Another clip shows a woman being carried away as a crowd shouts that she's been shot. The protests came after Iran belatedly acknowledged accidentally shooting down a passenger plane and killing scores of Iranians at a time of soaring tensions with the United States.It remains to be seen whether the plane tragedy will generate large, sustained demonstrations. Even if it does, Iran's Revolutionary Guard has decades of experience in crushing dissent. Iranians have risen up in several waves of protests since the 1979 Islamic Revolution, all of which have been crushed by security forces loyal to the theocratic government. The Northern California town of Guerneville has been turned into an island as the Russian River has risen over 45 feet.The river crested 45.31 feet Wednesday night, Sonoma County Emergency Operation Center spokesman Barry Dugan said, after rising steadily for two days and leaving the community with 4,500 residents isolated.Their homes surrounded by flood waters, they have been moving around on kayaks and canoes."The roadways leading into the town along the river and across the river have been cut off by the rising floodwaters," Sonoma County emergency manager Chris Godley said.Dugan said roughly 2,000 homes and buildings have flooded to some degree. The House will vote Tuesday on a resolution allowing the House Judiciary Committee -- and other House panels in the future -- to enforce its subpoenas in the courts, though House Democrats aren't yet holding those who have defied subpoenas in contempt of Congress.The vote comes a day after House Judiciary Chairman Jerry Nadler announced he had struck a deal with the Justice Department to provide some documents from the Mueller report to the Judiciary Committee.The resolution includes language authorizing the Judiciary panel to go to court to force Attorney General William Barr and former White House counsel Don McGahn to comply with their subpoenas, but Monday's agreement means that Nadler won't take any court action against Barr -- at least for now.And the House is not moving forward with a criminal contempt citation against either Barr or McGahn, as the resolution is only focused on civil court action to enforce House subpoenas.In addition to the subpoenas for Barr and McGahn, the resolution also authorizes the House to sue to obtain grand jury information from the Mueller report, which requires a court order to release.
