NEW YORK, Sept. 23 (Xinhua) -- The foreign ministers of China and 42 African countries, or their representatives, held their second political consultation in New York on Thursday. The Chairperson of the African Union ( AU) Commission was invited to the consultation.The meeting was co-chaired by the People's Republic of China and the Arab Republic of Egypt, the two co-chair countries of FOCAC.The Chinese and African sides had an in-depth exchange of views on strengthening China-Africa cooperation in international affairs, making progress towards the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) and promoting peace and security in Africa. They reached the following consensus:1. The two sides applauded FOCAC's important role in guiding the comprehensive and fast growth of China-Africa friendship over the past 10 years since FOCAC's inception, and its contribution to South-South cooperation, common development and the building of a harmonious world. They reaffirmed the commitment of FOCAC member countries to improving the institutional building of FOCAC, strengthening practical cooperation in various areas within the FOCAC framework, enriching the Forum and promoting in-depth development of the new type of China-Africa strategic partnership.2. The two sides expressed satisfaction with the comprehensive implementation of the follow-up actions of the FOCAC Beijing Summit. They highly appreciated the fact that despite the adverse impact of the global financial crisis, the Chinese government announced new measures for enhancing China-Africa cooperation at the 4th FOCAC Ministerial Conference held in Sharm El Sheikh in 2009.

BEIJING, Sept. 7 (Xinhuanet) -- China will "vigorously" expand its imports of key products as the nation strives to cut its trade surplus amid growing protectionism against the world's largest exporter, a senior Chinese trade official said on Monday."We will especially encourage imports of products the nation is short of, especially advanced technology and key equipment," said Chong Quan, China's deputy international trade representative.Special attention will be paid to expanding imports from countries that China has a trade surplus with, he said at the China Import Forum organized by the Ministry of Commerce.Due to their domestic economic woes and political pressure, some developed countries, in particular the US, have accused China of piling up trade surpluses through policies such as an undervalued currency. This argument conveniently ignores other factors at play, such as their own export restrictions.Nonetheless, in the first six months of this year, US exports to China increased 35.7 percent year-on-year, 13 percentage points higher than its overall export growth, according to US figures.Despite the surge of its trade surplus in July, which stood at .7 billion, China will see the surplus drop dramatically for the year to about 0 billion, compared to 0 billion in 2009 and 0 billion in 2008, trade officials said. BEIJING, Oct. 21 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Foreign Ministry on Thursday confirmed it had started preparations for President Hu Jintao's visit to the United States early next year, which the ministry said would be profound and far-reaching for bilateral ties."China and the United States have maintained close communications about the visit, which will be very important and will bring far-reaching influence for bilateral relations in new era," spokesman Ma Zhaoxu told a regular press briefing.Although Hu's U.S. visit had long been under discussion, it was the first time that China's foreign ministry confirmed the visit and elaborated on its significance.Ma said both China and the United States would like to see a successful visit that will boost the positive, cooperative and comprehensive China-U.S. relationship in the 21st century.At their meeting on the sidelines of the G20 summit in Toronto in June, U.S. President Barack Obama formally invited Hu to pay a state visit to the United States early next year. BEIJING, Aug. 30 (Xinhua) -- Chinese President Hu Jintao held talks last Friday with top leader of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) Kim Jong Il in Changchun, capital city of northeast China' s Jilin Province.Kim, general secretary of the Worker' s Party of Korea (WPK) and chairman of the DPRK National Defense Commission, paid an unofficial visit to China from August 26 to 30 at the invitation of Hu, also general secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC).Hu said that at present, China and the DPRK are increasing vigorous exchange and cooperation in various fields, among various departments and between provinces along the borders.
