US President Donald Trump called Justin Trudeau "two-faced" Wednesday after Canada's Prime Minister was caught on camera appearing to joke about Trump with other world leaders at a Buckingham Palace event the night before."He's two-faced," Trump said, adding, "honestly with Trudeau, he's a nice guy."The video appeared to show British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, French President Emmanuel Macron, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte having a laugh about Trump's behavior during the summit. The 25-second clip, which has gone viral and was 592

WASHINGTON — Hiring jumped in February as employers added 273,000 jobs, evidence that the economy was in strong shape before the coronavirus began to sweep through the U.S. The Labor Department said Friday that the unemployment rate fell to 3.5%, matching a 50-year low, down from 3.6% in the previous month. The job gain comes from a survey of payrolls in the second week of February, so the healthy gains pre-date the viral outbreak. 447

WASHINGTON, D.C. — He’s a 250-pound four-year-old, heading for his homeland. For more than a week now, crowds have gathered at the National Zoo in Washington, D.C., to say bye-bye to Bei Bei.“He's captured our hearts for over four years and we want to say thank you for all the joy, smiles, happiness, laughter he's given us,” said Gena Kim, who flew in all the way from Los Angeles to see Bei Bei one last time.Bei Bei — a name that means “precious treasure” in Mandarin Chinese — embarked on a 16-hour flight back to China on Tuesday. It is part of an agreement between the zoo and the Chinese government. It’s something the panda keepers knew would happen one day, but still find tough to face.“There's the very professional side of me that's known from the moment he was born, per the loan agreement, that he has to return to China,” said National Zoo panda keeper Marty Dearie. “But the personal side of me, I know he's one of my favorite animals I've ever worked with.”Pandas in zoos around the world are — for all intents and purposes — on loan from China. The agreement between the National Zoo and China is part of a conservation program designed to save the giant panda, listed as "vulnerable" in the wild by the International Union for Conservation of Nature. The pandas are sent back to China to be reintroduced to the wild. In Washington, Bei Bei’s parents will stay for now. Their agreements are up next year.“They are on loan with us through December of next year, at which point there will be a renegotiation about what we're doing with those guys,” Dearie said.Other than the National Zoo, only two others in the U.S. have pandas: Atlanta and Memphis. The San Diego zoo’s pandas had to be returned to China in April when their agreement was not renewed by the Chinese government. Zoo officials there said the contract was up and the panda’s return had nothing to do with U.S.-China tensions over trade and tariffs.Back in the nation’s capital, panda fans hope Bei Bei’s parents, Mei Xiang and Tian Tian, get to stay in D.C. for years to come.“We're so attached to Mei Xiang and Tian Tian,” Kim said. “We really wish that they can stay longer here in Washington, D.C. because they're the power couple in D.C.”They are a power couple in a town that can, at times, be panda-monium. 2311

Winter is coming to the East Coast for the next week. The next five to seven days are going to bring unseasonably cold temperatures to the eastern two-thirds of the US, CNN meteorologist Derek Van Dam said. The cold front could bring below freezing temperatures to some places. The cold was already descending on New York early Friday morning, with wind chill expected to bring temperatures down to the upper teens to mid-20s, according to the National Weather Service. Wind gusts in Boston are reaching 25 to 35 mph and will bring temperatures to the 20s as well, the NWS said.Snow flurries are also expected for the downwind parts of the Great Lakes Friday, Van Dam said, adding that those flurries will be at the Northern Great Lakes Saturday."The Great Lakes are no longer ice covered, so here comes the Lake Effect snow again," the National Weather Service said. 876

Weeks shy of his 95th birthday, former President Jimmy Carter said Tuesday he doesn't believe he could have managed the most powerful office in the world at 80 years old.Carter, who earlier this year became the longest-lived chief executive in American history, didn't tie his comments to any of his fellow Democrats running for president, but two leading 2020 candidates, Joe Biden and Bernie Sanders, would turn 80 during their terms if elected.Biden is 76. Sanders is 78."I hope there's an age limit," Carter said with a laugh as he answered audience questions during his annual report at the Carter Center in Atlanta. "If I were just 80 years old, if I was 15 years younger, I don't believe I could undertake the duties I experienced when I was president."Carter's observation came in response to a jovial inquiry about whether he had considered running in 2020 since he's still constitutionally allowed another term. The 39th president left office in 1981 at the age of 56 after losing his reelection bid to Ronald Reagan, who served two terms and left office as the oldest sitting president in history, at 77.Carter, who turns 95 on Oct. 1, said the Oval Office requires a president "to be very flexible with your mind," particularly on foreign affairs.Carter also commented on the Israeli election, lamenting that returning hard-line Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to power could "end the peace process" altogether. Exit polls show that Netanyahu's party fell short of securing a parliamentary majority, potentially threatening his position. 1563
