SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — USO San Diego's annual "Santa Store" event kicks off with a special event Tuesday night at their downtown office.The event allows children of military service members to pick a free present they can give their parents as a holiday gift."It just helps give a little more holiday cheer for our service members who do so much to keep us safe and secure at home," USO San Diego CEO Lorin Stewart told 10News.Volunteers collected and wrapped thousands of presents, including watches, tool kits, headphones, makeup kits, and handbags. The parents stay outside the Santa while USO San Diego volunteers help the children select the right gift. "They love being able to talk about what mom and dad are into and what they like, and then have that surprise under the tree," said military spouse Ashley Camak, who organizes the annual event. "Just makes it a magical moment for them."The evening also includes a meal, play area, and chance to take a picture with Santa. The "Santa Store" will be open December 4-6 from 5-8pm. 1040

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) – With Thanksgiving just days away, local health officials are seeing long lines at San Diego County COVID-19 test sites with many San Diegans hoping to get tested before the holiday.With the sudden surge of testing, some experts, such as UC San Diego Chief of Infectious Diseases Dr. Davey Smith, warn that getting a test is not enough to minimize the risk of spreading the coronavirus.“There’s a worrisome reason that people are planning to go visit their older relatives and they think they’re going to be 100 percent safe,” Smith said.Smith also said getting a test now could still give out a false negative result.“If I get tested now, it doesn't mean that I'm not infected, it just means that I'm not actively shedding the virus,” Smith told ABC 10News.On Monday, at San Diego International Airport, ABC 10News spoke to travelers who had the same thought.“I got tested about a week ago, just to make sure that everything is OK. And I know you can have it without having symptoms, so I did as much as I could to prepare before I came,” said Dana McLin.And along with getting a test, these travelers made sure they brought everything else they need to stay health while traveling this Thanksgiving holiday.Jan McLin said, “We are wearing our masks and we use hand sanitizers, sanitizing wipes, washing out hands constantly. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - University of California, San Diego, campus police are searching for suspect secretly recording women on campus.UCSD police said videos have been posted online showing underneath female skirts in various public places on campus. Police said the videos recorded have also depicted females in shorts or yoga pants.Police said they are attempting to identify a suspect and any victims involved.Anyone with information that may be helpful in the investigation is asked to call campus police at 858-534-4357 or email UCSD police at detective@ucsd.edu.Police advised those at risk to report any suspicious activity they see, have a plan to address any invasion of privacy, be aware of your surroundings and locations of campus emergency phones, and to use the campus safety escort program. 835

SAN DIEGO (KGTV)- As elections are quickly approaching, a San Diego man is expressing concerns after discovering what appeared to be undelivered mail ballots and voter guides in City Heights.“I was out walking the dogs, and I found this stack of voter ballots; it was mixed in with ballot envelopes and voter guides,” said Jeremy Alaynick. “Just kept finding them the more I walked.”He sent ABC10News pictures that appeared to show a combination of approximately two dozen unvoted ballots and sample ballot/voter information pamphlets.Alaynick, a professional dog walker, said he did not report the incident immediately because he was walking dogs for a client.“I would have picked them all up and taken them to the post office, but I’m thinking about the dogs, and that just wasn’t running through my mind at that moment,” he said.He was working to report the incident Wednesday.Registrar of Voters, Michael Vu, tells ABC 10News, situations like this are uncommon, and investigations are launched as soon as his office is aware.“What we generally do is we touch base with the US Postal Service. It would have been great to receive this information at the time rather than a week later, particularly for those respective voters but also for us to be able to manage it,” he said.Vu said if voters have concerns or haven’t received their ballots by mail, options are available.“We are tracking every single one of these ballots, so when a voter says they have not received their mail ballot, we have the ability to suspend that ballot and reissue them another one,” he said. “If there are voted mail ballots that come back to our office, we compare the signature off of the envelope against the signature on file. So every single one of these is validated.”If you are voting by mail, Vu recommends tracking your ballot here.“Voters themselves, they have the ability to track their mail ballot as it’s traveling to them or traveling back to us after they voted,” he said.If you across a situation like this, Vu said to report it to his office right away.A spokesperson for the United States Postal Inspection Service tells ABC 10News they cannot comment on this matter. 2174
