BEIJING, May 6 (Xinhua) -- Chinese President Hu Jintao and his U.S. counterpart, Barack Obama, on Wednesday discussed bilateral relations and the A/H1N1 flu epidemic during a telephone conversation.     Hu recalled that during their meeting at the Group of 20 summit in London in early April, he and Obama agreed to work together to build a positive, cooperative and comprehensive relationship in the 21st century.     The two leaders also reached extensive consensus on the establishment of the mechanism of China-U.S. Strategic and Economic Dialogues, joint efforts to tackle the international financial crisis, and enhanced coordination and cooperation on major global and regional issues, Hu said.     "Now, both countries are seriously implementing the consensus," the Chinese president said.     "China is willing to work with the United States to push for a healthy and stable development of China-U.S. relations," he said.     Obama, for his part, said the meeting with Hu was important because it outlined the future development of bilateral cooperation and made a good start on the China-U.S. strategic dialogue.     The United States appreciated China's efforts to promote bilateral relations, he said.     The Chinese president expressed sincere condolences over the A/H1N1 flu epidemic that has hit parts of the United States, and said the Chinese government has started emergency measures to prevent a spread of the disease.     "We are willing to keep contact with the World Health Organization, the United States and other parties concerned, and strengthen cooperation to jointly confront this public health challenge," Hu said.     Obama said his country has adopted effective measures against the disease and will continue to keep a close eye on the outbreak.     The U.S. president said he was looking forward to meeting with Hu again during a meeting of leaders of the Group of Eight nations and developing countries in Italy. Obama said he was also looking forward to visiting China.     The two leaders also exchanged views on such issues as the situation on the Korean Peninsula and the situation in South Asia.

XI'AN, June 7 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao has urged the country's college students to find grassroots jobs in less developed regions as the economic downturn increases pressures in employment market.     Visiting Xi'an, capital of central Shaanxi Province, from Friday to Sunday, Wen said employment was one of the government's priorities for the sake of the country's economy and for the future of individuals.     "College students, laid-off workers and migrant workers waiting for jobs are my biggest concern," Wen told job hunters at an employment center.     He encouraged graduates from universities and colleges to find work in grassroots regions, and called on employers to create more jobs.     Since the second half of last year, the government has implemented a series of policies to create jobs. SHARM EL-SHEIKH, July 16 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Vice Foreign Minister He Yafei, head of the Chinese delegation to the 15th Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) summit held in Egypt, said on Thursday China will continue to support NAM as always.     "As one of the developing countries, China will continue to support NAM as always for it to play a role in international affairs and speak in one voice on issues related to the common interests of developing countries," said He.     "This is the chief purpose of my presence at the summit on behalf of the Chinese government," he said in an exclusive interview with Xinhua on the sidelines of the summit.     He said that though great changes in internal and external circumstances have taken place since its birth nearly half a century ago, NAM is still an important platform for developing countries to unite and strive to become stronger, with its tenet and spirit still showing great vitality.     China, now an observer to NAM, has attached great importance to its ties with NAM and maintained good cooperation with the movement in international affairs.     When NAM was formally established in 1961, then Chinese PremierZhou Enlai and other Chinese leaders sent congratulation messages to the founding conference, expressing support for the NAM's cause of independence, peace and development and its non-alignment policy.     China became an observer to NAM in September 1992, when a Chinese governmental delegation, headed by then State Councilor and Foreign Minister Qian Qichen, attended the 10th NAM summit in the Indonesian capital of Jakarta. Since then, China has been a participant at every top NAM meeting.     At the 15th summit which wrapped up on Thursday in the Egyptian Red Sea resort of Sharm el-Sheikh, the Chinese vice foreign minister reiterated China's policy in strengthening cooperation with NAM to safeguard world peace, stability and development, particularly in jointly addressing the global financial crisis.     He told Xinhua that he has stressed in his speech at the summit that though the developing countries were not the maker of the global financial crisis, they are the most unfortunate victim. The movement now groups 118 member states, 17 observer countries and 10 observer organizations, comprising nearly two-thirds of UN member states and 55 percent of the world population.

BEIJING, May 10 (Xinhua) -- China and Kuwait signed five agreements here on Sunday in an effort to further the bilateral relations to a higher level.     The agreements covered fields of energy, finance, telecommunication, transportation and education, according a press release from the Chinese Foreign Ministry. VENICE, May 25 (Xinhua) -- China's top lawmaker Wu Bangguo left here for home on Sunday afternoon after concluding his three-nation Europe tour, which helped push his country's relations and cooperation with Europe.     Wu is the first chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC), top legislature of China, who has paid an official goodwill visit to Austria in 15 years and to Italy in 12 years. The Europe tour also took Wu to Russia. During the 11-day trip, Wu met with the heads of state and governments of the three European nations and held talks with their parliament leaders. The wind tunnel has undertaken tests and data gathering for locomotives used in city subway system in Shanghai.     Wu also visited in Rome a research and development center under the Italian National Agency for New Technology, Energy and the Environment (ENEA) He inspected the high-temperature sole heat system for generating electricity at the R&D center.     Wu said it is a global trend in the energy sector to develop new energy and renewable energy in a broad prospect of growth. He said the Chinese government places great importance on and actively promotes development and application of all kinds of renewable energy, including solar energy. He expressed the wish that research institutes and companies of the two countries should increase cooperation and investment in this respect so as to jointly exploit the renewable energy market.     During the visit, both Wu and leaders of the three nations agreed that under the circumstances of international financial crisis, strengthening practical cooperation will not only help the countries to overcome current difficulties, but also help promote the recovery of world economy.
