EL CAJON, Calif. (KGTV) – Firefighters Tuesday fought a blaze that burned just feet away from homes in El Cajon. According to crews, the fire broke out after 1 p.m. near Main Street and Travelodge Drive. Crews could be seen fighting the blaze from atop a hill in an effort to prevent flames from reaching nearby homes.Firefighters say, at one point, flames came within 20 feet of nearby homes. Heartland Fire, Viejas and Cal Fire all responded to the blaze along with a helicopter crew. The fire started as temperatures rose and humidity plummeted. Seniors at Miami's Christopher Columbus High School had expected a fun night at their "Welcome to the Jungle" themed prom.The lasting memory of Friday's prom will instead be one of controversy, after a live tiger was brought in to perform at the dance.The school posted videos of the tiger's appearance at prom on its Instagram account, which have since been deleted. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A severely injured horse trainer and her husband filed a lawsuit against SLR Training Center INC., the company that owns the San Luis Rey Downs Training Center in Bonsall. The nine-page complaint was filed March 18, and it focuses on the events of Dec. 7, 2017, when the Lilac Fire burned through the training facility. Martine Bellocq suffered burns to more than 60 percent of her body and lost a leg while trying to save racehorses, including her own. The court documents allege negligence on the part of the training facility. It also claims the San Luis Rey Downs facility “failed to keep a defensible space around structures.” It goes on to say “there were no fire suppression systems in place” and it “failed to have the foresight to have a means to evacuate the facility, or an emergency plan in place.” Bellocq’s attorney says her medical bills are racking up, currently in the hundreds of thousands of dollars. The attorney says the lawsuit is to recoup economic damages, resulting from injuries and the impact on her life. San Luis Rey Downs declined to give 10News a comment regarding the lawsuit. 1140
