You might know the word "ghosting" in regards to dating. It’s usually when someone you’re talking to just disappears and stops communicating. Well, now it's happening during the job process, and people who do it may be paying a price they don't realize.In this hot of a job market, people are ghosting each other left and right. Karen Policastro with recruiting firm Robert Half says potential employers are not showing up for interviews, phone calls or work.Former hiring manager Craig Commings says he’s gotten used to new hires not showing up for the job."It was probably one-third of the time they showed up and two-thirds of the time they didn't," Commings says.A recent survey by Robert Half says 28 percent of people backed out of a job offer. They said it was because they received a better offer from another company.Ghosting is happening more to employers during the hiring process. Policastro says it may seem easier to avoid an awkward situation, but honesty is the best policy.Policastro says, at minimum, send an email updating them on your status. Then tell them, "thank you for the offer, but I have to turn it down."Experts suggest leveraging the better job."You never know when they may come back and say, 'I understand that you have a job offer, let’s see if we can up the ante,' " Policastro says.Job seeker Evan Piedrahita has the right idea, too. "If I got a better offer I would probably email them, let them know and give them a chance trying to increase the salary, benefits and see if they can match that," Piedrahita says.But ghosting works both ways. Job seeker Joshua Curry thought he made a good impression during an interview. But the potential employer never called him back."If I follow-up with an email, I usually get a response. But if I'm calling, not really," Curry says. NATIONAL CITY, Calif. (KGTV) -- Three people were injured after a car slammed into a National City restaurant Tuesday afternoon. The crash happened on the 1000 block of Highland Avenue in National City at the Pho 7 Cow restaurant around 2 p.m.An employee of a nearby jewelry store said scene was chaotic, describing the vehicle as going all the way into the building. Their condition is unknown at this time, but a witness said they didn’t appear serious. Roughly 20 people were eating lunch when the car crashed into the front of the restaurant, according to the owner. Surveillance video from inside the restaurant shows the car plow through the front and into a large aquarium near the door. 10News learned all of the fish inside the aquarium died.The owner said the woman driving the car may have accidentally pushed the gas instead of the brake. Inspectors from the city and fire department arrived shortly after the crash to check out the building. The owner was told the structure is sound. With Washington a little more than 24 hours away from a partial government shutdown, the House of Representatives on Thursday passed a spending bill that includes an additional billion for President Donald Trump's long-promised border wall. The vote was 217-185.The billion is in line with what the President has requested of Congress, but passage of the measure doesn't appear to have moved Washington any closer to averting a shutdown at the end of the week.That's because the bill next heads to the Senate, where it is expected to be dead on arrival due to opposition over the border wall money.Democrats have already made clear they will not support billion for the wall, and any spending measure would need bipartisan support to pass in the Senate.The question now is whether a partial shutdown can still be averted. Funding will expire for several key government agencies at midnight on Friday. If the deadline is not extended, those agencies will shutter just days before Christmas.Just a day ago, lawmakers had appeared on track to stave off a shutdown after the Senate passed its stopgap funding bill with top congressional Republicans signaling that they expected the President to sign the measure.But the outlook changed drastically on Thursday as Trump ratcheted up his rhetoric and suggested again that he is not willing to accept anything less than his billion demand.House GOP leaders had emerged from a meeting with the President at the White House earlier in the day saying that Trump had told them he would not accept the stopgap measure passed by the Senate, which did not include the border wall funding he wanted.That news threw many lawmakers into a tailspin as confusion and uncertainty over what would happen next dominated the day on Capitol Hill.Rep.
