Hundreds of flights were canceled and 14 million people were under a blizzard warning Sunday as a storm brought snow, wind and rain to large stretches of the Midwest.Kansas Gov. In a state that has had instances of young black men being shot by police while handling a BB gun, one officer in Ohio was thankful he did not pull the trigger on an 11-year-old he spotted carrying a BB gun. According to the Columbus Division of Police, Officer Peter Casuccio was dispatched to a scene on Saturday to a gun run. When he arrived, Casuccio found an 11-year-old carrying a BB gun as he was walking with a 13-year-old companion. At the scene, Casuccio expressed his frustration that he nearly shot the unidentified 11-year-old. The exchange was captured on Casuccio's police-issued body camera. "This is getting kids killed all over the country," Casuccio said.Casuccio explained to the boy that police got a call of a boy matching the 11-year-old's description holding a gun. "I didn't show anybody it,' I was just holding it like this," the boy said."You can't do that," the officer responded. "That thing looks real.""Do you think I want to shoot an 11-year-old? Do you think I want to shoot a 13-year-old? Do I honestly look like the kind of dude who wants to shoot anybody?" Casuccio said. "But do I look like the type of dude who would shoot somebody?"The boys respond, "Yes, sir." Casuccio then explains the incident to the 11-year-old's mother. "I pulled up and I’m not gonna lie, I drew down on them. He freaks out and he starts to pull the gun out of his waistband," the officer told the mother. "He could have shot you for that, you know that?” the mother could be heard saying. "He dropped it real fast, and I didn't know it was a BB gun until hit the sidewalk," Casuccio said.In recent years, Ohio has had several notable instances of police shooting young black men carrying BB guns as officers believed the weapons were real. Some of those incidents have led to protests in those respective communities. On Aug. 5, 2014, 22-year-old John Crawford III was fatally wounded after he was seen inside a Walmart in Beavercreek, Ohio carrying a BB gun. Officers Sean Williams and David Darkow were not criminally charged in connection to Crawford's death. Three months later in Cleveland, 12-year-old Tamir Rice was seen in a park "pointing a pistol" at people in the park. In the call to police, the witness did state that the weapon was "probably fake." Moments later, Officer Timothy Loehmann fatally wounded Rice. Loehmann was not criminally charged in Rice's death, but was later fired in 2017 after Cleveland Police discovered that he had lied on his job application. The City of Cleveland paid the Rice family a million settlement. In 2016 in Columbus, the same department Casuccio works for, Tyre King, 13, was shot and killed in the back by Officer Bryan Mason after police said King brandished an air gun. Mason was reportedly investigating a robbery at the time of the incident. A grand jury declined to charge Mason criminally for the shooting. There is a pending lawsuit by King's family against the City of Columbus.  3153

According to the director, the film is meant to spark discussion about how social media pressures girls as they come of age.Tthe film faced controversy when Netflix released a promotional photo that featured young girls in provocative dance poses in August. Netflix quickly removed the artwork and apologized, but the poster sparked an online movement to #CancelNetflix. The film debuted on Netflix last week, further fanning the flames of the controversy.According to The New York Times, the trend was pushed with the help of supporters of the QAnon conspiracy theory — a baseless conspiracy that claims President Donald Trump is fighting the "deep state" and a secret powerful cabal of pedophiles and cannibals. In the letter to Attorney General Bill Barr, Cruz wrote that the film "routinely fetishizes and sexualizes" pre-adolescent girls."These scenes in and of themselves are harmful. And it is likely that the filming of this movie created even more explicit and abusive scenes, and that pedophiles across the world in the future will manipulate and imitate this film in abusive ways," Cruz wrote."'Cuties' is a social commentary against the sexualization of young children," a Netflix spokesperson said in a statement to Variety. Dealers are offering more incentives than ever before to get drivers back on the road, and because of the coronavirus, you can stay home and find a good deal.“It’s the way the world is going now,” said recent car buyer, Stephanie Given. “Everything’s online.”Given is an ICU nurse working on the frontline of the pandemic, and in the midst of the health crisis, badly needed a new car.“We needed that second vehicle, the more reliable vehicle that we knew would be reliable in this time,” said Given.Her nearly 15-year-old ride was giving out, but, walking in to a dealership made Given anxious. “I have been under a little stress in my work life and personal life, and I was kind of dreading the stress of buying a car,” she said.So, she started her search online. “I found the car online through the Carmax app, and I was kind of let down when I saw the car was in Las Vegas, and it was just a couple seconds and they said, ‘We can ship it to you,’ and I said, ‘What? That’s amazing!’” said Given. Not only did she find the car she was looking for online, she did all the paperwork at home. “I kind of had a hybrid experience. I did my part online and then came to the dealership to pick up and take possession of the car,” she said.Given’s experience is now becoming the norm. If you thought the presidential candidates had plenty of time to convince voters, think again. The swing state of North Carolina is set to start mailing out absentee ballots on Friday, September 4. That means voters will be able to return their ballots as early as next week. RECORD NUMBERS VOTING EARLYNorth Carolina is seeing a record number of absentee ballots because of the pandemic. In 2016. around 200,000 absentee ballots were counted. Already in 2020, the state has received around 600,000 requests. "It’s been kinda tough but we are trying to get through it," Kristen Scott, the elections director in Halifax, North Carolina, said. Scott only has a staff of three. In 2016, her staff received 200 absentee ballot requests. This year they have already received 2,000 and it's only early September. "I do go ahead and tell voters once you get your ballot, it's best to complete it and send it back in," Scott said. NORTH CAROLINA TEST CASEWhat happens next in North Carolina will be an example for other states around the country. Will voters return their ballot right away? Will they wait until the first debate? Additionally, will voters be able to follow all of the directions?For instance, in North Carolina, all absentee ballots must have a valid witness signature. During a pandemic will voters be able to find a witness? If it's not there, the ballot will be rejected. "In the primary, we saw about 15 percent of absentee ballots rejected," Allison Griggs with the Southern Coalition for Social Justice, said. Griggs fears the election could depend on whether voters follow directions or not. In North Carolina, election officials are allowed to contact voters if they find an error with their ballot prior to the polls closing. Griggs advises all Americans to be on the lookout for phone calls from election officials just in case.
