SUNSET CLIFFS, Calif., (KGTV) - There are mounting concerns about the stability of the some of the bluffs at Sunset Cliffs. The City of San Diego was tipped off about the cliff collapse near Hill Street last week. City crews surveyed the collapse then cordoned it off with yellow caution tape to discourage people from getting to close to the section in question. The city says the collapses are likely from rain. “There is a big crack there right up against the edge where it looks like that’s the next piece that’s going to fall,” said photographer Jim Grant, “it’s a good thing that somebody came in and put some protection up.” Grant spends nearly everyday photographing the cliffs and says he has seen his fair share of people getting too close. “They don’t realize that one slip and when you fall 60 or 70 feet, it leaves a permanent mark that’s for sure,” added Grant. Officials urge people to avoid the section that has collapsed and to always use caution when traversing through Sunset Cliffs. The city says it will have its engineers evaluate the section after this weekend’s weather before determining what steps to take next. 1145

Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg held a special place in the hearts of many.“The Jewish community mourning her loss, I think it’s universal,” Temple Emanuel's Senior Rabbi Joseph Black said.Rabbi Joseph Black is the senior rabbi at Temple Emanuel in Denver, Colorado. He says the timing of her death was very significant for people of the Jewish faith.“There’s a midrash. There’s a rabbinic saying that if you die just before Rosh Hashanah, which she did. She died the last day of the year. Literally, it means that you’re a very righteous person, that God waited until the very last moment to take you from the world,” Rabbi Black explained.Rabbi Black says Rosh Hashanah is the Jewish New Year. It is recognized as the start of the 10 holiest days of the year when people reflect on their sins and how they can make the world a better place.“Everybody went into this sacred, holy day with a sense of loss," he said.Rabbi Black says RBG and her role in the country’s democracy have been significant to the Jewish community for years.“She was the first Jewish woman Supreme Court Justice," Rabbi Black said. "She was proud of her faith. While she wasn’t a deeply religious person, her Judaism, I do believe, instructed all that she did.”He says justice is an essential part of Judaism.“In Deuteronomy chapter 16, the words in Hebrew 'Tzedek Tzedek Tirdof, or Justice Justice Shall You Pursue' were literally inscribed on Justice Ginsburg’s chambers. She had artwork that said that. And I believe that she embodied that phrase.”Being raised in a Jewish neighborhood with immigrant parents, Rabbi Black says he believes that’s a big reason why she was such a big supporter of minority rights.“She was the voice of the voiceless," Rabbi Black said, "She spoke out for, regardless of who you were -- gender, sexual orientation, religious belief, economic status--she believed strongly in equality and in justice. She argued before she was a Supreme Justice five times on women’s rights issues.”Justice Ginsburg’s impact started way before she took one of the coveted nine spots on the Supreme Court. “She was a member of our Kappa chapter at Cornell University where she actually served as President of the chapter,” said Bonnie Wunsch, executive director of Alpha Epsilon Phi Sorority, the sorority RBG was a part of. Alpha Epsilon Phi was founded by seven Jewish women in 1909 who were unable to join other sororities on their campus. Justice Ginsburg was a part of the sisterhood from the early-to-mid 1950s."We stand for leadership and empowerment and development of women in all areas. And what RBG stood for is exactly the values that all sororities, not just AEPhi, are founded upon."Wunsch says the sorority is proud to call her a sister.“She really made a difference," Wunsch said. "She showed that we could do whatever we wanted to do as women, as mothers, and as Jews in the community.”Both Rabbi Black and Wunsch say they agree Ginsburg taught us the importance of the pursuit of justice, and how to fight for the rights of the oppressed, lessons we can carry on through her legacy.“She represented the best of the best," Rabbi Black said. The Barron County Sheriff said the possible sighting of a missing and endangered Wisconsin teen in Miami, Florida doesn't appear to be credible. An AMBER Alert was issued Monday afternoon for 13-year-old Jayme Closs after her parents were found dead in their home. Gas station surveillance video from Miami shows the girl a witness thought to be Jayme. The FBI has yet to confirm it was. Barron County Sheriff Chris Fitzgerald indicated Tuesday it isn't credible. A witness claims to have seen Jayme inside this black SUV with Wisconsin plates Monday afternoon at a Miami gas station. That's 1,700 miles away from where Jayme's last confirmed sighting Sunday afternoon in her hometown. Surveillance video briefly shows a teenage girl sitting in the front passenger seat as the driver pulled up to a gas pump. She doesn't appear to be restrained at the time. Moments before, a man got out of that same vehicle and walked up to another SUV and a truck to talk with others. Miami police shared the possible sighting via social media on Monday night. "We are actively researching that tip," said Fitzgerald. Fitzgerald appeared frustrated at news conference Tuesday that Miami police released information about a possible tip. "Every tip continues to be followed up on and if it's something we need to get out to you, you will get that information and it will come directly from me out to you," Fitzgerald said. Authorities were first alerted to Jayme's disappearance early Monday morning when a 911 call led sheriff's deputies to her home in Barron. Jayme's parents were found shot to death. Fitzgerald is asking Barron County residents to keep an eye out for others acting out of character. He said they've questioned a lot of people while following up on tips, however Jayme is still believed to be missing and in danger. 1883

Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito has ordered county elections officials in Pennsylvania to keep separate mail-in ballots that arrived after Election Day. The state’s top elections official already had ordered those ballots be kept apart.The order came Friday night in response to a plea from the state Republican Party as Democrat Joe Biden inched ahead of President Donald Trump in Pennsylvania in the presidential race.Alito, acting on his own, said he was motivated in part by the Republicans’ assertion that they can’t be sure elections officials are complying with guidance issued by Pennsylvania Secretary of State Kathy Boockvar, a Democrat.The justice handles emergency appeals from Pennsylvania. He ordered a response from the state by Saturday afternoon and said he has referred the matter to the full court for further action.The order is related to an ongoing Republican appeal to the Supreme Court to try to keep ballots received in the mail after Election Day from being counted.
