SAN DIEGO (CNS) - An alleged drunken driver accused of running over and fatally injuring a co-worker, who was trying to prevent her from driving home following a night out in Kearny Mesa, was charged Tuesday with murder, gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated and hit-and-run causing death. Latisha Ingram, 33, is accused in the death last Thursday night of 25- year-old Ha Minh Ta.Deputy District Attorney Phillippa Cunningham said Ingram was charged with second-degree murder because she has a 2010 DUI conviction in Orange County.According to the prosecutor, Ingram and Ta met up with other co-workers for after-dinner drinks and the defendant, ``against the advice of friends,'' decided to try and drive home.RELATED: San Diego police: Man run over, killed after argument in Kearny Mesa parking lotIngram got into an argument with Ta about 11:30 p.m. in a parking lot in the 4600 block of Convoy Street, and she allegedly started to drive away while he was still holding onto her car. Ingram drove out of the parking lot and turned southbound onto Convoy Street, where Ta let go and was run over by the defendant, San Diego police Officer Robert Heimsthe officer alleged.Paramedics rushed Ta to a hospital, where he died from his injuries. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A suspected drunken driver crashed into a house in the Miramar Ranch North area of San Diego Saturday morning and was hospitalized with life threatening injuries.The man was driving his 2014 Hyundai eastbound in the 11700 block of Cypress Canyon Road when he made a left turn onto the 11500 block of Sun Ray Court about 12:30 a.m., according to Officer Robert Heims of the San Diego Police Department."As (the driver) was turning, he made an unsafe movement to his left, lost control and crashed into a house," Heims said.The driver was taken to a hospital with major head and face injuries, considered to be life threatening, Heims said.DUI was suspected and the crash was being investigated by SDPD Traffic Division.The name of the driver was not disclosed.No other injuries were reported. 817

SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A motorcyclist died Sunday in a head-on collision with a truck in the San Pasqual neighborhood, police said.The accident happened at 1:41 p.m. when a 65-year-old man riding a 2020 Harley Davidson motorcycle traveling east in the 18000 block of San Pasqual Valley Road crossed over the double yellow line and hit a 1997 Ford 250 driven by an 88-year-old man traveling west, according to Officer John Buttle of the San Diego Police Department.The motorcyclist died and the driver of the Ford and his passenger were taken to the hospital.Traffic Division is investigating the collision. 609

SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Eight more flu deaths were reported last week in the San Diego region, the county Health and Human Services Agency announced Wednesday.There were 264 lab-confirmed cases in total, a slight increase over the 257 cases reported the week of March 25. Emergency room visits by people with flu-like symptoms dropped from 3 percent to 2 percent over the same span, however.Overall, there have been 334 influenza-related deaths in San Diego County this season, compared to 82 during the same period last flu season.Victims have ranged in age from 1 to 101, and most had underlying medical conditions."Unfortunately, influenza-related deaths are still being reported, a sign that the flu continues to take a toll on the region," said Dr. Wilma Wooten, the county's public health officer . "While influenza activitypersists, people should continue taking precautions to avoid getting sick, especially getting vaccinated."The high number of deaths this season is related to unusually severe strains of the virus but also improved tracking by local medical communities, according to the county. Overall, there have been 20,404 lab-confirmed cases this season, compared to 5,292 cases this time last year.The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reminds people that it isn't too late to get vaccinated against the flu.
