SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A 12-year-old girl riding a skateboard down a City Heights hill was seriously injured Wednesday when she crashed into the back of a minivan, San Diego police said.According to police, the crash happened just before 5:30 pm. at the intersection of Estrella and Polk avenues.Police said a Toyota Sienna was traveling northbound in the 4000 block of Estrella Avenue when it entered the intersection. The skateboarder going downhill on eastbound Polk Avenue “failed to stop” at the intersection and collided with the minivan’s left rear bumper cover.The girl sustained major injuries, including a fractured skull and brain bleed, according to police. She was rushed to Rady Children’s Hospital for treatment; her condition is unknown. 758

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A driver crashed his Mercedes-Benz through an underground parking garage gate, causing the gate to fall onto his car and leaving the vehicle -- and himself -- trapped at the entrance.The incident was reported at around 2:30 a.m. Tuesday at an apartment complex in the 4300 block of Menlo Avenue, according to San Diego police.With the large gate on top of the car, responding officers helped the driver out of his vehicle.ABC 10News learned the man was treated by medics at the scene but was also being evaluated for possible DUI. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) – A 79-year-old man was found dead about six miles from the Lake Morena Campground, one day after his family reported him missing.According to San Diego County sheriff’s officials, the man was reported missing on Tuesday, Sept. 1, after his family did not hear from him during the previous four days.Officials said the man was described as an avid hiker and was staying at the campground.On Wednesday, sheriff’s Search & Rescue teams spotted a body matching the missing hiker’s description about six miles from the campground.Officials said the county Medical Examiner’s Office will perform an autopsy to positively identify the body and determine the cause of death. 696

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A fire erupted in the yard of a Skyline-area home and spread to nearby brush before crews successfully put it out.The fire was reported shortly before 1 p.m. Wednesday at a home in the 7000 block of Tuther Way, near Skyline Drive.The fire is believed to have started in the shed or another location in the home's backyard before it spread to a fence and brush directly behind it.The fire also made its way to the house, damaging parts of the home's roof.
