after a pickup truck sank into a pond Monday night. Unfortunately, a father and daughter did not survive. The Butler County Coroner said 6-year-old Nena Harrison and 35-year-old Morance Harrison died of accidental drowning at the Villages of Wildwood Apartments. The unidentified dog walker pulled Nena’s 4-year-old brother from the pond and told witnesses he almost succeeded in rescuing Nena.Donte Lasky and Kai Krumman, who live in the complex, told WCPO they were riding their bikes near the pond when they saw the red pickup sink into the water. on Interstate 41/94 killed two semi truck drivers and seriously injured two other people.Racine County Sheriff Chris Schmaling said as a semi truck heading south on the interstate tried to change lanes they hit a construction barrier that pushed the median into the northbound lanes.Three other passenger vehicles heading north collided as a result. Schmaling said a second semi truck heading north tried to avoid the collision causing it to veer off the road and crashed before bursting into flames. The sheriff said they received several 911 calls reporting the crash and explosions. He attributed the explosion sounds to tires in the crash heating up then blowing up."In my 24 years on this job and this is the worst accident I’ve ever been a part of," said Schmaling. The crash shut down I-94 and frontage roads to traffic for several hours causing lenthy back ups. The sheriff said emergency responders had difficulty getting to the scene.Schmaling urged drivers to be cautious driving in extreme construction zones, adding a small mistake can have a devastating impact."These are interstate speeds were talking about and ultimately it cost him his life and the life of another human being, and I hope and pray that the lives of the others are right now in the hospital getting care don’t lose their lives as well. It just underscores the importance that we need to slow down, pay attention and be aware of our surroundings when we’re under construction," said Schmaling. The sheriff describe the second semi truck driver's actions to avoid hitting the three passenger vehicles as heroic.Authorities have not identified the two drivers who died. This story was originally published on 1688

Wreckage from the USS Lexington -- a US aircraft carrier sunk by the Japanese during World War II -- has been discovered 500 miles off the Australian coast by a team of explorers led by billionaire Paul Allen, the Microsoft co-founder announced on Monday. One of the first US aircraft carriers ever built, the vessel dubbed "Lady Lex" was located at the bottom of the Coral Sea -- nearly two miles below the surface -- by the expedition crew of Research Vessel Petrel on Sunday, Allen said. The Lexington was lost in May 1942 along with 216 of its crew and 35 aircraft during what is considered the first carrier battle in history -- the Battle of the Coral Sea."To pay tribute to the USS Lexington and the brave men that served on her is an honor," Allen said in a statement. "As Americans, all of us owe a debt of gratitude to everyone who served and who continue to serve our country for their courage, persistence and sacrifice."Along with the USS Yorktown, the Lexington and its fleet faced off against three Japanese aircraft carriers and is credited with helping to stop Japan's advances on New Guinea and Australia. The battle occurred just one month before the US Navy "surprised Japanese forces at the Battle of Midway and turned the tide of the war in the Pacific for good," according to Allen."The Battle of the Coral Sea was notable not only for stopping a Japanese advance but because it was the first naval engagement in history where opposing ships never came within sight of each other," read the statement from Allen.US ships were able to rescue more than 2,000 sailors before the Lexington ultimately sank from the damage sustained from a bombardment of Japanese torpedoes."As the son of a survivor of the USS Lexington, I offer my congratulations to Paul Allen and the expedition crew of Research Vessel (R/V) Petrel for locating the "Lady Lex," sunk nearly 76 years ago at the Battle of Coral Sea," Navy Adm. Harry B. Harris of US Pacific Command said Monday in a statement."We honor the valor and sacrifice of the 'Lady Lex's' sailors -- all those Americans who fought in World War II -- by continuing to secure the freedoms they won for all of us," he said. 2190

can mean doubling your salary overnight. But a cheating scandal last October rocked this elite world of wine. A member of the board of directors of the Court of Master Sommeliers was caught sharing answers about which wines were served on the tasting portion of the exam. The Court said it couldn't identify which candidates received answers, so 23 newly minted master sommeliers were summarily stripped of their titles. Now, nearly a year later, 448
