FREDERICK, Colo. -- A Frederick husband and father is behind bars in the Weld County Jail, booked early Thursday morning for the disappearance of his pregnant wife and two young daughters.According to two law enforcement officials, Christopher Watts, 33, has confessed to killing Shanann?Watts, 34, and their two daughters — 3-year-old Celeste and 4-year-old Bella. Officials believe they know where the bodies are.Watts and her daughters were reported missing out of Frederick on Monday. The Colorado Bureau of Investigation issued a missing-endangered alert for the three on Tuesday. A day later, the Federal Bureau of Investigation joined in the search.Just after midnight Thursday, an official with the Frederick Police Department said they had made an arrest "in connection to the missing person's case" involving Shanann Watts and her two girls. Officials said they were awaiting charges for the suspect, who will be held at the Weld County Jail for the time being.Police declined to comment further on the investigation. Watts was 15 weeks pregnant. FREDERICK, Colo. – A chance encounter between a Firestone man and the mourning father of Shanann Watts Wednesday night has led to a new effort to repurpose many of the stuffed animals left at a memorial at the Watts home for other grieving families.Trent John and his son were driving through the neighborhood in Frederick where Shanann lived with her two daughters Wednesday evening when they stopped by the home and noticed Shanann’s father, Frank Rzucek, and brother, Frank Rzucek, Jr., out in the home’s driveway.John said he immediately recognized them and decided to get out of the car and introduce himself.“I said, ‘Hey, I’ve been in law enforcement for a long time and I know these teddy bears are going to get donated to somewhere,’” John said on Friday. “’Would it be OK with you if I took them and with the smaller ones, I gave them back to police departments to hand out, and then take the bigger ones and turn them into some kind of a blanket or something that we could distribute to fire departments and police departments here locally and across the nation?’”He said his offer was met “with some tears and a lot of appreciation” by the Rzuceks.“I gave her father a hug and we shed some tears and shook each other’s’ hands,” John said. “Now we’re going to get to work.”So on Thursday, John and some neighbors who were taking the memorial down filled up his Suburban with some of the leftover teddy bears and other stuffed animals. He says he’s coordinated with about a dozen friends who know how to sew and says that they’re drafting plans for the blankets.John said he’s hoping to find out the favorite colors of the Watts girls, Bella and Celeste, to “design something in honor of them.”“I think that service is a great way to mourn with those that need comfort, so that’s what we’re going to try to do,” he said.He said the smaller stuffed animals would be cleaned and donated to local police and fire departments, who can in turn give them to kids in crisis situations. The others will be turned into blankets and other items. John said he would be setting up a private Facebook page to ask for fleece donations and other items necessary in coming days.“I hope we can take that and share that love in moments of crisis in someone else’s life,” he said.John believes that something put him and the Rzuceks in the same place at the same time earlier this week for a reason.“What’s the chances of my day and his day aligning right then and there? I actually do think God say, ‘Hey, you know, here’s someone who has a big heart and can put people together and get something done that’s beautiful and helpful.’” John said. “Looking back on the moment I met [Shanann’s] father, I think it was just an alignment of a grieving family and someone who is very involved in the community, and our paths just happened to cross.”And he hopes that his small gesture is supported by others in Colorado and across the community who have tried to support Shanann’s family.“As human beings there’s no way to grasp what happened here,” John said. “But we do know how to come together, we do know how to love each other and we do know how to lift up the hands of those that are in mourning.”Rzucek himself responded to a Facebook post made by John discussing the encounter: “Thank you Shanann would want to give back to people who need god bless you all thank you Frank”. 3377

For students whose summer plans fell through, organizations across the country are working to make sure internships are still a possibility.The DeBruce Foundation is teaming up with partners to provide students a virtual head start in their careers.The national nonprofit foundation, based in Kansas City, Missouri, works to expand pathways to economic growth and opportunity. One of those ways is student success and internships.However, this summer, they had to pivot their summer plans due to COVID-19.According to Glassdoor, internship hiring fell 39 percent in April 2020 compared to the same time last year."We’re building talent and sometimes it’s talent for today, but sometimes it’s talent for tomorrow," The DeBruce Foundation Senior Director, Robin Smith said. "And so our work pipeline suffers if we don’t have those ways for people to gain work relevant skill. And so it functions on that level and then individuals' level of really connecting talent and opportunity."That's why the foundation is seeking out opportunities, not only to hire their own interns but partnering with area organizations that help students get internships."There are different partners that we work with that they wanted to test and try virtual internships," Smith said. "We were able to provide financial support for them and also different kinds of tools that we use."Hire KC, Startland Internship and Urban Leadership Fellowship are the partners the Foundation is working with and providing funding to allow more students the opportunity for a virtual internship.Alex Oleson, a rising senior at St. Louis University, is The DeBruce Foundation for this summer and says it's been a fairly smooth transition going into a virtual internship after completing online learning for the last three months."In some instances, it does give you a bit more flexibility," Oleson said. "It’s kind of like working from home but I like it and I like that there’s definitely an aspect of dependability."Oleson is studying political science with a minor in economics and urban poverty studies. He said he's been able to delve into various areas with the foundation, including strategic planning, media, marketing and communications and product development, where he's able to provide his insight.The foundation also has a product development lab. Frank Avruch, who was best known for playing Bozo the Clown, died Tuesday at the age of 89, according to his manager Stuart Hersh."While it's hard to say goodbye, we celebrate the legacy of joy and laughter he brought to millions of children around the world as Bozo the Clown on TV and as a UNICEF Ambassador and later as host of Channel 5's Great Entertainment and Boston's Man About Town," a statement from Avruch's family read. "Our dad loved the children of all ages who remembered being on his show and was always grateful for their kind words. We will miss him greatly."Bozo made his television debut in 1949, portrayed by Pinto Colvig. In 1965, "Bozo's Big Top" became a syndicated series in local markets across the country.Avruch played Bozo from 1959 to 1970 and was the first nationally syndicated version of the clown. Other performers of the popular character were Willard Scott, Bob Bell and Joey D'Auria.Avruch worked at WCVB in Boston for more than 40 years and was inducted into the National Television Academy's Gold Circle."He had a heart of gold," Hersh said in a statement to CNN.
