TIJUANA, Mexico. (KGTV and AP) -- At least three people were killed in wind-driven fires that scorched a large swath of Baja, California last week, the Associated Press reports. Last Friday, Mexico’s civil defense told AP the fires forced more than 1,600 people to evacuate their homes. The fires burned near Tecate, Tijuana and between the coastal towns of Rosarito and Ensenada. The fire near Tecate burned more than 35,000 acres, according to AP. Schools were also shut down in Tijuana, Tecate and Rosarito due to heavy smoke in the area. Mexican officials told CNN the fire tore through 125 homes, 30 of which are in the city of Tijuana. Anna Gloria Rodriguez showed a growing pile of donations in her office Wednesday. “Furniture, some blankets and pillows,” Rodriguez said. Rodriguez is part of the Kumeyaay Nation and is heading up the effort to collect donations to bring to her family across the border. “The Kumeyaay Nation has people on both sides of the border. We have family in all the communities,” she continued. “The whole big mountains already burned but still one part on fire, so there was a lot of people in the community trying to put dirt and water.”While her family and many others are safe, the fires left some without electricity or easy access to clean water or food. He is now working with his bank to repair the fraud charges.Easy to believe the caller's claimsLast year, one church almost lost ,000.Donald Kincaid is an Episcopal church groundskeeeper. He was shocked when he received a call from the power company claiming the church had fallen behind on its electric bill."The caller said that the gas and electric would be cut off in about a half an hour because the bill hadn't been paid," he said.The caller couldn't have been more clear. THORNTON, Colorado – The three victims of Wednesday’s shooting at a Thornton Walmart were identified Thursday afternoon by the coroner’s office for Adams and Broomfield counties.They are 52-year-old Pamela Marques of Denver, 66-year-old Carlos Moreno of Thornton, and 26-year-old Victor Vasquez of Denver.Carlos Moreno was a structural trades technician at the Auraria Higher Education Center in Denver, the campus confirmed to Denver7 television station. Family members of Moreno’s also wrote on Facebook that he had been killed.“I am in shock,” wrote a niece of his. “Please keep his wife and kids in your prayers. This is such a great loss to our family.”His cousin wrote on Facebook: “Carlos was a good husband, father, grandfather, cousin, friend man. I am blessed to have had you in my life. Please pray for the family.”Victor Vasquez was a father of two young girls and had another child on the way, according to his fiancé and a GoFundMe page started by a family friend.His fiancé told Denver7 she was “completely distraught” by Vasquez’s death.Police arrested 47-year-old Scott Ostrem Thursday morning in connection to the shooting.
