(KGTV) — The Saddleridge Fire forced thousands of northern Los Angeles residents to evacuate this week, charring thousands of acres and threatening homes.As the fire rages, firefighters have issued several neighborhood evacuations and street closures in the area. A 19-year-old man walked out of an Ohio court after being sentenced Wednesday and led police on a chase before crashing.Authorities said Cyrus Matthews, 19, appeared at the courthouse in Wadsworth to be sentenced to 90 days in jail for a criminal damaging charge and a reckless operations chargeMatthews allegedly told authorities he was not going to jail.He fled the courthouse after Judge Stephen Mcllvaine read his sentencing. Matthews got in the driver's seat of a vehicle outside Wadsworth City Hall. There was a person in the passenger's seat who authorities say he knew. After fleeing the courthouse, he led police on a chase, striking several cars.The chase ended in a bad crash and reported entrapment. Five people from several vehicles were taken to a nearby hospital with injuries that appeared to be not life-threatening, according to police. 912

A 60-year-old homeless man was arrested on Thursday in Okaloosa County, Florida after he was accused of molesting a 6-year-old girl at an emergency shelter as residents rode out Hurricane Michael on Wednesday. The makeshift shelter was located at a middle school.According to the Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office, John Stapleton was arrested on charges of lewd and lascivious molestation of a victim under the age of 12.A witness reported to deputies that Stapleton was seen on video allegedly touching the 6-year-old girl in a lewd manner underneath her clothing. The sheriff's office said that investigators reviewed the video and that Stapleton admitted to touching the girl, but not in a lewd manner.According to the Northwest Florida Daily News, deputies said they routinely run background checks on evacuees entering emergency shelters. The Daily News said there was no record that Stapleton had ever been charged with child molestation in the past. Background checks at emergency shelters have been a point of contention, according to the Daily News. At another shelter in Okaloosa County, staffers from the Red Cross reportedly walked out over a disagreement about background checks. The Daily News reported that the Red Cross does not condone the practice of performing background checks to prevent sexual offenders from staying at emergency shelters.  1424

(KGTV) — Virgin Galactic Thursday revealed a look at plans for the world's first-ever commercial spaceport in New Mexico.The look at the "Gateway to Space" building at Spaceport America included the center's mission control, pilots' working area, briefing center, and shared lounge center for customers and staff.The first floor of Gateway to Space serves as the social hub, dining, and lounge area of the center between guests and staff.
