This is the first FDA-approved treatment for Zaire ebolavirus infection in adults and kids.Zaire ebolavirus is one of four Ebola virus species that can cause potentially deadly infections. It is transmitted through direct contact with blood, tissue or body fluids of an infected person or wild animal.The treatment, Inmazeb, is a mixture of three monoclonal antibodies and was created by Regeneron Pharmaceuticals. The three antibodies work together to bind to the glycoprotein on the surface of the Ebola virus and block it from entry into the body’s cells.Inmazeb was tested in the Democratic Republic of the Congo during an Ebola virus outbreak in 2018-2019 through a partnership between the local government and the National Institutes of Health.A vaccine for Ebola virus was approved by the FDA in December 2019.Regeneron is also the company behind an experimental antibody cocktail that was given to President Donald Trump following his diagnosis of COVID-19, and which he said “cured” him. Trump was also prescribed the antiviral drug remdesivir and the steroid dexamethasone at the time.Regeneron’s COVID-19 treatment is a mix of two powerful antibodies that are believed to boost the immune response to the coronavirus. The FDA's Vaccines and Related Biological Products Advisory Committee panel has endorsed a second COVID-19 vaccine in the United States.Now the FDA is expected to act quickly to authorize the Moderna vaccine for emergency use and keep it on schedule to be distributed to patients across the country as early next week.The panel voted 20 yeses and one abstain.WATCH RECAP:With the panel recommending EUA, the FDA as a whole would then need to file its own EUA approval. The Chicago Police Department is under fire after a video surfaced showing department officers helping the Norfolk Southern Police in an operation that used "bait trucks," container trucks filled with goods left to attract potential thieves.The Facebook video, shot last week by community activist Charles McKenzie, shows a white unmarked truck parked in the largely black Englewood neighborhood."The police parked a truck with boxes of Nike shoes in front of kids ... and when people hop in the truck the police hopping out on them," McKenzie wrote on Facebook.The truck was part of a surveillance operation, nicknamed "Operation Trailer Trap" by police, used to target individuals who had been breaking into freight containers at Norfolk Southern rail yards, Norfolk Southern told CNN. The rail company has its own police force.A man was arrested on August 2 as part of the sting and charged with burglary. The Cook County State's Attorney's Office said the charges against the suspect were dropped on Thursday.
