SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- SeaWorld San Diego plans to close Thursday as the county prepares for a storm. According to a news release, the theme park made the decision due to heavy rain and strong winds that could sweep through San Diego. The park plans to re-open Friday, November 30. Showers are expected to develop Wednesday night, becoming widespread and heavier by Thursday. Rainfall totals are expected to average between .50” to 1.50” for the coast and valleys with 2” to 4” in the mountains and .50” in the deserts. Strong winds will also accompany the storm. A wind advisory is in effect for the coast and valleys Thursday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. and for the mountains and deserts from 6 a.m. Thursday through 6 a.m. Friday. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- San Diego’s City Council voted 6-3 Monday evening to approve a five-year lease extension for the Campland on the Bay campground. The city struck a deal with Campland to expand into De Anza Cove and remove the crumbling mobile home park. Earlier in the day Monday, competing rallies took place outside council chambers. The issue on the agenda Monday – the future of about 75 acres on the northwest portion of Mission Bay. Currently, it’s an RV Park next to a mobile home park crumbling with asbestos and warning signs keeping the public out. The operator of the RV park is terminating its lease later in June. Campland on the Bay has operated for 50 years just to the west. It’s offering to take over the lease for the RV park and add the mobile home park for five years. It would do ,000,000 of improvements, including getting rid of old homes. A group called the ReWild Mission Bay Coalition is fighting back. The coalition wants the city to pursue restoring the area to its natural habitat, fearing that entering into what’s supposed to be a temporary arrangement could end up becoming a long-tern solution. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- San Diego’s Planning Commission met Thursday to discuss potential new rules that would help regulate the short-term rental industry in the city.A plan proposed by City Councilmember Jennifer Campbell was first introduced in July after a compromise was reached among members of the hospitality industry and short-term rental companies.The plan would implement tighter restrictions such as capping the number of short-term rental permits that are granted. There are also plans to require a two-night minimum stay to avoid one-night stays that are often connected to big parties that concerns residents.A representative for Campbell says implementing tighter regulations will help law enforcement address any problems that may arise.The proposed plan creates penalties and fines for those who violate the city’s “good neighbor” policy.More than 500 people signed up to voice their opinion about this proposal during Thursday’s virtual meeting.One caller said, “We depend on this for our livelihood, especially since the pandemic has taken a toll on us already. Without having the ability to host, many of us will be forced to leave our homes.”Another caller added, “This has been an issue for years. It’s now time to act and bring it to a close.”The next step will be to send the proposal to the full City Council for review. 1350

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — San Diego State University's effort to construct a new stadium in Mission Valley received a massive backing Thursday.SDSU officials announced a -million donation on behalf of local philanthropist Dianne Bashor. The gift is the lead donation toward the stadium project and one of the single largest ever made to the school, officials said."I think the students and people of San Diego benefit from everything we do with this property," Basher said during a press conference Thursday. "My husband and I always felt when we get things, we give things. According to the state’s guidelines, salons can reopen but they cannot offer any chemical-related treatments and cannot shampoo customers.“At first, I was trying to be optimistic; you know, giving our industry a way out to come back … but after they dropped the bomb that it’s only haircuts. Reality sets in, and there’s absolutely no way people are going to make ends meet,” she said.McKesson told ABC 10News the guidelines cuts what she believes are essential to the salon experience.She added, “You go to a salon for a certain experience and you’re going to sit and get sprayed down in 100-degree weather. There’s no way.”McKesson is also concerned about the space to operate outdoors, saying not many salons have patios and would have to move into parking spaces. She is similarly worried about the cleanliness of working outside.“It’s not sanitary. It’s not a controlled environment; sitting behind a chair is a controlled environment. I know it’s being cleaned and I know what’s being touched,” McKesson said.Several other salon owners around San Diego County told ABC 10News they are leaning towards not reopening because of the rules, which puts them in an already tough financial situation as they try to keep their businesses alive. 2021
