China has set a date for a new round of talks with the United States aimed at ending a trade war that is spooking global markets and hurting businesses.China's Commerce Ministry said Friday that US deputy trade representative Jeffrey Gerrish would hold negotiations with Chinese officials on January 7-8 in Beijing. The White House is yet to confirm the talks. The office of the United States Trade Representative also released a statement Friday announcing the delegation that would be representing the US.In addition to Gerrish, the official delegation will also include David Malpass, the Treasury Department's undersecretary for international affairs. Also set to travel are USTR's chief agricultural negotiator Gregg Doud; the Department of Agriculture's under secretary for trade and foreign agricultural affairs Ted McKinney; Commerce Department undersecretary for international trade Gilbert Kaplan and the Energy Department's assistant secretary for fossil energy Steven Winberg. When asked whether negotiations would be impacted by the ongoing government shutdown, which touches USTR as well as other departments involved, a spokesperson referred to a December statement in which USTR said trade negotiations would continue under existing funds. The upcoming talks will be the first formal negotiations on trade between the world's two biggest economies since President Donald Trump and his Chinese counterpart, Xi Jinping, agreed to a 1455

COPENHAGEN, Denmark — Max von Sydow, the self-described “shy boy”-turned-actor who played the priest in the horror classic “The Exorcist,” has died. He was 90. He was known to art house audiences through his work with Swedish director Ingmar Bergman. But it was his role as the devil-evicting priest in William Friedkin's controversial 1973 film "The Exorcist" that brought him to international attention. His agent said the actor, who was born in Sweden but became a French citizen in 2002, died Sunday. From his 1949 screen debut, von Sydow starred in close to 200 film and TV productions, remaining active well into his 80s. 639

CORNING, Mo. — As the cleanup along the Missouri River continues following significant flooding last month, several communities are finally seeing what the floodwaters left behind.Flooding ravaged farmers along the Missouri Bottoms, including 71-year-old Bruce Biermann’s farm in Corning, Missouri. The fourth-generation farmer surveyed his farm on Wednesday. He said two grain bins containing corn and soybeans were destroyed. The strong current washed the bins into his front yard and even into neighboring fields.“They are now deteriorating, rotting, swelling up and sprouting,” Biermann said.He stored the grain because it was a down year for market value on the crops. He was hoping to sell when prices increased.“This year it wasn’t as attractive as we needed it or what we would have liked for it to be, but we needed to start moving grain,” he said.He learned a hard lesson: all of his grain is now ruined and will not be covered by insurance because stored crops aren’t covered under federal law.“All this would have to come out of our pocket, along with the loss of income from the grain that has no market value left whatsoever now,” Biermann said. The financial damage totals around 0,000 in lost grain.“That money was supposed to go ahead and help me finance and do my farming for 2019,” he said.Biermann won’t be in the fields this year. Over his 71 years, he said he's been through a lot of floods, but this one might be his last. With the possibility of more flooding on the way, Biermann hopes lawmakers make changes soon to help farmers in these situations. 1586

Ellie Kemper doesn't want to call the ending of "Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt" "bittersweet."The star told CNN the show wrapped filming at the end of June."We were filming the fourth season and we found out as we were filming it that it would be the final season," Kemper said. "In streaming age, that is actually like a fully lived life and feels like we had a lot of episodes given the world we live in now. But it still felt sad because I love these characters, I love the people I get to work with and so it's just a little bit of a loss."The second half of the show's fourth season starts streaming on Netflix in January. The new episodes will serve as the swan song for the quirky comedy about a woman trying to make her way in the real world after being held captive for years with a group of others in a bunker. It's clear that Kemper has a lot of affection for the character of Kimmy Schmidt, which she took on after the role that launched her to fame as receptionist Erin Hannon in "The Office."The actress is proud of the work she and her co-stars have done on "Unbreakable," even as she mourns its ending."I am so happy with how these stories ended," Kemper said. "Every character sort of finishes his or her journey in a really satisfying way. That felt really nice to leave on that note."Production on the series ended over the summer."It feels like we wrapped a long time ago, which is why I'm so excited for these episodes to come out in January, because I feel like I haven't seen them yet," Kemper said. "It almost feels like a lifetime ago that we finished, so I feel comforted it's going to be back in the world."This season hilariously sends up some timely topics, including the #MeToo movement.Kemper said she believes "it's great that everyone can have their voice be heard in this day and age" and said she doesn't think the show goes too far with the sensitive topic."I think that comedy is great way of dealing with the tough stuff," Kemper said. "[Showrunners] Robert [Carlock] and Tina [Fey] have been doing that so brilliantly all their careers."It's all treated intelligently, Kemper said, even as it's played for laughs. So, what about the speculation that an "Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt" movie could be in the works?"I know as much as you do," Kemper said. "I've seen rumors online and I hope that it comes true. I don't know anything beyond that."And how about an "Office" reunion?"Oh, I would, but I don't know if everyone else would," said Kemper, who added that she is still working on what her next project might be. "Are you kidding? I would do it yesterday."The final episodes of "Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt" start streaming January 25 on Netflix.The-CNN-Wire? & ? 2018 Cable News Network, Inc., a Time Warner Company.
