LOGAN HEIGHTS (KGTV) - Police are investigating a stabbing in Logan Heights that left one man injured.The stabbing happened just before 6:20 p.m. Sunday in the 3000 block on National Avenue near 30th Street.Police say the man was stabbed in an alley at least two times, once in the leg and once in the face.The man was transported to UCSD with non-life threatening injuries.There were no witnesses to the stabbing.Police say they are currently looking at cameras in the area to identify a suspect.Residents in the area told 10News that crime has been increasing in their neighborhood. 592

LOS ANGELES (AP) — A study of a disastrous wildfire that raged through Los Angeles and Ventura counties last year found the inferno presented unprecedented challenges to emergency agencies, according to a draft of a consultant's report released Wednesday.The review by Citygates Associates LLC for Los Angeles County mixed praise with 86 recommendations for improvements in response, communication, evacuation and repopulation, and transition to recovery.The so-called Woolsey Fire broke out Nov. 8, 2018, in Ventura County during a spate of emergencies including a fire that destroyed the Northern California town of Paradise and killed dozens, a mass shooting and a nearby wildfire an hour earlier.The report called the scenario "a perfect storm of factors that, when aligned, drove an event never experienced in the Los Angeles region."Fanned by strong Santa Ana winds, the fire raced into western Los Angeles County, burning simultaneously through three of four historic fire corridors in the Santa Monica Mountains and through part of the city of Malibu until it reached the Pacific Ocean the next day.The fire scorched 151.5 square miles (392 square kilometers) and destroyed 1,643 structures, mostly homes. Another 364 structures were damaged. Three people were killed and about 250,000 people were evacuated.Among key findings, the report found that fire services' mutual aid resources were exhausted by the fire's first evening and fire commanders strategically shifted all resources to prioritize life safety as the blaze rapidly grew in 50 mph (80 kph) gusts.The report called for rethinking how to prepare, fight and recover from wildfires across jurisdictional boundaries. LOS ANGELES (AP) — The Los Angeles mayor says National Guard troops will be deployed overnight as violence continues in the nation's second-largest city. Mayor Eric Garcetti said Saturday evening he asked Gov. Gavin Newsom for 500 to 700 members of the Guard. The mayor imposed a curfew on the city after crowds torched police cars and burglarized stores. Everyone was ordered to be off the streets until 5:30 a.m. Sunday. Clashes between protesters and lines of police officers came after an initially peaceful gathering. More than 500 people were arrested during clashes downtown Friday night. LONDON (AP) — A half-million people in the English city of Liverpool will be regularly tested for COVID-19 in Britain's first citywide trial of widespread, rapid testing that the government hopes will be a new weapon in combatting the pandemic.In a statement Tuesday, the government said that testing would begin later this week at sites throughout the city using various technologies, including new methods that can provide results in an hour or less.Everyone who lives or works in the city in northwestern England will be offered the test, regardless of whether they have symptoms.Through a partnership between Liverpool City Council, NHS Test, and Trace and Ministry of Defence, the government would provide the tests.The government said approximately 2,000 military personnel on Thursday would help plan the logistics and deliver tests."Anyone who tests positive, using either a lateral flow test or an existing swab test, must self-isolate along with their household immediately, and their contacts will be traced," officials stated in the press release.The government said anyone who tests – and contacts required to self-isolate – will be entitled to the ￡500 Test and Trace Support Payment.On Monday, 18,950 new confirmed cases of coronavirus were recorded in the UK, the BBC reported. 1301
