TOKYO, May 31 (Xinhua) -- Visiting Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao called on Japanese entrepreneurs Monday to make further contributions to the cooperation between the two countries.Addressing a welcome luncheon given in his honor by the Japanese Business Federation, the Chinese premier briefed the participants on what the Chinese government has achieved in tackling the global financial turmoil, as well as China's current economic situation and its major tasks.Wen said great progress has been made in bilateral economic and trade relations since the normalization of diplomatic ties between the two countries in 1972. HONG KONG, April 16 (Xinhua) -- A volunteer from Hong Kong who lost his life on Wednesday when rescuing others in the earthquake- hit Qinghai province of China, has been recommended for a gold medal for bravery at home, local authority said on Friday.Wong Fu-wing, a 46-year-old volunteer, escaped from the earthquake on Wednesday morning but returned to rescue the trapped orphans and teachers in the orphanage where he worked in Yushu county of Qinghai province. He was critically injured by falling debris in a powerful aftershock.Tsang Tak-sing, Secretary for Home Affairs Bureau of Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) government, said on Friday that Wong has been recommended for the Medal for Bravery of Hong Kong.The Medal for Bravery (Gold), created in 1997, is the first rank in the Order of the Medal for Bravery, awarded for acts of gallantry of the greatest possible heroism or of the most conspicuous courage in circumstances of extreme danger.Chief Secretary Hengry Tang Ying-yen said Thursday that Wong's selfless sacrifice deserved the highest respect and expressed condolences to his family.Wong's family members departed from Hong Kong to the disaster zone of Qinghai province on Thursday to collect his remains. An officer from Hong Kong's Beijing Office was heading to Qinghai on Friday to meet Wong's family and assist local authorities. The Immigration Department of Hong Kong has offered help to the deceased's family members in Hong Kong.The death toll climbed to 1,144 and another 417 people remained missing as of 5 p.m. Friday, after a devastating earthquake shook a Tibetan area in northwest China's Qinghai Province.The 7.1-magnitude earthquake, which shook the Yushu County in the Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture of Yushu at 7:49 a.m. Wednesday, has left 11,744 people injured, including 1,192 serious cases.

PYONGYANG, May 9 (Xinhua) -- The Rodong Sinmun, a leading newspaper of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK), hailed the recent successful visit to China by top leader Kim Jong Il in an editorial published Sunday.The editorial said that the people of the DPRK are "very glad and excited" about the visit. It is a "meaningful opportunity" to strengthen the friendship between the two parties and the leaders of the two countries.The article also indicated that the DPRK will make efforts to further strengthen the traditional DPRK-China friendship.Both countries shared the view that peace, stability and prosperity of the Korean Peninsula are in the common interests of the two countries and other Northeastern Asian nations, the editorial said.The two sides will make joint efforts to achieve the objective of denuclearizing the Peninsula on the basis of the Sept. 19 Joint Statement, it added.The editorial also said that the people of the DPRK sincerely wish the Chinese people still greater achievements in their socialist construction and the cause for national reunification.Kim Jong Il made an unofficial visit to China from May 3 to 7. He has visited China for five times since 2000.

CHICAGO, April 21 (Xinhua) -- The Chicago-based Boeing Company reported on Wednesday that its first-quarter net earnings were 519 million U.S. dollars, down 15 percent from 610 million dollars in the same quarter last year, citing the health care legislation charge.The aerospace and defense giant said in its first quarterly financial report that total revenues for the first three months were 15.22 billion dollars, down from 16.50 billion dollars in the prior year quarter while the earnings per share was down to 70 cents from 86 cents one year ago.Boeing indicated that the results for the quarter reflect solid performance across core businesses and a previously disclosed 20 cents charge per share on health care legislation, while the year- ago quarter results were reduced by 31 cents per share on a charge due to poor market conditions in commercial airplanes."With clear progress on the 787 and 747-8, solid financial performance and marked improvement in our customer outlook, we continue to draw on the positive momentum we saw at the end of 2009," said Jim McNerney, Boeing chairman, president and chief executive officer.Boeing's earnings guidance for 2010 is pegged at 3.50 dollars to 3.80 dollars per share, reduced from 3.70 to 4.00 per share due to the charge on health care legislation. At the same time, the company continues to expect that 2011 revenue will be higher than 2010, primarily driven by projected 787 and 747-8 deliveries."Our outlook remains attractive, and we are focused on executing well and delivering on our commitments to customers," said McNerney.The report also indicated that the 787 program continued flight testing during the quarter, as an additional two airplanes joined the two airplanes already in the flight test program.The Dreamliner completed key flight test milestones such as flutter, stall and ground-effect tests. On March 28, the static test unit successfully completed the ultimate load test with a fully pressurized cabin.The 787's first delivery is expected in the fourth quarter of 2010. Total firm orders for the 787 at quarter-end were 866 airplanes from 57 customers.

BRISBANE, Australia, April 4 (Xinhua) -- All the crew members are safe after a Chinese coal ship ran aground off the eastern coast of Australia on Saturday, said Chinese Consul-general in Brisbane Ren Gongping on Sunday.Ren told Xinhua that the 230-meter-long bulk coal carrier Shen Neng 1 ran aground about 70 km east of Great Keppel Island in Queensland State shortly after 5 p.m. on Saturday.The vessel, carrying 950 tons of heavy fuel oil and 65,000 tons of coal, is bound for China.Ren said he had phoned the captain of the carrier, Wang Jichang, who told Ren that drinking water and food are enough for the 23 crew members. The incident caused no injuries to the crew.The consul-general said the captain told him the incident is not serious and repair is underway.Ren added that he was very much concerned about the safety of the Chinese crew and he had contacted the local police immediately after learning the incident. The police had assured Ren that they would try their best to safeguard the crew in case of an emergency.Three police ships have reached the area and are ready to take the crew to safe place from the coal carrier.
