The elections board in Florida's Miami-Dade County has collected a set of mysterious ballots in the Opa-locka mail facility after Democrats raised concern about the uncounted votes.The uncounted ballots have emerged as one of many battles over the fiercely contested Florida elections that moved this weekend into a recount phase.Suzy Trutie, a spokesperson for the county's supervisor of elections, told CNN there were 266 ballots in the shipment and that the votes will not be counted. There are about 19.3 million continued claims or people still unemployed.With so many Americans looking for work right now, a lot of people are being targeted by scammers.“I was actually scammed myself,” said Amelia Brockman.In March, shortly after Brockman uploaded her profile to the gig site Upwork, she had her first experience with what’s known as an employment scam.“On Upwork, I was looking for work and a job I found would pay a lot of money for it,” said Brockman. “I was desperate because I didn’t want to go back to actual outside work.”This put her in a vulnerable place, where she ignored some warning signs.“I got the job. It seemed legit,” she said. “Then, he started asking if I am going to pay you, I need you to go buy Google cards. Something about how he needed to put me in the system.”She never got paid, in fact, she lost roughly ,000 in Google card purchases.“People are heartless at this point. A newly released report by the BBB, shows 53% of the people targeted by employment scams are unemployed and roughly 75% of the people actually scammed are in a personal financial crisis.To avoid being a victim of an employment scam yourself, the BBB says there are a few things you can do. They include noticing if a job posting has grammatical errors or misspellings. If it does, it is usually a scam.The BBB says you should remember that you should never have to pay to get a job or have to provide you credit card and bank account information. Legitimate employers provide a paper check option.Lastly, try to research the company or employer to see if they have had complaints.If you come across a posting that you suspect is a scam or get scammed, report it.“You should go report it, because I did not report mine until months later to the point where another state called me and you don’t want to be scammed the same way,” said Brockman. 2613

The Cheektowaga, New York mother whose battle with breast cancer captured the hearts of many Western New Yorkers has died. Libby Gaymon, 43, passed away Tuesday. She had faced breast cancer twice in less than two years.In May, Libby's daughter Alexis asked her mom to be her date to the senior prom at McKinley High School in Buffalo. The surprise promposal was a well-coordinated effort between Alexis, her family and McKinley administrators. Alexis wanted to bring her mother because Libby didn't get to go to the prom when she was in school.On prom night, dozens of supporters of Libby packed the Gaymons' front lawn, some spilling onto the sidewalk and neighboring lawns to cheer on the mother-daughter duo.McKinley High School donated a limousine, while other community members offered free wig services, makeup application and corsage supply to make the night even more special.Most recently, Gaymon tried an experimental immunotherapy treatment at Roswell Park. Immunotherapy helps the body’s immune system attack cancer cells. The CDC is recommending restaurants, cafes and places where people eat and drink, and likely are not wearing a mask while they do so, should consider all efforts to limit possible COVID-19 exposure and community spread, following the publication of a study looking at where coronavirus patients visited.Adults in the study with positive COVID-19 test results were "twice as likely to have reported dining at a restaurant than those with negative test results", according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.The study looked at people who had coronavirus symptoms and sought testing and care from 11 health care facilities around the country. It found two situations were connected to a higher rate of positive COVID-19 test results compared to negative results; going to locations offering on-site eating and drinking options, and having close contact with persons known to have COVID-19.“Exposures and activities where mask use and social distancing are difficult to maintain, including going to places that offer on-site eating or drinking, might be important risk factors for acquiring COVID-19. As communities reopen, efforts to reduce possible exposures at locations that offer on-site eating and drinking options should be considered to protect customers, employees, and communities,” the study states.CDC personnel conducted interviews with more than 300 study participants, asking them about their mask-wearing habits, attending community gatherings, and activities in the last two weeks; including going to an office, salon, gym, bar/coffee shop, church, eating at a restaurant, or using public transportation. Participants answered using a five-point scale to indicate how often they did these activities.“Reports of exposures in restaurants have been linked to air circulation. Direction, ventilation, and intensity of airflow might affect virus transmission, even if social distancing measures and mask use are implemented according to current guidance. Masks cannot be effectively worn while eating and drinking, whereas shopping and numerous other indoor activities do not preclude mask use,” the report says.The responses indicated around 42 percent of those who had positive COVID-19 test results had close contact with one or more people with known positive cases. The majority of those “close contacts” were family members. Only 14 percent of those who had symptoms but had negative COVID-19 test results reported having close contact with a person known to have the virus.The CDC recommends that if a family member or member of a household becomes sick and it is possibly COVID-19, additional prevention measures should be taken. This includes isolating the sick person as much as possible in the home, reducing shared meals and common spaces, wearing gloves and masks inside the home, and cleaning and disinfecting the home often.The study was completed during July and the results were released September 10. 2952
