Slowly but steadily, caravan migrants who trekked across Mexico are pleading their cases to US authorities on why they should be granted asylum.Nearly half of them have now been accepted to begin processing by US authorities at the border with Mexico, Alex Mensing -- whose group, Pueblo Sin Fronteras, organized the caravan -- said Wednesday.Caravan organizers said 49 Central American migrants began asylum processing on Wednesday, bringing the total of those accepted for processing to 74.On Tuesday, 17 Central American migrants were taken in by US Customs and Border Protection (CPB) for asylum processing, said Viridiana Vidal, whose group Pueblo Sin Fronteras organized the caravan.The group was predominately made up of mothers and their children.However, CPB says it processed 28 between Monday and Tuesday. Southwest Airlines says it has canceled roughly 1 per cent of its scheduled flights as it carries out inspections prompted by an engine failure that led to a passenger's death last week. About 40 flights were impacted.The affected Southwest Boeing 737 took off Tuesday morning from New York, headed for Dallas. About 20 minutes into the flight, at about 32,500 feet, a fan blade broke off the engine and shrapnel shattered a window.Jennifer Riordan, 43, and a mother of two, was almost sucked out of the broken window and pulled back inside by fellow passengers. (KGTV) — A local man is hoping for answers after his mother was found murdered during a girl's trip to Turks and Caicos.Marie Kuhnla, 62, set off on the trip to a Club Med resort with her two friends and fellow public defenders in New York.Rick Kuhnla Jr. told 10news his mother was excited about the trip and recalls pestering his her to take her sunscreen because she got sunburn on a previous trip.Her friends say a few days into their trip on October 14, Marie went to her room to take nap and wasn't heard from again.Her body was discovered in bushes on the edge of the resort days later. Police told her friends she had been strangled. It's difficult for her son to talk about the phone call he received about her death. 760
SOLANA BEACH, Calif. (KGTV) - Lifeguards in Solana Beach have taped off an area near Fletcher Cove after a series of small bluff collapses. Video of the crumbling cliff was captured on camera Sunday afternoon. Chunks of the sandstone tumbled about 75 feet down to the beach. No one was injured but signs were still up warning beachgoers to stay away from the unstable bluffs. 383
