MEDELLIN, Colombia, March 29 (Xinhua) -- China's membership in the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) will broaden cooperation between China and Latin America, China's central bank governor Zhou Xiaochuan said here Saturday.     Closer bilateral cooperation will enhance their ability to jointly tackle the ongoing financial crisis, Zhou told an IDB meeting in Medellin. He added that China, as a new member, is willing to share development experience and enhance trade relations with Latin America.     South-South cooperation is all the more important amid the current financial crisis, and China will expand its trade with and increase its investment in Latin American countries after it joined the IDB, he said.     Two-way trade between China and Latin America has grown at an average annual rate of 40 percent in recent years, hitting a record high of 143.3 billion U.S. dollars in 2008.     China joined the IDB as its 48th member country in January this year. Zhou is here for the 50th annual meeting of the IDB, scheduled for March 27-31 in the Colombian city of Medellin.     The IDB group, founded in 1959 and headquartered in Washington D.C., is the oldest and largest regional inter-governmental development financial institution. It is aimed to promote economic and social development in Latin America and the Caribbean.

Advisor Huang Xinyang, president of the Beijing Taoism Association, said that the speech reflects the heartfelt wishes of advisors from the religious circle, who support the ideal of social harmony and national unity.     "A handful of separatists who advocate 'Tibet independence' do not represent the people of the religious circle and they are doomed to failure," said Huang.     Advisor Ma Guoquan from northwest Ningxia Hui Autonomous Regionsaid: "The religious policy we have now is the most appropriate. MOSCOW, March 22 (Xinhua) -- Top think tanks from Russia and China discussed a wide range of security issues of common concern at a two-day seminar that ended here Sunday.     participants at the seminar exchanged ideas on world economic and political trend, the situation in Central Asia, and prospects for the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) under the global security framework.     The seminar, "Russia and China in a new era," was co-chaired by China Institute for International Strategic Studies (CIISS) and Russian Council for Foreign and Defense Policy (CFDP).     Xiong Guangkai, chairman of the CIISS, and Sergei Karaganov, head of the CFDP, attended the meeting.     Participants in the meeting agreed that the current world is ata stage of profound change and major readjustment. The ongoing financial crisis has led to greater instability in global and regional situation. Yet, the world will continue to move towards multi-polarization despite emerging complexities in global situation.     Both sides believed that safeguarding security and stability in Central Asia serves the common strategic interests of China and Russia, and is also a necessity for deepening the two countries' strategic cooperation.     They also agreed the SCO, as a new organization of regional security cooperation, not only accords with fundamental interests of all the SCO members, but also contributes to regional and global peace and security. China and Russia shall strengthen understanding, trust and cooperation to ensure the sound development of the SCO.     As a national, nongovernmental institute on global issues, the CIISS keeps in touch with about 100 institutions from over 50 countries and regions across the world.
