The Pentagon has sent more than 300,000 pounds of Thanksgiving food to US military troops stationed overseas and at the US southern border, the Defense Logistics Agency announced Tuesday. The shipments, which include 9,738 whole turkeys and 67,860 pounds of shrimp, were sent to dining facilities throughout the Middle East, Europe, Africa as well as field kitchens in Texas and Arizona."Many of America's military men and women are away from home this Thanksgiving, making sacrifices to secure our freedom and to protect our southern border," Army Brig. Gen. Mark Simerly said. "The DLA Troop Support staff and I are excited about this amazing opportunity to provide them the very best Thanksgiving meal our country has to offer."Among the staggering amounts of food the DLA is shipping are 74,036 pounds of beef, 21,758 pounds of ham and 7,836 gallons of eggnog.Logistics planning to feed troops on Thanksgiving begins in May, according to Deputy Director of DLA Troop Support Rich Faso."The Troop Support Subsistence team is a dedicated group of employees who take pride in ensuring that deployed service members can experience an enjoyable holiday meal each Thanksgiving," he said.President Donald Trump hailed the troops at the southern border as "tough people" during a press gaggle Tuesday when asked about their work on Thanksgiving."Oh, don't worry about the Thanksgiving," he said. "These are tough people, they know what they're doing and they're great and they've done a great job.""You're so worried about the Thanksgiving holiday for them. They are so proud to be representing our country on the border," he continued. In October, Trump assigned nearly 6,000 troops to the US-Mexico border to deal with a migrant caravan heading toward the US through Mexico. Many in the group reportedly plan to follow legal procedures and seek asylum. 1866

The Los Angeles County District Attorney is reviewing a sex crimes case against Kevin Spacey, officials tell CNN.The case was presented to prosecutors on April 5 by the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, according to a spokesperson for the Los Angeles District Attorney. No additional information was made available. An attorney for Spacey did not immediately return CNN's request for comment. The news comes nearly six months after Spacey was accused of making a sexual advance on actor Anthony Rapp when Rapp was only 14.Rapp, now 46, shared his account of the alleged 1986 incident?with a then-26-year-old Spacey in an interview with Buzzfeed back in October. In response to the allegations, Spacey tweeted that he was "beyond horrified to hear [Rapp's] story," adding that he did not remember the encounter."But if I did behave then as he describes, I owe him the sincerest apology for what would have been deeply inappropriate drunken behavior, and I am sorry for the feelings he describes having carried with him all these years," Spacey added.Days later, members of the "House of Cards" production staff detailed sexual harassment and an alleged instance of sexual assault to CNN.A former TV news anchor also came forward?with an allegation that Spacey sexually assaulted her son in 2016.An attorney for Spacey did not respond to CNN's request for comment at the time.Netflix?cut ties?with Spacey as a result of the allegations, a move that cost the streaming service roughly million. The next season of "House of Cards" was delayed, and now is set to debut in fall, with Robin Wright leading the cast.In London, 20 allegations of inappropriate behavior by Spacey were unearthed during an investigation commissioned by officials at The Old Vic Theatre, where Spacey served as artistic director from 2004-15.The Old Vic said the allegations spanned from 1995 to 2013, with most of the claims taking place before 2009. The theater added that it had not been possible to verify any of the allegations.Spacey sought unspecified treatment following the allegations made by Rapp, but has not made a public appearance since. 2182

The number of Americans applying for unemployment benefits fell last week to a still-high 712,000, the latest sign that the U.S. economy and job market remain under stress from the intensified viral outbreak. Thursday’s report from the Labor Department said that initial claims for jobless aid dropped from 787,000 the week before. Before the virus paralyzed the economy in March, the number of people applying for unemployment benefits each week had typically amounted to roughly 225,000. The chronically high pace of applications shows that nearly nine months after the pandemic struck, many employers are still slashing jobs. 636

The Olmsted Locks and Dam project, located on the Ohio River between Illinois and Kentucky, has taken 30 years and billion to complete.  But after three decades, the project is slated to be operational in October. The engineers and workers behind the development say the investment is worth it."The Ohio flows into the Mississippi 16 miles downriver from us, and then it's open passage all the way down to New Orleans and into the ocean,” explains Mick Awbreyk, the Army Corps of Engineers deputy chief for the Olmsted Division. “There is no locks and dams from the Olmsted to the ocean."He says the innovative details that went into the project are “phenomenal and truly world class.”Awbreyk will see the opening of the project, which began in 1988.So, why has it taken so long to complete?“The nature of the project; a lot of different things have led to the duration,” explains Awbreyk of the timeline. “One: it hasn't been fully funded until calendar 2013, fiscal years 2014 and that’s the nature of civil works projects."The dam crosses one of the busiest shipping lanes in the United States. Awbreyk says about 91 million tons of goods on average come through the area per year.“The equivalent of 25,000 semi-trucks worth of cargo passes through this site every year,” says Awbreyk. “You can imagine the wear and tear on the interstates and the highways that would have an extra 25,000 vehicles that will be on there per day."The project's price tag has grown to around billion. Workers here say it's money Americans will see come back to them."It’s widely important. The return on investment on this particular project is 0 million per year to the nation,” says Awbreyk. “That’s a net number, so ultimately it’s a little under a billion price tag; it will pay for itself in five years.” 1817

The long-running tv series “COPS” is filming again, however viewers in the US may not get to see the episodes.Last week, the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office said two “COPS” film crews were riding with their deputies in September and will be with them through the first week of November.“We have a longstanding relationship with COPS and Langley productions, and we are pleased they have decided to return, highlighting the outstanding work our Deputies provide to all of you,” the statement from the sheriff’s office said.“They show the hard work and professionalism of law enforcement, despite what some anti-law enforcement activists and those in the media want you to believe,” Sheriff’s Ozzie D. Knezovich is quoted as saying in the release about “COPS”.The show was canceled on Paramount Network in early June, as demonstrations focused on police tactics and violence against Black people grew in several cities following the deaths of Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery and George Floyd, among others.“Cops’ is not on the Paramount Network and we don’t have any current or future plans for it to return,” a Paramount Network spokesperson said in a statement to Variety in June. The new episodes being filmed in Spokane are likely destined for foreign markets. A spokesperson from Langley Productions told The Hollywood Reporter that the episodes being filmed now are to fulfill commitments in international territories where “COPS” still airs. There is no update on the “COPS” website or social media channels.“COPS” began its run on the fledgling FOX network in 1989, being a huge boon for the young network. The program was unique for embedding cameras within police departments, showing the work of officers throughout the US.But FOX dropped the program amid declining ratings, and was later picked up by Spike, which was later renamed Paramount Network. 1864
