EL CAJON, Calif. (KGTV) — East County authorities are searching for a reported person trying to lure students at a nearby elementary school.El Cajon Police said officials at Flying Hills Elementary requested extra patrols Thursday over concerns of someone trying to lure students. Police said a 9-year-old boy was in an alley near the 1300 block of North Cuyamaca St. when a man approached in a vehicle. The man waved to the boy and said "get in the car." The vehicle was described as a red sedan, while the suspect was described as a white man in his 20s, with a mustache, red shirt, and black baseball hat.Police said they are aware of two other separate incidents as well. The first was on Tuesday in the 100 block of South Mollison Ave. A 12-year-old girl was approached by a man in a vehicle as she was walking to school. The man asked her a question and made a sexual comment before driving away, police said.The man was described as a white man, with balding dark hair, "scruffy" unshaven face, and possibly wearing a gray shirt and gray pants.The second incident occurred that same day just after 3:15 p.m. on Swallow Dr. A 13-year-old girl was walking home east of Finsh St. when man on foot approached her and said "come with me, I'm safe." He was described as a white man in his 40s, with a gray beard, short dark hair, and last seen wearing tan shorts, a dark shirt, black baseball hat, and black backpack.Police are investigating all three incidents, but said they do not believe they are related. Police have increased patrols in the area and at nearby schools.School staff from Lakeside Middle School also reported a suspicious incident as well just after 9:30 a.m. Thursday, according to the San Diego Sheriff's Department. Staff say one of their students was walking near Woodside Ave. and Winter Gardens Blvd. when he was approached by a man driving a blue car and told to get in the car.However, the student ignored the driver and kept walking to school, where he reported the incident.Anyone with any information is asked to call El Cajon Police at 619-579-3311 or San Diego Sheriff's at 858-565-5200. 2129

(KGTV) — An East County restaurant hit hard by the pandemic has been hit by thieves, twice in a three-day span.Like so many other restaurants, the pandemic has not been kind to Hacienda Casa Blanca Mexican Restaurant and Cantina in El Cajon."Definitely not easy. It's been crazy with new changes every day," said co-owner Cindy Gomez.Gomez says the restaurant has received a federal PPP loan, but revenues are down about 30% to 40% since March."From the first day, we've been trying to keep our staff working .. Haven't had to lay off anyone," said Gomez.Gomez says they had to spend extra when COVID-19 restrictions led them to set up for dining in the parking lot. That extra money spent vanished overnight during a weekend a few weeks ago. Two large canopies and two umbrellas were stolen.A few days later, there was another theft. This time, an umbrella, table, chairs, and a plant disappeared."Take a lot to get angry, but I got angry. Then it went to total frustration," said Gomez.Eventually, the items from the second theft were recovered outside a nearby building. EL CAJON (CNS) - A Santee man accused of in the death of his infant daughter pleaded not guilty today to charges of murder and child abuse. Daniel Charles Marshall, 34, was arrested and charged last week in connection with the April 25 death of 7-month-old Hailey Marshall.Paramedics responding to a medical emergency call in the 8600 block of Paseo Del Rey in Santee on April 22 found the child in medical distress, Lt. Thomas Seiver said. She was pronounced dead at a hospital three days later of injuries that included skull fractures, prosecutors said.The circumstances of the death ``warranted further investigation, resulting in the (sheriff's) child abuse unit responding,'' according toSeiver. ``As the investigation progressed, the homicide unit responded and assumed responsibility of the investigation.'' EL CAJON (KGTV) -- In response to growing concerns of the rapidly spreading coronavirus, Grossmont-Cuyamaca Community College District officials have announced that they will be canceling in-person classes for a week as a precautionary measure.Grossmont and Cuyamaca college campuses will close the week of March 16-20 and temporarily shift to online instruction as a precautionary measure.“We are taking these extraordinary measures out of an abundance of caution,” said Chancellor Lynn Neault. “We are doing everything we can to ensure a safe and healthy environment for our students, employees and the public, while ensuring that our student can complete their classes.”The colleges join numerous local and national institutions that are also announcing face-to-face instruction to quell the spread of coronavirus, including Chula Vista's Southwestern College, San Diego State University, and USD.Non-instructional employees will be on site during their regular work hours, according to officials."All student events for the next two weeks are canceled, and intercollegiate athletics games are cancelled through March 29.
