SAN DIEGO (KGTV) – The two candidates hoping to become San Diego’s next mayor cast their ballots on Tuesday morning, and both Democrats had messages to voters on Election Day.Barbara Bry and her husband dropped off their ballots at a library in La Jolla on Tuesday. The day before, Bry spent time with her supporters and worked to drum up more support from voters.With his family by his said, Todd Gloria cast his ballot on Tuesday at the County Registrar of Voters in Kearny Mesa. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - This election fired up voters and one Serra Mesa couple was driven by duty to vote for the first time.Anthony Joiner and Justine Gibson are engaged, and invested in this election."We recently became home owners and in the next few years we'll be parents hopefully so we feel like the future is in our hands and we want to be part of the decisions that are happening," Joiner said, with Gibson adding, "wanted to make it count."FIND YOUR POLLING PLACEJoiner said it felt great to cast his ballot for the first time, "I feel accomplished."Joiner and Gibson filled their ballots out in person. "We wanted the full experience," they said laughing."This year more than ever we felt the importance of voting and having our voices heard, this was primarily driven by the current political environment! I feel like the presidential race without a doubt is important, however equally as important are the local races/props that will have a direct impact on our quality of life," Gibson said.They didn't make their decisions in isolation, "we filled out our ballots together [at home]," Joiner said. "We’re pretty much on the same page on all things political and whatnot so it was a little bit easier," Gibson chimed in."We didn’t want our votes to cancel one another out so if we disagreed on something we would talk about it a little bit and see why," Joiner said laughing.Joiner said he hopes the tension fades after the election, "and I really want everyone to just get along really."Both hope for a positive outcome, "no matter what way it goes people just accept it," Joiner said. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - The United States Postal Service is handling nearly 16 billion deliveries this holiday season, a record number.Warren Burton, a program manager at the USPS, says it is a 12 percent increase from last year.“There’s a lot of online shopping,” he said, “a lot more than last year.” As a result, the USPS processing and distribution center at Carmel Mountain Ranch in San Diego added more seasonal workers. About 1,100 people are working around the clock up from the normal staffing of close to 900.“We gear up all year for this time of the year, we know it’s going to be non-stop, high volume-high demand,” Burton added.The White House declared Christmas Eve a federal holiday this year, but Burton says that USPS will remain open on Christmas Eve.“We greatly appreciate the gesture, but we’re going to keep working so we can keep the mail going,” Burton said.He says Dec. 20 is the last day to mail out a package or holiday card to make sure it is delivered by Christmas Day using regular shipping. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - The suspect in the shooting death of a man near the 24 Hour Fitness in the Midway area is an undocumented immigrant with a prior immigration violation, according to law enforcement sources.San Diego Police arrived at the rear parking lot of the gym at 3675 Midway Drive February 25 to find Alexander Mazin, 27, suffering from a gunshot wound to the torso. He died at the scene.After the shooting, officers surrounded an apartment at 30th St and Upas in North Park. But lifeguards are warning people expected to flock to the shores of San Diego about stingrays. “The stingrays are out in full force,” lifeguards said in a Facebook post. According to lifeguards, the California round ray feeds in the shallows off the California coast. RELATED: Today's full forecastThe creatures lay partially buried in the sand while hunting, causing problems for unknowing beachgoers. “Stingrays have a sheathed barb in their tail that is used when stepped on or when threatened,” the post continued.
