JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The person who was announcing Sunday's video game tournament in Jacksonville said he was just a few feet from the fatal shooting that took the lives of two men.  MORE: Treasure Coast teacher hurt in shooting | Audio of the shooting | What are eSports? | Photos | List of rampage killings since 1949The announcer, Toshiba Sharon, wasn't scheduled to work but was filling-in for another person when the gunman attacked. “I was right there. It was right in front of me. I actually saw the two people that were killed," said Sharon. The victims were identified as 22-year-old Eli Clayton and 27-year-old Taylor Robertson.“I worked my way outside and saw the young man, Taylor Robertson, and he was lying there face down, and we rolled him over to see if he was still alive. I think I witnessed him breathing his last breath," said Sharon.Sharon has been a part of the gaming community for years and heartbroken by the tragedy.“They're kids. They're kids having fun, kids doing what they love to do. They're parents having fun, they're you, they're me, they're everybody. It’s just kids playing a game, nothing more than that,” said Sharon. He has a message for those who lost their loved ones while they were supposed to be just having fun.“They didn't die alone. They died with a brotherhood. They died doing something they love to do, and their memory doesn't die. We're going through this every couple of months. Let's not go through this anymore,” said Sharon. He said he doesn't have all the answers, but says we need to do better to really listen to one another.  1641

KIRKWOOD, Calif. -- A 7-year-old boy and his mother were killed when a massive block of snow fell from a roof several feet from the front door of the condo they were staying in Monday. The Alpine County Sheriff’s Department said 50-year-old Olga Perkovic and her son, Aaron Goodstein were returning to the condo after skiing when a trailer-sized block of snow collapsed onto them.Rescuers held an hours-long search at the nearby Kirkwood Ski Resort because the two had boarded a lift in the afternoon.    RELATED: San Diego native who survived NorCal avalanche thanks rescuers? The mother and son were found beneath three feet of snow after a neighbor saw ski gloves nearby. The pair mark the third and fourth skiers to die at California resorts since a powerful snowstorm struck last week.A snowboarder died after falling head first into a deep powder and suffocating at the China Peak resort.Similarly, a snowboarder was found dead Friday after being reported missing during a blizzard at Squaw Valley. The heavy snow also caused an avalanche in Squaw Valley that buried five people. Two of those people had to be taken to the hospital due to their injuries. 1186

Karen Mallard, a Virginia teacher who is also one of many Democrats challenging Rep. Scott Taylor for seat representing Virginia's second district, recently posted a video of her sawing an AR-15 apart. She said she did it to take a "a personal stand for gun safety," and is not backing down."We own the gun so we destroyed it and took it straight to the police department and dropped it off. I wanted there to be one less gun and to do something about gun violence," said Mallard. The video has been viewed more than a million times on her Facebook page. It's also drawing a lot of negative comments. Some people are saying destroying the rifle won't keep students safe. Some are saying what Mallard did was illegal."It is all to intimidate me and I will not be intimated. And I'm going to fight gun reform, for our children and for our community," said Mallard."Sawing off the end of a rifle barrel would probably not destroy it," said Virginia attorney Eric Lockie. "But if it shortened the barrel to under 16 inches, sawing off the end would make it immediately illegal and it`s a very bad idea.""I knew exactly what I was doing," Mallard said. "The gun was inoperable before I cut it. And we took it completely apart. And we didn't put all that on video because I wanted to get the message to the students that I was standing with them."Virginia Beach Police confirmed Thursday afternoon the gun was in their possession and waiting to be picked up by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.The-CNN-Wire? & ? 2018 Cable News Network, Inc., a Time Warner Company. Jake, a coonhound, wandered a long way from his Arizona home -- more than 2,000 miles to be exact."We are just really baffled by it," said Renae Metz with A Darrah Bull Bully Rescue in Pennsylvania.A good Samaritan found the 7-year-old dog near a YMCA in Roaring Spring, Pennsylvania about 100 miles east of Pittsburgh. When they scanned him for a microchip, they found one, and it came back registered to Phoenix."We thought maybe a truck driver possibly found Jake in the middle of the night and didn't know what to do with him and brought him home, but we don't know that that's a fact," Metz said. After finding the microchip, they made the phone call to Jake's owners."We have a 7-year-old coonhound here who is registered to you, are you missing your dog?" Metz asked the owners. It turns out they were, for the past year. Jake disappeared from their north Peoria home. Getting Jake back wouldn't be easy with a brand new baby, but Metz wasn't about to give up on getting the dog home."We have 20 different drivers, three overnights and a lot of stops for Jake," Metz laughed.Metz's sister is a transport coordinator for rescued animals. She used the power of Facebook to put out the call for help and arranged for his return. From Tennessee to Arkansas to Oklahoma to Texas and New Mexico, over the past three days, the volunteers took photos along the way. And then Monday afternoon, Jake was reunited with his owner in Holbrook. Click on the map below to follow the route the volunteers took to bring Jake home. Now Jake is back where he belongs and thanks to a lot of volunteers, pretty well-traveled.Metz said Companion Animal Hospital in Roaring Spring kept Jake from when he was found until he left for his trip home on Friday. A Darrah Bull Bully Rescue has set up a crowdfunding page to help Jake's owners with the expenses of boarding and treating him.  Click on the link to donate. 1947
