drivers that put Bounce first. San Diego (KGTV)- A local middle and high school team sweep a popular robotics competition beating out groups from all over the world.They call themselves “Team Inspiration.” The group of students has been working with robotics for nearly ten years.The team is comprised of six different schools in San Diego, including: Del Norte High, Scripps Ranch High, Rancho Bernardo High, Westview High, The Cambridge School, and Black Mountain Middle School.Last month the team competed in the 2020 International RoboSub Competition. Each team had to build an underwater robot.“The basic tasks include going underwater, seeing and recognizing images underwater, and going to wave points underwater,” says team member Colin Szeto.This Is the second year the group participated in the competition. Due to COVID-19, the competition was done virtually this time around.“It was a pretty good equalizer because we all got the same zoom playing field,” says Aditya Mavalankar.The student updated their robot design from last year and built an additional robot for the competition.“The idea was that both of them would go in the water together to distribute the tasks so that we could have more of an advantage,” says Ashiria Goel.The students also built the sensor navigation parts on the devices. It can “basically tell how far it is from other objects,” says Mavalankar. “We have cameras on multiple sides of the robots. We have hydrophones that’’s able to create an acoustic pinger in the pool.”Team Inspiration took home first place in the overall competition, technical design, and website. The team came in second place in the video presentation category.Team inspiration is the only middle and high school team to ever win the world title in RoboSub’s 23-year history. 1767
