Her plane was among the 40 or so stranded for more than an hour while a rogue airport employee flew a Horizon Airways plane in the skies above Seattle.Boiko-Weyrauch immediately fired up her cell phone and began tweeting. "I kick into news mode," she recalled. "I hear these things from the pilot. I'm trying to confirm them."She used Twitter and e-mail to try to learn more about the situation. The pilot came back on the plane's intercom, telling passengers the man delaying their flight learned how to fly on the internet. Somehow he managed not only to take off, but to fly past Mt. Rainier and the Olympic Mountains.She tweeted: Hey @AlaskaAir, can you confirm any of the reports we’re hearing and reading? A stolen Q-400? A suicidal pilot? F-15 escorts? A crash? Anything? About an hour and 15 minutes after the delay began, Boiko-Weyrauch read a tweet that said the plane had crashed and smoke was seen. Moments later, her pilot told passengers the delay was over.She set her phone to flight mode and waited three hours until the flight landed in San Diego to confirm the man who stole the plane crashed it and died.Boiko-Weyrauch laughed as she admitted she almost left her work cell phone behind, thinking she wouldn't need it during a weekend visit with her 93-year-old grandmother. New research released today from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety says that vehicular crashes have increased in states where recreational marijuana is legal.The nonprofit organization took crash data from four states where recreational pot is legal: Nevada, Oregon, Washington and Colorado.The findings revealed crashes were up as much as 6 percent, when compared with adjacent states that don't have legalized marijuana.Now, the research doesn't prove marijuana is directly responsible for the increase, but it does show a correlation. The organization’s president says we should all take these numbers as an early warning sign.“The real key is not so much the magnitude of the number as it is the direction we're seeing,” says David Harkey, president at Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. “And that we think this is a really good early indicator of the potential issues associated with this policy change of recreational use of marijuana.”There are still a lot of unknowns regarding marijuana in terms of how it affects the human body. For example, when someone is drunk, you can measure their blood alcohol content with a breathalyzer. NEW YORK (AP) — An annual tribute to John Lennon held in his adopted city of New York will go online like so many other events during the coronavirus pandemic. Organizers said there was no way they'd miss it, not on what would have been the former Beatle's 80th birthday and their 40th year of gathering to pay homage. The five-hour event will be streamed for free on Lennon's birthday, October 9, starting at 7 p.m. Eastern time on the LennonTribute.org website. “For 40 years, Theatre Within has remembered John with its heartfelt annual tribute, while having a powerful positive impact with its John Lennon Real Love Project music program for those impacted cancer," Yoko Ono said on the event's website.
