A fire broke out at Trump Tower on Saturday, leaving one man dead and six firefighters injured, the New York City Fire Department said.Police identified the man killed as Todd Brassner, 67, a resident of the building's 50th floor. A California police officer was charged Wednesday in connection with a fatal shooting at an Oakland-area Walmart store in April.San Leandro Police Officer Jason Fletcher was charged with voluntary manslaughter in connection with an incident where he fatally shot 33-year-old Steven Taylor on April 18.According to the Alameda County District Attorney's office, a security guard at the store called police when Taylor tried to leave San Leandro Walmart with a baseball bat and a tent without paying.Fletcher responded to the call and approached Taylor as he entered the store. The officer tried to grab the baseball bat from Taylor, and when he couldn't get control of the bat he drew his stun gun.After firing the stun gun, Taylor stumbled forward with the bat sitll in his hand. According to body camera footage, Fletcher repeatedly asked Taylor to drop the bat. Fletcher then fired his gun once, a shot that proved to be fatal.In its charging statement, the District Attorney's office, claimed that Taylor "posed no threat of imminent deadly force or serious bodily injury" to the officers or anyone else in the store because he had "clearly experienced the shock of the taser as he was leaning forward over his feet and stumbling forward."Fletcher's lawyer, Michael Rains, told the San Francisco Chronicle that he was "very disappointed" that the officer had been charged and that the charges were "undeserved."The decision to file the criminal complaint was made after an intensive investigation and thorough analysis of the evidence and the current law," Alameda County District Attorney Nancy O'Malley said.Lee Merritt, an attorney for Taylor's family, told NBC News that Taylor was experiencing a mental health crisis at the time of the shooting.Fletcher will be arraigned on Sept. 15 at a county courthouse in Dublin, California. 1845

A disturbing trend is developing across the U.S. regarding vehicles striking Black Lives Matter protesters.Just since the grand jury announced its decision in the Breonna Taylor case on Wednesday, vehicles have driven through protests in at least three cities: Denver, Buffalo and Los Angeles.Wednesday night, hours after it was revealed that the police officers who shot the 26-year-old EMT would not be charged for her killing, a man drove his car through a crowd of demonstrators calling for justice outside the Colorado State Capitol in Denver. The driver was detained.That same night, a protester was struck by a truck in Buffalo’s Niagara Square, sending her to the hospital with broken bones. In that case, authorities have arrested the driver on charges of reckless endangerment and reckless driving.And most recently, multiple vehicles drove through a protest in Hollywood Thursday night, one of which struck and injured a person. That victim was transported to an area hospital with minor injuries, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.LAPD says a group of more than 300 protesters were marching near Sunset Boulevard when a blue pick-up truck maneuvered through the crowd and became involved in an altercation shortly after 9 p.m. As the driver of the truck attempted to get away from the situation, police say the vehicle struck a protester standing in the street.Moments later, police say a white Prius attempted to drive around the same protest and also became involved in an altercation with people in the crowd.“A black pick-up truck leading the protests accelerated and pinned that white Prius in, forcing it to come to a stop,” wrote police in a statement. “The driver of the Prius attempted to flee the area and reversed into a green mustang behind it. That vehicle was also participating in the protest.”Police say both the drivers of the truck and Mustang attempted to extract the driver of the Prius from the vehicle, but that driver was able to get away. Several blocks away, that motorist was detained by Hollywood officers, according to police.All the drivers and victims involved in both altercations have been identified by Hollywood officers and an investigation is ongoing.Protests are expected to continue throughout the coming days as people demand justice in the Breonna Taylor case.On Wednesday, the Kentucky grand jury indicted one of the three Louisville police officers who entered Taylor's apartment in March and fatally shot the emergency medical technician. However, the indicted officer isn’t being charged in connection with Taylor’s killing, he’s being charged with wanton endangerment for shots fired into her neighbor’s apartment. A brawl broke out during a sentencing Wednesday afternoon of a former daycare owner accused of reckless homicide in the death of a 7-week-old baby in her care.37-year-old Claudette Mitchell was being sentenced for charges related to the death of a 2-month-old child that died while in Mitchell's care last August at "WHO'S LUVIN YOU" daycare. Mitchell ran the daycare out of her home on Milwaukee's northside. A criminal complaint says Mitchell told police she put the baby down for a nap and when she checked on her about an hour later she was unresponsive and had scratches and blood on her face. Court documents show the baby suffered multiple fractures to her skull and bruising all over her body. Forensic investigators believe the baby died of blunt force trauma to the head.  Mitchell received a sentence of 42 months, and upon release, 48 months of supervision. Following the sentencing, an altercation broke out between 50 members of Mitchell's and the victim's families and friends according to the Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office.Additional deputies and district attorney investigators were called to the room to restore order. Authorities say additional security had been in place prior to the altercation but Mitchell's loved ones did not comply with deputies’ orders to remain in the courtroom while the victim’s family was being escorted out. 1407
