SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - The family who lost their home in the Willow Fire is hoping to track down their "angel" firefighter."I know we lost everything, but my dad is still here. We're just so grateful," said Gwendolyn Pavlick.Two days later, an emotional Pavlick shared details of her father's narrow escape from the flames. That Wednesday night, her mother was staying with her in Carlsbad. Her father Doug was fast asleep in his home on Wind River Road in Rancho San Diego, when the fire started. It raced up a hill within minutes. Doug woke up to a loud knock."By the time he got to the door, the kitchen was on fire. The fireman said, 'You have to go.' When he ran upstairs to get keys and wallet, the fire went through the windows of his bedroom," said Pavlick.Gwendolyn says her father has dealt with back and foot issues."My dad, who couldn’t run physically, somehow, at that moment, could," said Pavlick.Doug was able to drive away to safety. From a distance, he watched as his home of 33 years burned. Six other homes were damaged from the heat and smoke."It’s heart-wrenching because that house was in our lives so long, it feels like a family member," said Pavlick.On Thursday, Gwendolyn and her parents surveyed the damage, nearly everything lost, including thousands of family photos. Outside the home, they prayed. Gwen's mother told her they will rebuild."After seeing the house, the first thing she said was, 'God gave us this house. He’s going to give it to us again,'" said Pavlick.As for their biggest blessing - her father's safety - Gwendolyn is now trying to find the mystery firefighter who woke her father."I just want to tell him, 'Thank you so much for saving my dad's life.' I don’t know if he is real or an angel," said Pavlick.The home is insured. Pavlick says very little was salvageable. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- The man accused of killing his parents and sister in a Logan Heights house fire pleaded not guilty in court Tuesday. Wilber Romero, 26, is facing charges that include first-degree murder and arson in the October 13 blaze. The fire started around 4:30 a.m. on the 3100 block of Clay Street. 44-year-old Jose Romero died at the scene while his wife and daughter, Nicolasa Maya-Romero, 46, and Iris Romero, 21, died at the hospital in the days following the blaze.The family’s 23-year-old daughter remains hospitalized. A 16-year-old son, who was injured when he escaped out a window, was released following treatment. Wilber is being held on million bail and faces life in prison if convicted. Court documents show the fire wasn’t the first time he allegedly targeted his family. Wilber reportedly attacked his father with a brick and rocks and damaged his car in September of 2018.The incident prompted a police standoff that ended when police shot bean bags at Wilber and released a police dog, documents show.The documents go on to state Wilber was in a car accident when he was 6-years-old and that he has suffered from a learning disability since the crash.According to the documents, Wilber also struggled with drug addiction. 1461

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - The countdown has begun for St. Patrick's Day in San Diego. The Gaslamp District is heavily bedazzled with sparkly green decorations. Many people said they are ready to party.Niamh Thornton is a 24 year old Irish student, now living in San Diego. “Niamh is pronounced like “Christmas Eve,” but with an “N” like “Neev”… It’s Irish,” Thornton said.She has been working at the Field Irish Pub in the Gaslamp District since last June."It's called an Irish Mule… It's lovely,” she said, pointing at a popular drink at the pub.The Irish native was getting ready for a 10-hour shift at the Field Saturday. "It's going to be crazy, I'd say,” Thornton said. Crazy may be an understatement.Saturday, many blocks downtown will be closed from sunrise to sunset-- for the morning Shamrock Run, the daytime parade, and shamROCK, the evening concert. Plus, many will be staring at the television screens, screaming for their favorite Irish teams. “England vs. Ireland in the rugby,” she said. ”And six nations. That’s insane. So this place is going to be packed.”But some people just could not wait to pre-party. Many people we saw in Downtown were showcasing their green accessories and outfits. Father Son Holy Spirit," she said crossing herself, "and I dropped to my knees."Muno had a career in aviation, performing duties from flight attendant to loading the aircraft and working on flight plans. Just watching the video made her tear up, knowing his safe landing was a miracle."We're all blessed. If I had lost Ryan, but he saved so many people," she said wiping away a tear.Muno said Ryan's been an instructor for two years, pursuing his second dream after a concussion during a baseball game changed his trajectory."When he was a little baby he used to lay down in the first class cabin and just go to sleep," she said he found his love of flying from growing up traveling with her.After his emergency landing, she's not too keen on him jumping back into the cockpit.Last night she urged him to hang out with his friends, or his father, "because if I get you, I'm never going to let you go," she said choking back tears.She said Ryan is probably going to go back to work tomorrow. He is also waiting to hear back from United Airlines. She said he applied to be a pilot with them and hopes to find out if he got the job by next month. 1801
