President Trump's Treasury secretary says most middle income Americans will get a tax break under the Republican plan brewing in Congress.But he stopped short of saying that break would be for all of them."By simplifying the code, we're putting everybody on a level playing field," Steven Mnuchin told CNN's Jake Tapper on "State of the Union" on Sunday. "For most people -- and, again, it may not be 100 percent, but by far the majority -- both the House and Senate version provide middle-income tax relief."Mnuchin said that assessment is based on "hundreds if not thousands" of tests the Treasury has run on the bills.Mnuchin's comments came after Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell walked back his claim?that "nobody in the middle class is going to get a tax increase" under the Senate's version of the reform plan.On Friday, McConnell told the New York Times that he "misspoke."Mnuchin also defended the tax plan from critics, including Larry Summers, the Treasury secretary under President Bill Clinton. President Donald Trump visited California on Monday to receive an update on the dozens of wildfires that are currently raging across the Western United States.During a visit to McClellan Park, California on Monday, Trump received a briefing from local officials on the status of the fires that have killed 33 people in three states dating back to mid-August.The president then spoke at a ceremony recognizing the California National Guard, which has hundreds of members helping to battle the fires. RAMONA, Calif. (KGTV) – It was a nightly ritual. Steve Faught would put his dog, Riley, in his old Ford pickup and take him to a nearby baseball field to play fetch.  On his way Thursday night, he stopped by Stage Stop Liquor and Gas to pick up a six-pack of beer. But he never made it to the field. Faught was found at the gas station with a major injury to his neck, according to the San Diego Sheriff’s Department. He was airlifted to a hospital for surgery but did not survive. His older brother, Jerry Faught, described him as funny, with a warm personality. “To him, life was a good place,” he said. “He was just the kind of person you’d like to know.” Faught heard the news from Steve’s wife, who called him at his home in Portland. His older brother instincts kicked in. “I couldn’t help him. I couldn’t save him. That’s hard,” he said. Homicide detectives are trying to piece together what happened and what led up to the altercation, but as of Friday morning they had not been able to locate any witnesses or surveillance video. The suspect, 26-year old Jarrett Wishnick, has been arrested for murder. 1169

REDWOOD CITY, Calif. (KGTV) -- A sea lion is resting after being rescued from a parking structure in Redwood Monday. According to the Redwood City Fire Department, the sea lion was rescued from a parking structure. The 5-month-old pup, named Santos by the department, made it back to the fire station where he posed for pictures before taking a nap. President Donald Trump tweeted a photo on Wednesday of rockets that were aimed at the US Embassy in Baghdad, and claimed that the rockets were fired by Iran.The attack came on Sunday, embassy officials confirmed. Trump said that three of the rockets failed to launch.The embassy said that there was minor damage to the compound, but no injuries.
