BEIJING, April 15 (Xinhua) -- The Chinese government said Thursday it plans to increase the land supply available for residential property, in a bid to guide the country's runaway property market into more healthy development.China will supply 180,000 hectares of land nationwide to build houses this year, excluding the Tibet Autonomous Region, compared with an area of 76,461 hectares in 2009, the Ministry of Land and Resources (MLR) said.Areas for low-cost housing, renovated shanty houses and small- and medium-sized apartments will be allocated more than 70 percent of the total land supply, the ministry said.In breakdown, areas for small- and medium-sized apartments alone would reach 80,431 hectares this year, exceeding China's total land supply in 2009.Some 35,786 hectares would be allocated for renovated shanty houses, accounting for 19 percent of this year's total land supply.Areas for low-cost housing, consisting of affordable housing and low-rent housing, would be given 24,454 hectares, more than double the 2009 figure.The central government vowed to build three million low-cost apartments for low-income families and renovate 2.8 million shanty houses at the Third Session of the 11th National People's Congress in March this year."We merely need 12,000 hectares to meet the goal set by the central government to build the three million low-cost apartments, well below this year's planned land supply for this part," said Liao Yonglin, director of the department of land use management of the MLR.

HARARE, May 31 (Xinhua) – The Communist Party of China (CPC) and Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe's Zanu-PF on Monday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to promote political exchanges and cooperation between the two parties.This was disclosed by Wang Gang, vice chairman of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference National Committee and member of the CPC Central Committee Political Bureau, who is leading a high-powered delegation to Zimbabwe.Speaking during a meeting with Zimbabwean Vice President Joice Mujuru and senior Zanu-PF officials on Monday, Wang said the agreement will enable the two parties to consolidate relations and work together in exploring new ways to enhance ties."Guided by this memorandum of understanding for the next five years, our party-to-party relations will have a more in-depth development," Wang said, adding the MOU will see the two parties increasing high level exchange visits and sharing experiences."We very much cherish the friendship between Zimbabwe and China. We view Zimbabwe as a reliable friend and good partner," he said.Wang added China will continue to render assistance to Zimbabwe to help it develop its economy.Wang also called on Western nations to lift sanctions on Zimbabwe to expedite economic recovery in the country.Mujuru paid tribute to China for its economic and political support to Zimbabwe over the years."We know it has not been easy for China to stand by us over difficult times but as Zimbabwe we are grateful for the support," she said.She said Zanu-PF was interested in further developing its relations with CPC, especially in the area of youth and women training and political exchange programs.Wang and his delegation will be in Zimbabwe for three days.

BEIJING, May 28 (Xinhua) -- As a bilateral agreement, the Japan-U.S. Treaty of Mutual Cooperation and Security should not harm the interests of China and other third parities, said Foreign Ministry spokesman Ma Zhaoxu here Friday.Ma made the remarks in response to a question about Japan's latest claim over the Diaoyu Islands in a news report.According to the report, Japan said on Thursday the Diaoyu Islands were a part of Japan and the U.S. would be obligated according to the treaty to engage in military conflicts between China and Japan over the island should they occur.Ma said China has indisputable sovereignty over the Diaoyu Island and adjacent islets, which have been an inalienable part of China's territory since ancient times.

CANBERRA, May 15 (Xinhua) -- Visiting General Guo Boxiong, vice-chairman of China's Central Military Commission, and Australian Minister for Defense John Faulkner have vowed to strengthen exchanges between the armed forces of China and Australia.China and Australia shared common interests and desire in ensuring the peace, stability and development of the Asia-Pacific region, said a joint statement released by Guo and Faulkner Friday.The two sides hailed the development of their military-to-military relationship in recent years and said positive outcomes had been achieved through senior visits and exchanges in education, training and technical areas.Both sides agreed that strengthening open dialogue on defense and security issues between Australia and China was conducive to promoting bilateral relations.The statement said China and Australia were both pleased with the outcomes of the current visit and the opportunity it provided to further strengthen bilateral ties and military exchanges.The Sino-Australia defense relationship was an important part of bilateral ties and both sides would work concertedly to sustain sound and stable development in this regard, it said.Both countries should respect and take into full consideration each other's core interests and major concerns, and develop ties on the basis of mutual respect, equality and mutual benefit, the statement said.
